Game Notes
Things get a little tougher for the Celtics as they host Dirk Nowitski and the Dallas Mavericks.  The Mavs sit in the 8th spot in the West with a 30-21 record.  The Mavs have won 4 in a row while the Celtics have won their last 3.

The Celtics 3 wins have come against teams below .500 and now they get a chance to test whether they really have improved to the point where they can beat a good team above .500.

Rondo was feeling better after missing the last game with general soreness but is still a game time decision for this game.  I've included him in the starting lineup but we may very well see Phil Pressey get the start again.  The Celtics will play again on Monday against the Bucks and so Rondo will more than likely sit out at least one of those games, even if he is feeling great.

Key Matchups
(http://basketball.realgm.com/images/nba/4.2/profiles/photos/2006/Bass_Brandon_BOS.jpg)vs(http://basketball.realgm.com/images/nba/4.2/profiles/photos/2006/Nowitzki_Dirk_dal_1314.jpg)
Brandon Bass vs Dirk Nowitski
Dirk Nowitski is getting older, but he doesn't seem to have lost much as he is averaging 21.9 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.  He has a size advantage over Brandon Bass and will be a tough matchup for him.

(http://basketball.realgm.com/images/nba/4.2/profiles/photos/2006/Sullinger_Jared_bos_1314.jpg)vs(http://basketball.realgm.com/images/nba/4.2/profiles/photos/2006/Dalembert_Samuel_dal_1314.jpg)
Jared Sullinger vs Samuel Dalembert
Can Sully have another big night after his monster night against the Kings?  Dalembert isn't as tough a matchup as Cousins but maybe it was the competition that made Sully better.

Honorable Mention
Gerald Wallace vs Monta Ellis
Ellis is having a strong year, averaging 19.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 5.8 assists.  He is listed as questionable with a hamstring injury and with Bradley's status also up in the air, who knows which shooting guards will actually play?

Keys to the Game
Rebound
- Rebounding is so crucial to getting a win. When the Celtics put out the effort to grab rebounds, more often than not, that effort extends to other areas of their game. . Rebounding is all in who wants it more and the Celtics have to be the team that wants it more.

Defense - Defense is always crucial to getting a win. Defense wins games is not just a cliche, it is the truth. The Celtics must play tough team defense especially against high scoring teams like the Mavs who average over 104 points per game.

Be Aggressive - The Celtics have to be aggressive in going to the basket and not settle for jumpers. They have to be aggressive on defense and in diving for loose balls. They have to be the team to set the pace.  Effort and aggressiveness got them a win over the Kings and they will need the same kind of effort and aggressive play in this one.

Focus - The Celtics have to keep their focus for all 48 minutes.  They can't afford a lapse like they have in many games where they turn the ball over and start missing their shots.  They can't afford to let up against good teams like the Mavs.

X-Factor
Who is Playing?
If Bradley and Rondo don't play again in this one, it will be tough to win.  On the other hand, the Mavs could be without Monta Ellis who is key for them.

I like our chances in this one.  C's seem to be playing together more as a team.  most important to keep improving on defense.

Excited for this one. I really like the team that Mark Cuban pieced together this year, he's always pretty good at fielding competitive teams.

Also this is a must lose game for the Celtics, gotta assert ourselves if we want to get back into the top of the lottery picture.

Avery is a trainwreck offensively. He can only make the shot if he is wide open. If he is contested, he bricks off the side of the backboard every time. Ainge will be crazy if he pays Avery more than 3 mil a year.

I don't mind Bradley shooting quite a bit. His usage is only 23% and he's shooting 16 shots per game. He's ahead of that this game but not in a out of control manner.

He's a pretty low turnover guy at the SG spot.

There is a whole thread of evidence against your statement.

That said I don't think we're going to be beating many good teams with our current level of play. Magic, Kings, 76ers aren't world beaters by any means.

Offensively he's changed his game and remains as good as ever with his improved passing and post game to go with his shooting. Less an individual offensive monster but team wise he's just used so well to build an elite offense by Carlise.

Learn what? He can't learn 7'3-7'4 wingspan

Though KO could possibly adjust his shooting technique and finish with a higher release to prevent getting his shot blocked/shoot over people

Not doing well enough getting the ball to Sullinger in the pick and pop and on the block. Can't relegate him to a garbage man.

He's the closest thing we have to an offensive option.

He averages 16 shots a game, right on average.

He's far from a black hole, moved the ball pretty well.

C's aren't getting those offensive boards that kept them in it in the first half. Dallas has tightened that up and now is lookiing to put the game away sadly.

Quote
“I think it’s more motor than speed,” Stevens said. “If you lined everybody up and ran them in a contest running up and down the court, I don’t know that he’d win, necessarily, against everybody in the NBA. But I think his desire to get there every time, his conditioning level’s excellent, and he’s been well-drilled prior to getting here with those things as well. You see that all the time. We talk about big guys with motors a lot. You don’t always talk about that with guards and wings. He’s got a high motor. He gets to his spots quickly.

Brad Stevens's quotes are always so spot on.

this game pretty much shows the celtics level. against good teams, teams that will be in the playoffs, they dont have much of a chance.

beating up p----poor teams such as sacramento is not an indicator of a good team. i dont want the celtics to be trapped in mediocrity, with no real hope of contending.

Just a little bit of shooting and we win this one. you can't win games by playing for one quarter. C's shooting percentage was 17% in the third quarter!!! missing easy layups and paint shots are becoming the norm.

Time to maybe sit Bradley and start Chris Johnson. this kid runs the floor so fast that half the time he's sitting in the corner all alone but no one sees him.  need to get him and Rondo in sync early and let him pour in some threes early which we really need.
