Jordan Crawford vs Damian Lillard
Lillard, last year's Rookie of the Year, is averaging 19.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.8 assists.  He is athletic and is tough to defend.  Crawford has been playing well for the Celtics, but he will have his work cut out for him against Lillard.

Brandon Bass vs LaMarcus Aldridge
Aldridge is averaging 21.3 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.  The Celtics will need to try to keep him out of the paint, where he is capable of doing a lot of damage.

Honorable Mention
Kelly Olynyk vs Robin Lopez
The battle of the hair. Kelly is still finding his place in the league but has all the tools to be very good on any given night.
Game Notes
The Portland Trailblazers make their only visit to the TD Garden this year as the Celtics try to rebound from Wednesday's loss to the Bobcats.  The Blazers are a tough matchup.  They have young and athletic players and they are playing very well together with a 6-2 record.

The Celtics lead the series between these two teams 62-40 all time and 35-16 in Boston.  The Celtics have won 9 straight games against the Trailblazers in Boston. The Celtics had won 6 straight overall before losing in Portland in February of last year.

Portland is on a 4 game win streak and looking to win their 5th straight game.  The Celtics had their 4 game win streak stopped by Charlotte on Wednesday and are looking to get back on track with a win in this game.

Jared Sullinger missed the last game with a bone bruise on his knee.  He is still listed as day to day but is expected to play in this game.   His presence in the paint was sorely missed against the Bobcats and he will be needed in this game against Portland's big front line.

Keys to the Game
Energy- The Celtics appeared to be rather lethargic in their game against the Bobcats.  They were outworked, and in order to win games, they must work harder than the other team.  They need to come out with energy and keep that energy up throughout the game.

Run!- The Celtics won 4 games in a row by running from start to finish.  They can get easier shots by getting up the court before the defenses set up.  They can't lapse into walking the ball up the court.  They have to run, run, and run some more.

Get into the Paint- Good things happen when the Celtics get into the paint and go to the basket.  In their 4 game win streak, they averaged 49.5 points in the paint but in the loss to the Bobcats, they only had 38 points in the paint.  They must take the ball to the hoop and not settle for jumpers, especially if they aren't falling.

Rebound
- The Celtics must crash the boards to give themselves a chance to win.  The Blazers are 9th in rebounding with 44.6 rebounds per game.  The Celtics rank 25th, pulling down 40.7 rebounds per game.

X-Factors
Desire and Home Crowd
The Celtics have to want this game more and have to fight for it.  They will get a boost from the home crowd,  but they have to put out the effort and energy to get the win.

Rooting for us to lose from here on.  I've decided to stick to the losing side because we're definitely not good to win jack and I don't want us in the worst spot a team in the NBA can possibly be in.  So...lose.  LOSE.

On a general note I am hoping that a new coach means and end to that win 6 in a row then lose 6 in a row streakiness of the  last 2 regular seasons. Anyway, Bold Predictions: Jeff Green gets his first 40 point,  game of the season, Bass totally locks down LMA to the point they just sit him in the 4th quarter, Jordan Crawford shoots 0 threes.

I haven't seen Portland play yet this season. Looking forward to seeing how much they have improved. The Blazers look like a 45 win type team to me unless Lillard or one of their other young ones makes a big leap forward.

Their bench looks stronger with guys like Mo Williams and Dorell Wright on it. Those two guys alone should make Portland's depth much better after last year's terrible second unit.

Joel Freeland is reportedly ready to take on a steady role. Interested to see how Thomas Robinson fares. He should become a solid NBA player at point. Has the tools. Looking forward to seeing those two big guys too.

Robin Lopez looks a good upgrade over JJ Hickson also. Gives Portland real size in the paint defensively. 2nd year for Damian Lillard - interested to see what type of improvements he has made.

This game will go as the match-up Bradley - Lillard goes. If Avery manages to stay out of foul trouble I am very optimistic about the outcome.
Curious how KO fares against LMA.

Lamarcus Aldridge bugs me. He is considered a top 5 power forward and regularly puts up 21 and 9. But, he coasts for huge stretches on both ends of the floor.

*I just looked at the box score and he has 8 points and 5 rebounds already. I wouldn't know it. I feel like he can do more.

Yes, Bass is regressing, at least shooting wise, back to his average.  He was hitting 83% of his shots 13-18ft or something around there.  No way that keeps up through an entire year.

I would like to matchup Bass with T.Robinson and keep him away from Aldridge.

I like Sully against Aldridge.

Yes, Bass is regressing, at least shooting wise, back to his average.  He was hitting 83% of his shots 13-18ft or something around there.  No way that keeps up through an entire year.

Obviously. Not much of a knock.

Maybe the two best low post scoring bigs in the league?

Yeah I mean this is Kelly's what, 10th professional game or so?  I still love the kid, I just would like to see him play with a defensive big man with legit size.  I think in the right situation he could really blow up, but when we have him defending Jefferson or Aldridge it's just depressing at times.  I can only imagine what is going to happen when we play the Spurs.

And BASS!!!!!

Not me, get and stay on the ref's good side.  Send in tapes to the league after the game.  What do we get if we win this game and some ref takes it out on us for the next 10 years.  Just lay low and keep coaching.

Really upset with the way we are playing today, no discipline and lack of effort. I don't care if we lose but if we don't match the effort of the opponent it is disappointing. Plus it is really weird having a coach that never complains about calls, I feel like it makes it that much easier for the refs to call questionable fouls on us when we don't even complain, minor gripe though, just wanna win some of these home games.

Another disappointing loss, time for the usual Gerald Wallace media call out I guess.

These upcoming games are going to be brutal (Wolves, Rockets, Spurs, and Pacers) we may be hearing a lot of rants from Wallace this week.

Portland has a big frontcourt and Fav played 13 minutes he should be getting 20 min a game.

Yep, this was a good matchup for him. Robin Lopez was right for Faverani and Fav did well against Freeland too. Should have gotten more court time.

I would have liked to have seen Humphries get a call also. Less Bass. Aldridge was too much for Bass to handle.

No question Portland is a better team but this was a winnable game until we let down at the end of the 3rd quarter, a 4-6 point game feels a lot different than a 12 point game in the 4th quarter. Learning experience hopefully, it just seems like certain guys were not creating good shots, even though Crawford takes a lot of strange shots and makes dangerous plays he actually creates a lot more easy baskets with all the attention he is able to attract where Avery doesn't create anything easy for anyone.

If Sully plays, Lamarcus should call 911, cause he's getting abused tonight.

Called it.
Too bad its a loss.
But Sully was great!

So what's gonna be the call out by Wallace:

1.Lackadaisical
2. Selfish
3. Stat padding
4. Combo of 1-3

I personally think they weren't as aggressive....but also Portland was the better team tonight and their shooters were AUTOMATIC.

The effort was good...they were a bit out classed and balls and call weren't going enough our way.

Every time we started a run , they answered with a run,   Just a tuff team to out score

Danny Ainge is a bandit.

If the nets don't turn this around and we get a top 5-10 pick (granted that the hawks suck too) Dannys trade will make him GM of the year

Rooting for us to lose from here on.  I've decided to stick to the losing side because we're definitely not good to win jack and I don't want us in the worst spot a team in the NBA can possibly be in.  So...lose.  LOSE.

Go Portland!  Go!

Fans like you disgust me!

Wow, dude.  Low, don't you think?  I love this team and this franchize just as much as anyone here.  Hence my cheer for them losing because I know the future is bright because of it.

Ending up a .500 team and loosing out on most part of the juicy draft that's coming up is detrimental to our future.  I love Danny's way of thinking...the man is a genius.  There's a difference between working hard and working smart, son.  Learn it

Sully is growing on me.  He's averaging 20 and 10 per 36 minutes.  Should be a future starter.   We can't trade Bass fast enough.

sully lookin like a steal ! i love that brad stevens is making him earn the starting spot over bass. at least i think thats what he is doing ? we need a legit re bounder in the starting five. Bass is definitely being showcased to get traded at the deadline. he is just the odd man on this roster in my opinion, ship him with brooks somewhere.

Portland is just a much better team. And we're coming off tough stretch of games.

Is there really any way Sully can grow another 2 inches? I feel he'll be dominant if he's longer...

Is Portland a better team??? yes.  Could the Celtics have won tonight??? yes.  They kept within striking distance but missed too many easy shots and made too many turnovers in key parts of the game.

If the Celtics as a team make their layup s alone it would have been a closer game.  Way to many stupid turnovers at critical times .
