Game Notes
The Wizards visit the Garden for the first of 4 meetings this season.  The Celtics swept the series last season 3-0.  The Wizards are 5-5 in their last 10 and 5-8 on the road while the Celtics are 6-4 in their last 10 games and 7-7 at home.

The Wizards have won their last 2 games, both on the road and are looking for their 3rd straight road win for the first time since the 2011-12 season.  The Celtics are looking to get back on track after losing a close one to Detroit.  Both teams last played on Wednesday and should come into this game rested.

The Celtics have dominated the Wizards in recent years, winning seven straight meetings overall and nine of 10 at home.  The Wizards are getting healthy and are playing well.  The Celtics are finally past the trade rumors, for now anyway, and their concentration can be on the game at hand.

The Celtics are in the 4th spot in the East by virtue of leading the woeful Atlantic Division.  The Wizards are in the 7th spot.

Key Matchups

(http://www.nba.com/media/playerfile/jordan_crawford.jpg) vs (http://www.nba.com/media/playerfile/john_wall.jpg)
Jordan Crawford vs John Wall
Wall is playing very well, averaging 19.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 9.1 assists.  Crawford will need to slow him down and also make him work on the defensive end. I expect Crawford to be extra motivated to beat his former team.

(http://www.nba.com/media/playerfile/avery_bradley.jpg) vs (http://www.nba.com/media/playerfile/bradley_beal.jpg)
Avery Bradley vs Bradley Beal
Avery will have his hands full with Beal, who is averaging 20.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists.

Keys to the Game
Play 48 Minutes - The Celtics have been getting off to fast starts and have closed strong but have let up in the middle.  They need to play hard for 48 minutes and avoid the slumps.

Defense - The Celtics need to especially defend the 3 point line.  Washington is one of the better 3-point shooting teams in the NBA, making 39.3 percent of its attempts.  But they can't ignore the paint either as Gortat, and Nene can go strong to the basket as can Wall.

Take Care of the Ball - The Celtics committed 18 turnovers in their last game which led to 30 points for the Pistons.  They seem to go through periods when they lose their focus and commit multiple turnovers.  They need to stay focused and avoid those lapses.

Move the Ball
- The Celtics play their best when they move the ball and find the open man.  They play their worst when they over dribble and each player tries to do too much. They need to keep the ball moving, including getting up the floor quickly before the defense gets set.

Wizards starting lineup is very impressive when Nene is in there.

They should be better than 11-13 on the season.

Sully will bully Nene, and score 26 and 12

Green gets 23 and a couple monster dunks

I'm glad Stevens is rewarding Hump for his hard play.

Also, I'm not sure Bradley has then skills to make the pass on the 2 on1 fast break. And just think, coaches keep trying him at pg.

They would rather pay Asik 22mil or whatever to not contribute at all than Bass and Lee for three years that would give them depth and get a 1st round pick?  I don't get it.

That would technically be Atlanta's pick. Which might not be worth much. They are 15-12 right now.

I think they want to develop KO and Sully so they are playing and showcase Humphries and Bass so they are playing.  They have Vitor locked in and there will be more openings next year for him.

Is Sully an all-star?

SFs -- LeBron, Melo, George
PFs -- David West, Paul Millsap, Greg Monroe, Nene
C   -- Horford, Bosh, Hibbert, Noah (Drummond?)

They are doing frontcourts now instead of forwards + centers so Sully needs to get one of those spots. Those 3 SFs should all be locks. I think 3 of the 4 Cs get a spot (Hibbert and Horford should be locks). So that is 5-6 of the 7-8 spots taken up.

That probably leaves two PFs. I think David West should get in because Indiana is having such a great season. The other three seem fairly similar stat-wise and team record wise. Doesn't appear much separation there. Buyers choice I guess.

I think Sully has got a fair shot at one of those final ASG spots.

This is what young teams do -- they fall apart late in games.

Games like this are what will eventually secure this team a lottery spot.

Picking 9th or 10th along with a feel-good year and nice development from Sullinger, Bradley, etc.

That's what I'm hoping for from this season at this point.

When this team loses games its for one of 4 reasons

1. They are overmatched against one of the better teams in the league

2. The bench gave the team absolutely nothing

3. AA starter or two shot them out of the game by missing 10 or more shots

4. Reasons 2 and 3 combined

If they lose this game its for reason number 4

This is what young teams do -- they fall apart late in games.

Games like this are what will eventually secure this team a lottery spot.

Picking 9th or 10th along with a feel-good year and nice development from Sullinger, Bradley, etc.

That's what I'm hoping for from this season at this point.

Agreed.  this team has beaten one decent team all year, at the buzzer.  We need to be realistic.

This games simple... if Green hadn't forgotten how to shoot from the field or the line, we'd easily have won

Just hold on until Rondo gets back...

And maybe the trade deadline.

Our best player hasn't played yet and if we don't make the playoffs, who cares this year anyway?  Its all good. ;D

Except, how could Boston end up picking 9th or 10th? They're gonna end up making the playoffs in this crappy conference.

I really like this Washington team.

If they improve their bench, I think they could be a 47-50 win type team.

We're not that good, people should calm down.

This team will look better some times, crappy the other ones. Today is one of those days.

Go Celtics!

Agreed. Having Nene finally healthy is enormous for them.

For the Celtics, this is what happens when you're drastically undersized. They can get off to hot starts but eventually they just get worn down with size. Nene, Gortat, and Seraphin combined for 37 points and 26 rebounds.

I mean you'll have teams like Miami and Indiana obviously making the playoffs, wouldn't surprise me if the Hawks, Wizards, Pistons, Raptors, maybe Nets even with the Lopez injury, and the Bobcats all finish ahead of the Cs. Sadly there is a chance we still make the playoffs though because our conference is that bad...

We;ve not been that good all year.  Lots of heart + Crappy conference= delusions of grandeur.  This team is fun and exciting to watch no doubt, but they are what they are...a rag tag band of misfits that are about two stars away from being contenders.

I still think the Raptors or Knicks will end up sneaking in ahead of them, and the Celtics will have the 9th or 10th best record in the East.

That'll be contingent on Danny making some moves to dump vets.  It'll also depend on what moves other teams make.

In any case, I could see the Celtics making the playoffs given the state of the division and the conference.  I just hope it doesn't happen.  Making the playoffs with this team would be a minor disaster considering the goals of the season and where this team is at.

Yeah.  The bench has been a huge issue for them for a while now, though.

I wonder if Danny will consider the rumored Jeff Green for Asik deal?  I still wouldn't do it but if a semi comparable SF that gets after it every night, comes along, I'd pull the trigger.

I really try to like Jeff Green. I really do. But I just can't. He's got the size. He's got the athleticism. Unfortunately, he doesn't have "it." He's infuriating to watch on a night to night basis as a fan.

Great games for Bradley and sully.

Good news is that we are right on the verge of the lottery.  Bad news is that the Atlantic has been a disaster...  Someone needs to start winning games so we don't accidentally make the playoffs with 30 wins.
