Game Notes
The Celtics host the Sacramento Kings for the first of 2 meetings this season.  They will meet again later this month when the Celtics go on a west coast trip.  The Kings are starting a 4 game road trip with this game.

Both teams come into this game looking for their third straight win.  Both teams are also 3-7 in their last 10 games.  The Celtics are 10-15 at home while the Kings are 6-16 on the road.

With their 2 consecutive wins, the Celtics have climbed to the 5th worst record, passing both Philly and Cleveland.  They are now closer to the playoffs than they are to the worst record in the East. They just 5 games out of the playoffs and 7.5 games in front of Milwaukee, who are at the bottom of the Eastern Conference.

Out West, with almost the same record as the Celtics, the Kings are just half a game ahead of Utah for the last place in the conference.  The Kings are 11.5 games out of the playoffs.

The shooting guard matchup is in question in this game.  Both Avery Bradley and Marcus Thornton are listed as questionable for this game.  Avery sat out the second half of Wednesday's game with a sore ankle.  If he can't play in this game, expect Gerald Wallace to get the call again.

Key Matchups

(http://i.cdn.turner.com/si/.e1d/img/4.0/global/basketball/nba/players/4149.jpg)vs(http://i.cdn.turner.com/si/.e1d/img/4.0/global/basketball/nba/players/4942.jpg)
Rajon Rondo vs Isaiah Thomas
Rajon Rondo has been getting better and better with each game in his return and hopefully that will continue in this one.  He will have a rare height advantage in this matchup.  Thomas is averaging 21.3 points and 6.9 assists.

(http://i.cdn.turner.com/si/.e1d/img/4.0/global/basketball/nba/players/5055.jpg)vs(http://i.cdn.turner.com/si/.e1d/img/4.0/global/basketball/nba/players/4720.jpg)
Jared Sullinger vs DeMarcus Cousins
This will be a tough matchup for Sully.  Cousins has a height advantage and has been playing very well, averaging 22.7 points and 11.6 rebounds.

Honorable Mention

Jeff Green vs Rudy Gay
Gay has been playing very well since his return from an ankle injury.  He is averaging 23.8 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.6 steals in his last 5 games.  Green is coming off a big game against the Sixers and it's hard to tell if he will show up for this game or not.

Keys to the Game

Limit Turnovers - The Celtics are 5th in the league in turnovers with 15.7 and they have to take better care of the ball.  Turnovers usually lead to an easy score at the other end for their opponents and so it's important to focus on their ball handling and passes so as not to give their opponents that advantage.

Rebound - The Celtics have to put out the extra effort to grab the rebounds on both ends of the court.  By doing so, they limit the second chance points for the Kings and also give themselves extra possessions.

Defense - The Celtics tend to allow way too many open looks and easy points.  They have to make playing defense as a team a priority.  Defense not only wins championship,  it wins games as well.

Play 48 Minutes - The Celtics still tend to have periods where they seem to lose their focus and turn the ball over and go through scoring droughts and defensive lapses.  They need to play for all 48 minutes and find a way to eliminate those lapses.

X-Factors
Focus and Momentum
Can Rondo continue to improve?
Will Avery Bradley play and if he does, will he be effective?
Can Jared Sullinger effectively cover DeMarcus Cousins?

Glad it's an easy coast game--the Kings can be really fun to watch, but their home games come at a serious cost to my sleep schedule.

This Kings team is actually pretty good. Got some good young talent. If it wasn't for injuries and being in the West, they'd be 4 seed in the East.

Lets make up some BOLD PREDICTIONS, now. Bayless for 20 points, 10 assists, Jeff Green for 20 rebounds and a signature block on Cousins, and Humphries to hit the game winner.

Sullinger vs Cousins is going to be a very interesting matchup. Cousins is a talented load, and a legit center. Can sullinger out think, and out hustle him on the boards, in the paint?

Rondo will get his first triple double this game. green will have 11 points with 4 boards. sully will have 13 points and 11 rebounds. kelly olynyk will play more than 20 minutes and bass will have a solid efficient game with 14 and 6.

Bad defense by Sully. Biting on that pump faked jump-shot and giving up a layup.

Make Cousins hit jumpers.

Their game is pretty much identical, with Cousins perhaps a bit more active off the ball, cutting.

DA is at the game tonight. This game just became all about Demarcus cousins trying out for the future of the celtics. That rumor awhile ago was a real tempting deal too.

I am just tuning in. How is cousins looking tonight?

Trade Fav and AB and Green......and Bass for him... :)......oh and Wallace too..... ;D

I haven't seen a lot of cousins, but in general i think he could be a major force, when he is on a competent team.

Skill set and Motor .....off chart .......he wants to win too much and blows up

He needs more mature mindset and know how control his temper ......a year with KG n he would be instant All Starr

Jeff Green.... the guy gives bi-polar disorder a basketball definition.

Ive never seen a player that can be so good one night and then so bad the next.
He is not a number one option.  The previous post wanted Cousins without giving up Rondo.

Rondo, Cousins, Sully, Green would be a good core to build around.

We have at least two too many 4s.  Getting them playing time Sully and KO need to develop and Hump and Bass deserve is pretty tough.

He basically is the type of player Sully is and hopefully what Sully grows into.  We need different skill sets.

Being 7 foot with those skills helps. Sullinger is barely 6-9. He might be shorter than jeff green.

I could dig a double down low threat in sully and cousins, like Memphis with Randolph and gasol.

Yeah, I would take that chemistry risk. Cousins appears to be a lot like Rasheed Wallace. Cousins is a talented hothead, but knows how to play the game and use his body.

Imagine if Wallace had the beefy body of a true center and didn't camp out at the 3 point line.

I think Cousins will actually improve ,  maybe late ,  he has nice moves and touch ......more control  and patience  , may come a he slows with age ......maybe his hot tempter will cool a tad too.......I like his game when he is thinking right

That's an interesting comparison w. Sheed. I can see certainly see that at times.  Yea, I agree about Green it's just altogether maddening to watch him on a night by night basis, so much talent that is only trumped by his remarkable inconsistency.

He would of gone in the top 5 back injury or not at 6'11 imo

Still going to be one heck of a player. Just a wide load underneath the basket. It shorters opposing players reach and wingspan by 2-3 inches

Nice pass by Wallace too. He is overpaid, but he can be quite a weapon.

Another nice pass on the break. Wallace is a beast as a point man in transition. That was awesome!

That says a lot about cousins. To quietly get 31 and 16 is really impressive. His defense on the otherhand, not so impressive. The guy needs to raise his arms a little more often.

Really wish we could have found a way to get him last season or the one b4.

He isn't even in his prime avg like 20+ and 11rbs. Imagine what he will be like in a year or 2 if he isn't still stuck with a sucky team b/c that hurts players. I know ppl love Howard but I would take Cousins over him.

Sully is worth 10 million per year right now. If he takes another leap forward next year, he will be worth the max.

He is putting up 13 and 8 in only 27 mpg. The next step would be to put up 20 and 10 or 18 and 11 in 36 mpg. That has to do with his weight and conditioning more than anything.

That and the fact that we have 3 other PFs besides him and 2 centers in Joel and Vitor. Our other 3 PFs deserve mins and Joel and Vitor would get mins if they were on another team. Also if Kelly didn't have those guys on the team he would be getting his minutes to develop too, like the minutes Gianis gets (no one talks about that when they compare the 2 picks).

just got back from the game.  awesome time.

Sully is the man!  his positioning on the boards was solid and it showed.
Bayless and Green had their moments as well.  KO had a decent first half on offense but made the little plays that don't show up in the box score in the second half.

Wallace looked tolerable tonight.  lots of hustle as usual.  really earned his nickname Crash tonight with that fall.  could hear it throughout the Garden when he hit.  (my wife fell asleep at the game and he hit the floor so hard it woke her up)  can't believe he didn't have to come out after that.

These officials were more than horrible.  both the fouls that should have been called involving Wallace and Olynyk were flagrant and in plain sight. fouls like that cannot go unseen by NBA standards!!!

Without a doubt a great game though.  Sully is a monster.
