Game Notes
The Celtics travel to Madison Square Garden to take on the Knicks for the first of four meetings this season.  The Knicks took the Atlantic Division crown last season but are currently in 4th in the division just half a game ahead of the last place Nets.  It was also the Knicks who eliminated the Celtics from the first round of the playoffs last season.

Both teams come into this game on a two game win streak.  The Celtics are 5-5 in their last 10 games while the Knicks are 2-8 in their last 10.  The Celtics are 4-7 on the road and the Knicks are 2-7 at home.  The Knicks consecutive wins came after nine straight losses.  The Celtics have won 5 of their last 7 games after a 6 game losing streak.

While the rivalry will have lost a bit without KG and Paul Pierce, they are still the Celtics rivals for the division.  The Celtics also need to take the Knicks seriously in spite of their 5-13 record as they still have stars on the team and are coming off their two best games of the season.

Key Matchups

(http://basketball.realgm.com/images/nba/4.2/profiles/photos/2006/Green_Jeff_BOS.jpg) vs (http://basketball.realgm.com/images/nba/4.2/profiles/photos/2006/Anthony_Carmelo_nyk_11.jpg)
Jeff Green vs Carmelo Anthony
Carmelo is averaging 25.6 points and 9.9 rebounds per game and is a tough cover for any player.  Jeff Green needs to make Carmelo work on the defensive end and he needs to stay with Melo on defense and make him work for every shot.  Granted he won't be able to get under Melo's skin like KG used to, but he can defend and make him work.

(http://www.nba.com/media/playerfile/jared_sullinger.jpg) vs (http://www.nba.com/media/playerfile/andrea_bargnani.jpg)
Jared Sullinger vs Andrea Bargnani
Bargnani is averaging 15.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game and needs to be defended all the way out to the 3 point line.   Bargnani has a height advantage over Sully, but Sully has a strength advantage.  This one will be interesting to watch.

Keys to the Game
Defense - The Celtics need to especially defend the 3 point line as the Knicks have shot 33-61 in their last 2 games.  They have several very good shooters from beyond the arc and the Celtics need to make sure they don't give up open looks from the outside.

Rebound - The Celtics need to rebound as a team in order to keep the Knicks from getting second chance points.  Much of rebounding is effort and desire and when the Celtics show both on the boards, it usually transfers the rest of their game.

Run!
- The Celtics need to run at every opportunity.  They have young legs and energy on their side and they need to use it to their advantage.   If they can beat the defense down the court, they will get some easy shots.

Take the Ball Inside
- The Celtics need to try to get the ball inside and not settle for outside shots all game, especially if their shots aren't falling.  Taking the ball into the paint will usually either give them an easy shot or draw a foul.

Don't Over Dribble
- The Celtics are at their best when they are moving the ball and not just dribbling out the clock.  They need to share the ball and move it without a lot of dribbling.

X-Factors

On the Road and 3-Pointers
The Celtics are on the road and even though it's not a long trip, there will be a hostile crowd.  The Celtics can't let the crowd bother them.   The Knicks can kill you with 3 pointers if they are allowed to get going and gain confidence in them.  The Celtics must stop they beyond the arc.

BOLD PREDICTIONS

Jeff Green 32 points 3 blocks
Brandon Bass 13 points 8 rebounds
Jared Sullinger 21 points 17 rebounds 4 assists
Jordan Crawford 17 points 9 assists
Avery Bradley 20 points 3 steals

Final Score Celtics 120 Knicks 98

I predict a blowout.

The C's must play all 12 quarters of these next three games against the Knicks, Nets and Clippers and if they do I'm pretty sure you will find the "tanker boys" in the rafters looking for a window to jump out of!!!

You can tell Bass has extremely improved his low post game. In years past, Melo and Lebron would play the 4 but Bass could not make them pay for it by working the post. It's wonderful to see.

Jeff Green 32 points 3 blocks
Brandon Bass 13 points 8 rebounds
Jared Sullinger 21 points 17 rebounds 4 assists
Jordan Crawford 17 points 9 assists
Avery Bradley 20 points 3 steals

Final Score Celtics 120 Knicks 98

I predict a blowout.

25 a game? well then he will not just be able to be a backup for rajon then because rajon will not give him that many minutes at PG. guess he will have to be a combo.

Yeah, at the beginning of the season I wanted him as filler in a trade. Then when he got hot and was playing well I wanted him to be a nice icing on the top of a trade to push it over the edge. Now Im not sure I want to see him leave. As long as he can do the same things coming off the bench it would be really hard to let him go at this point.

DA really fell into this one. Either Doc didn't know how to coach him or Stevens really new how to get everything out of this guy and give him the confidence to do it.

I'm getting a ton of flak here but I'd rather trade Bradley. Much more trade-able and probably have better value.

Will start Lee for defense and shooting, then bring J-Craw off the bench.

The more I think about it, the more I want Rudy Gay in this lineup. I think Stevens can turn him into an All Star.

Humphries and Wallace for Gay.

Im not sure i want any of these guys traded now.  They've developed nice chemistry.  At the least we have a formidable bench unit.  I do like the trade idea tossed around recently for LEE/Bogan for Ferdette/Salmons

lee, hump, wallace, etc will be dumped or traded in due time. prolly bass also.

we still need a star from SOME draft present or future and a FA or trade for an all star. then we will be in bidness son!

Twolves are 9-11. I'd give up all the draft picks for Love.

Knicks blew out two teams in a row. They were looking nice and hot and ready for the C's at home.

Then they just got totally rekt.  ;)

In all seriousness, I love the development of the team. And wow, Jordan Crawford is legit.

i like how stevens is having them set up and pass to guys in the paint for easy layups and layins. after spacing the floor or after running and gunning. what a breath of fresh air.

Lol. He's an undrafted rookie who gives the Celtics a few OK backup minutes a game. I think he's doing pretty well at this point in his career. But you are right, his offense is not very good right now. He seems to have hit the undrafted rookie wall.

we can get a high pick other ways. trades and give up future picks. All we need is one star draftee. The other star can come from a trade or........gulp........................FREE AGENCY! even though bawstahn is not known for attracting FA's in BASKETBALL.

These are my thoughts exactly. I wanted them to draft in the top five, but the chemistry they are playing with right now is sky high. I'm starting to think they are one star player away from being true contenders. I can't say i saw that coming.

Perhaps in Summer League, yes -- but his performance during the regular season has been anything but ok, even for a backup.

Rondo can't come back soon enough -- that'll really settle our guard rotation.

nah. still two stars away even once rondo returns. alot of good solid young players though in green, bradley and sully. i hope at least one of fav or KO pans out to be a great role player.

i'm thinking our pick this year will either be late in the lottery or...gulp...not even a lottery pick. but [dang]...given how we're playing, given stevens' coaching, and given that we're doing this w/o Rondo and w/ Sully playing himself back into shape, i can't be mad. i think our awesome draft picks are coming in future years from the nets, who might become one of the worst teams in the league starting next season.

That was an awesome game.  The Knicks had won a couple blowouts recently and I thought it might be competitive.  It wasn't even close.  The refs tried to get the Knicks back in the game during the 2nd quarter, but Boston kept dominating.  We have a really likeable bunch.

Also, Tommy called me an idiot for wanting a high draft pick... so I'm letting it go.  I wanna see these kiddies continue to shock the world.

I think if we stay healthy and keep improving, and manage to snag the 4th or 3rd seed, we have a shot at reaching the ECF.

You never know.

What were your expectations of an undrafted rookie making league minimum?

I still claim he will have a long NBA career. It maybe as a backup, but still long. He does a lot of things above average, he just can't shoot right now. He can improve that. Most NBA player as do.

The kid has helped us win a couple games. He can't shoot and no one will deny that but when people say he has been bad they are not watching. I think he has like a 3-1 assist to turnover. He takes good care of the ball and many times he has made the offense go when we were looking ragged! He also defends really well given the height limitation!

Here I am again, a day late and a dollar short!!!

No one expected this.  the die hards are in their glory and the tankers are seeking therapy and during all of this a very likeable gang in green has made us all very happy campers.
Brad Stevens miracle worker??? The players seem to believe in whatever he's preaching.  every game you could see this team getting better with what many of you thought was an inferior cast of characters.
I know it's early but I'm really enjoying the way Stevens has found who plays the best with who and the rotations are clicking.
