Game Notes

It doesn't get any easier for the Celtics as they return home from their tough road trip to face the Houston Rockets.  The Celtics lost 85-109 to the Rockets on the road back in November.

The Rockets are 9-9 on the road and 6-4 in their last 10 games while the Celtics are 8-10 at home and 1-9 in their last 10.  The Celtics have lost their last 8 games and desperately need a win in this game to end the skid.  The Rockets are looking for their second straight win.

The Celtics kept the games close against both the Blazers and the Warriors and had a chance to win both games.  They have to find a way to solve their offensive droughts if they want to win this one.

Key Matchups
(http://i.cdn.turner.com/si/.e1d/img/4.0/global/basketball/nba/players/4750.jpg) vs (http://i.cdn.turner.com/si/.e1d/img/4.0/global/basketball/nba/players/4563.jpg)
Harden is always a threat to score and so Avery will need to be at his defensive best to keep him from going off. He also needs to stay out of foul trouble as Harden has a penchant for flopping.

(http://i.cdn.turner.com/si/.e1d/img/4.0/global/basketball/nba/players/3831.jpg) vs (http://i.cdn.turner.com/si/.e1d/img/4.0/global/basketball/nba/players/3818.jpg)
Howard is very tough if allowed to get into his comfort zones.  Humphries has been playing good defense, but Howard will be a challenge.  We may see some Vitor if Humphries can't slow Howard down.

Keys to the Game
Defense - The Rockets have the #3 ranked offense in the league, scoring 105.3 points per game. The Celtics defense was weak against the Blazers, allowing them to score 112 points. It's important for them to play tough defense as it will be very difficult to outscore the Rockets high powered offense if they don't.

Rebound - The Rockets are 7th in the league in rebounding with 45.2 per game.  Much of rebounding is effort and energy and the Celtics must show both and crash the boards to keep the Rockets from getting easy points off rebounds.

Effort and Energy - The Celtics simply don't have the talent to beat teams on talent alone. They must win with energy and effort and grit.  They have to be the team that wants it more and that works harder for the win.

Be Aggressive - Going along with the effort and energy, the Celtics have to be the more aggressive team.  The have to be more aggressive in going after rebounds and loose balls.  They have to be aggressive on defense and in going to the basket.  And they have to keep up that aggressiveness the entire game.

X-Factors
Home and Fatigue

The Celtics are back home again and should get a boost from finally playing in front of the home crowd again.  They are going to have to overcome the fatigue of playing in 5 games in 7 nights on the road.

I thought Rondo would come back tonight, seems like it's not happening.

By the way, I hated the way the Cs lost in Houston, don't care for the record, I want a hard fought win against the Rockets.

Go Celtics!

No Rondo tonight but Bass is out of the starting line up and Sully is back in it.

Chris Forsberg ‏@ESPNForsberg 9m

C's going with Humphries-Sullinger frontcourt (Bass to bench) vs. Rockets.

Bah, this was the game I predicted for Rondo's return.

Oh well, I'm not going to be able to watch most of the game anyway, so I guess that's ok--don't want to miss his debut, no matter how underwhelming it might be.

Hope AB shuts down Harden.

Bass is like a cockroach. Can't get him out of the starting lineup. Every time they put him on the bench, someone gets hurt, and he is back out there.

Celtics: 3 free throws

I'm quite sure they've been fouled while going to the basket.

KO looks scared. They should put him on the block vs Casspi. Worst case is Sully with a backside rebound.

i do not know what to make of KO anymore. Not liking what I am seeing at times.

I still like his skill level and BBIQ a lot but the tentativeness has got to go.  Time to start getting more comfortable out there.

I just keep reminding myself that according to AB he was so scared his rookie year that he didn't want to come in at times.  And he looked it too that year.  So it's not too late to get over it.  But then AB was 19 and on a contending team, too.

I understand KO being nervous, but to AB's defense he was playing on a team that was contending with future HOF's of Ray Allen, KG, and PP. Making a mistake would likely him benched and I could completely understand being terrified of making a mistake.

Look on the bright side: NY is beating the Suns (who are good), Toronto is winning, one of Chicago or Washington will win tonight and Dante Exum declared for the draft today.  This time next year, instead of Crawford and Bradley playing PG and SG, we could have Rondo and the 6'6" Exum.

I'd like to see everyone when Rondo gets back.  won't have to worry about Rondo jacking up a bunch of questionable shots and he'll actually get the ball to the person in the best position to score.

brooks has been good on offense. but he has played poor defense. his poor decision let harden open for a three and he has trouble even man on man.

but, yes, he looked better than before. stevens is willing to give players a good chance to succeed during crunch time. he is a good coach for this team this year.

Only two teams with more losses than us now.

Orlando - 27 losses
Milwaukee - 30 losses.

Tied with Utah with 26 losses.

Least favorite player on this team has got to be Wallace... he's just flat out awful and his contracts a joke. Makes Joe Johnson look like a bargain for the talent.

I never thought VF would pan out, but I'm all for getting rid of KO while he still has "upside"

if Wallace is here after the trade deadline he should get buried on the bench.

the only defense for playing him at this point would be to showcase him. and he's doing absolutely nothing to interest other teams.

maybe Faverani but not KO. KO was great tonight. He didn't score but did everything else great. His defense was alot more intense than usual. At one play he ran the full court to try to block a 3 pt shot by Casspi. Thats the kind of play that can win you championships

I hope sooner or later Stevens changes up the lineup. The one now is not getting the job done.

KO, Bass, Brooks, Bradley, JB

Really didn't mind the small lineup. Brooks has 7'0 wingspan to hold his own at sf

I think the problem with KO is his confidence, he'll pan out I like what I'm seeing from him. he's doing the little things except for scoring that's better than doing nothing at all

VF showed flashes early this season, he can have the Wilcox role when RR comes back... running big man compliments well with Rondo

this was a pretty bad game for olynyk but I still don't see how he's a guy we just give up on? the game is too fast for him right now. plenty of good players in their rookie yr have looked like this.

we're not going to see his peak till he gains weight and experience.

Wallace is 3rd in FG% out of all SF's in the NBA

He makes a convincing argument but Wallace has been unproductive all year at least Crawford had a stretch for his minimal contract. On a side note, I'm playing 2k and am using Green in create a legend mode, making him into the franchise player he could be if he was controlled by my xbox controller and not his passive head hah

Marshon Brooks is making a case for getting minutes over Wallace.

I'm hoping Brad actually DOES play Marshon over G-Wall.

It's not unlikely. He's already benched Bass. And Marshon is looking pretty sharp.

I love what Brad's been doing.

Praise Stevens.

Bradley has to attempt 23 shots and only score 24 points?  With 11 made field goals.  11 made field goals for LeBron= 40 points.

Not efficient.

23 shots 0 ftas and 1 TO for 24 points.

Not inefficient by any means at all. Best on our team other than Bayless.

FTAs are used up possessions as well as are TOs.

Lets just say we miss the Avery Bradley back door cut. Probably more efficient that the mid range and generated ftas. Number crunchers please test my hypothesis.

December and January AB has taken around 14 shots per and scored 17pts per. I don't know about you guys but I think I'll give him a break for tonight. Not only that but it's not like anyone else (besides Bay who got hot in the 4th) was doing anything. Not only did he score 24pts, 5rbs, 3ast he put the clamps on Harden who had only 16pts (6-18), 7rbs, 3ast!

I mean LeBron is a monster who over the same time span took around 17 shots per and scored 27pts (about 7fts a game too while AB takes 2).

I would (should) be p---ed at Bradley for jacking up 24 shots and being very inefficient but then I realize he plays on a team that doesn't have a legitimate go to scorer so he's basically forced to shoot/try and score. I think in a perfect world, he's a very, very solid role player. Defends well and with his development this year, can shoot the ball from distance. Those 2 things can keep him in the league for a long time. Unfortunately, the C's are constructed in a way which forced him to be more of a go-to guy than a complimentary piece.

Here's the thing, 1 PPP isn't "very inefficient".

BTW it appears the final line is 21 shots and 0 FTAs to get  24 points and 1 turnover. That's a TS% of .571 and ORTG of 116.

Bradley and Bayless were the only players keeping us in the game.

Yeah,     Sad deal here .......no center .....is not working.
