Game Notes
The Celtics travel to Madison Square Garden to take on the Knicks for the Third of four meetings this season. The Celtics won the first two meetings, one in Boston and one in New York.  They will meet one more time on March 12.

The Knicks took the Atlantic Division crown last season but are currently in 3rd in the division behind the Raptors and the Nets.  They are 3 games ahead of Boston in the Atlantic division standings.

The Knicks are playing the 6th game of an 8 game home stand.  The Celtics are making a quick road trip in between 2 home games.  This is the first of back to back games for the Celtics with a game at home vs the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday.

The Celtics have lost their last two while the Knicks have won 2 in a row.  The Celtics are 2-8 in their last 10 games and are 6-17 on the road while the Knicks are 5-5 in their last 10 games and 9-15 at home.

The game notes show the same starting lineup as they used in the last game with Brandon Bass at  power forward and Jared Sullinger at center.  Stevens may stick with this one or change it up again.

Key Matchups
(http://basketball.realgm.com/images/nba/4.2/profiles/photos/2006/Green_Jeff_BOS.jpg)vs(http://basketball.realgm.com/images/nba/4.2/profiles/photos/2006/Anthony_Carmelo_nyk_11.jpg)
Jeff Green vs Carmelo Anthony
Carmelo is averaging 27.2 points and 9.0 rebounds per game and is a tough cover for any player.  He scored 62 points and 35 points in his last two games, both Knicks wins.  Jeff Green needs to make Carmelo work on the defensive end and he needs to stay with Melo on defense and make him work for every shot. Granted he won't be able to get under Melo's skin like KG used to, but he can defend and make him work.  We may also see Brandon Bass defending Melo as he has had success in the past against him.

Rajon Rondo vs Pablo Prigioni
Rondo has been improving with every game since his return.  His minutes are also increasing as he gets hit conditioning back.  Expect him to be more aggressive against Prigioni and to improve even more in this game.

Honorable Mention
Jared Sullinger vs Tyson Chandler
Sully has been struggling with a dislocated finger as well as a bone bruise and strained ligament in his hand.  He also gives up a few inches to Chandler.  This could be a tough matchup for the Celtics.  We may see more Kelly or Vitor on Chandler if Sully is unable to slow him down.

Keys to the Game

Defense - The Celtics need to especially defend the 3 point line as the Knicks shoot very well from beyond the arc. They have several very good 3 point shooters and the Celtics need to make sure they don't give up open looks from the outside.

Rebound - The Celtics need to rebound as a team in order to keep the Knicks from getting second chance points. Much of rebounding is effort and desire and when the Celtics show both on the boards, it usually transfers the rest of their game.

Run! - The Celtics need to run at every opportunity. They have young legs and energy on their side and they need to use it to their advantage. If they can beat the defense down the court, they will get some easy shots.

Take the Ball Inside
- The Celtics need to try to get the ball inside and not settle for outside shots all game, especially if their shots aren't falling. Taking the ball into the paint will usually either give them an easy shot or draw a foul.

Play for 48 Minutes - In almost every game, the Celtics either build a big lead or stay right with teams for much of the game but they inexplicably go away from what works for them and stop passing, stop hitting shots, stop going to the basket, and begin turning the ball over.  They must play hard for 48 minute and not let up.

X-Factors

On the Road and Focus
The Celtics are on the road and even though it's not a long trip, there will be a hostile crowd.  The Celtics must keep their focus throughout the game and not let the crowd or the referees to take them out of the game.  .

Really dislike the Knicks above and beyond all other NBA teams. Anyway BOLD PREDICTIONS: Sullinger to lead the game in Offensive Rebounds, Rondo for the triple double and Gerald Wallace to get into  Melo's head

I'm glad you've kept the fire burning.

Bold Predictions:
'Melo goes for 70-11-0-0 turnovers.

The Knicks lose by three. JR Smith airballs the last shot.

sigh...i hope stevens can get the team to play harder and give more effort.

My eyeballs have seen terrible defense since the west coast trip. No one guards the three ball and the Celtics can't figure out the pick and roll anymore. Putrid I say!

This is really hard to watch. I mean, our half court offense is pathetic.

And Green is killing me right now.

You can get some real nice role players with late first rounders. And there is the problem Danny Ainge has. The Celtics don't need role players. We've got 13 or 14 right now. We need some legit stars.

MAYBE first 3 years.....depending on how the rebuild goes. I expect it to take 4 to 5 years as far as having championship hopes realistically.

If Stevens got us into the first round of the playoffs, he should be fired.  The East is terrible so it's not like it's an accomplishment and we would be missing out on a major asset over pride.

Anyways, anybody watching Cavs vs NOP during the break?  I'm glad Steamer is still in the league, he can really fill the paint

doc already had a star in PP and DA bought him RA and KG. We might be able to trade for one star but we will have to develop the others I am afraid through the draft. we'll see soon enough. doc would maybe have 8 or 9 wins with this ballclub.

Green then goes for a lay up, get it stripped, then Melo fumbles it

one top pick alone isnt enough to turn this around.

Nope but it's a great start. A top pick, maybe package some of the other firsts and Green for an all star Danny esqe trade of some sort and we're well on our way to looking like a pro team again.

Thank you Danny for not running this team like the Bobcats who look like this every year

nope, that is correct. If and that is a BIG IF rondo can regain old form and maybe even improve his scoring and IF sully pans out we still need two ALL-stars to go with them plus solid role players who can contribute in certain roles.

chris johnson is amazing.

Danny needs to sign him to a 2 or 3 year deal nevermind for the rest of the year

He can nail the open three almost every time. That is a valuable skill for a team to use

On this team .....a d league er looks like MJ  to us........

sad but true

True.....this rebuilding is just beginning......the team that will put on Celtic Green one day to compete for the next banner may not contain  any member of this squad ......save Sully and this year still-born lottery pick ..........

We will possibly have several lottery picks

This is brutal right now......

But ... With a little luck and some slick wheeling and dealing by our fearless GM ......we ll see sum thing good starting to take hold early 2016 .

Do you REALLY doubt that Rondo will regain his old form??  You do realize that after 1.5 YEARS and 10 games, Derrick Rose was shooting 35.4% from the field??  Please be patient.  Rondo WILL be back.  It takes time to get your shot back after being out a year.  Rondo has had 6 less months to recover than Rose did.  It will take time, BUT I predict that not only will Rondo be back, but he will be EVEN BETTER.  I am SICK of all these negative Nancy's acting like Rondo is finished.  It makes me want to puke!!!

yep. i see us winning 25 games, which is exactly what most others thought to start the year. We will probably get worse before we get better. We may trade guys for more draft picks instead of immediate help.

Rondo couldn't be much worse over his first 6 games.  I thought he said he wouldn't return until he was 100%.  If this is him 100%, we should be concerned.

Well, unless Rondo is the rare player whose athleticism doesn't return after ACL surgery, I would be worried but he does appear quicker from the first game even if his numbers haven't improved correspondingly.  Regardless, because he's not a Chris Paul type who can both score and pass at an elite level and thus elevate a team of role players to a record well above their talent, he's going to need better shot makers than the ones currently surrounding him.

He also said he wouldn't return until he was 100% ready to return. If you think he's going to go back to his old self in 6 games you're either kidding yourself or you're just setting him up to fail in your head.

Lets talk about being concerned if he's playing like this after all star break into next season. He almost put up a triple double in his 5th game back, it's not as bad as you're playing it out to be...

Yeah ...it's worrisome. ......and deflating to watch ....makes you wonder if he really will stick around.

But Kobe and Rose didn't look too swift either after their long layoffs

I don't think he is ready to led a contender this year ......so a trade won't really help many teams overcome the Heat  by getting Rondo this year .

If Danny can snag another top 10 pick for Rondo  and take one of the top  guards draft  ON DRAFT night .....maybe he should ,  just clear the board .  Plus we are probably getting top 12 picks for another 1-2 years or more anyway .....so a another nice guard  or 3 prospects might be had .

At the moment Rondo is not looking like MAX contract money .....LOL

This is just getting ugly and old. what is the sense of bickering back and forth about what we're not doing right when most of the Celtics problems have been getting the ball through the hole.  it's downright embarrassing that this team has become so lax that they have forgotten how to shoot!!!

Brad Stevens is running out of two things, excuses and patience. Brad might be Mr. calm and collected but I don't see it going much further before he blows his lid.
