I think Utah is ripe for the picking.Maybe, but you can make a similar argument about the C's. Our starters are all bench players except perhaps Green.
Their PG rotation is John Lucas III and Jamaal Tinsley. Neither one of which should be playing regular minutes in the NBA. Their big man duo of Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter is pretty solid but they have no depth behind them. I mean Rudy Gobert is their main backup big. Gordon Hayward is a strong player on the wing but after Hayward they are relying on Richard Jefferson and Alec Burks. Both are good backup quality wings and question marks as starters.
There is some young talent there to be developed for the future but in the here and now there isn't a whole lot of talent on that Utah Jazz squad. I think they are going to be something like a 25 win team this year.

Another bad team on the docket tonight?Agreed... once we start playing competent teams we're going to see some blowouts.
The C's may have had the softest 5 game start of the season of any team and yet might start the season 0-5.

Aside from the Grizzlies?
Who, I guess, don't win games with high volume scoring, so that's fair.

I'm proud that we hung in there. I hope all of them are hard-fought losses. The grizzlies should be a playoff team this year... I figured that would have been our first blowout.
People talkin about the Jazz as a tanking team, but their starting big men have been double-double machines so far this season.
I expect them to crush the Celtics in the paint.

I don't believe it. We have a veritable army of feisty paint defenders on our roster.

Give a player enough playing time and looks and he will get 10 and 10. I actually think Faverani and Sullinger are an even matchup for Kanter and Favors, maybe even have an advantage over the Jazz duo.

I also agree I like Fav-Sully over Favors-Kanter. Celtics front court is really not in bad shape. They can bang with anybody (add in Hump too) and there some good offensive skills in both Sully and Olynyk. Even Fav's offensive game is decent at times, just needs to be be more consistent.People talkin about the Jazz as a tanking team, but their starting big men have been double-double machines so far this season.

I like the Sully vs Favors matchup. I think Sully is the more skilled player and maybe has the advantage there. At worst, it's neutral.
I don't have a good read yet on Faverani. He has shown some positive things and some negative things. His performance has varied widely at times and I am not sure how he'll fare against a guy like Kanter (since he hasn't faced anyone like that yet) so I'll give Kanter the nod here.
Where I really like it for Boston is whenever one of Kanter/Favors goes to the bench because Boston's other big men are much much better than Utah's backup bigs. Utah have no depth up front.
It's not just the downgrade of Big Al and Millsap to Kanter and Favors but it's also the downgrade of having Kanter and Favors as backup bigs (arguably the best big combination in the league last year) to the guys they got off the bench this year.
Glad that Crawford is finally starting at point.
[reads comment, jumps in front of fast-moving vehicle]
Crawford to start at the point with Bradley at the two. Wallace off the bench. Hopefully with Ab and Craw both staring Pressey will get some time. But then I keep saying this and it never happens.
A. Sherrod Blakely @SherrodbCSN 56m
Crawford at the point tonight. Bradley, green, bass and Faverani in the starting lineup for #celtics
Baxter Holmes @BaxterHolmes
Gerald Wallace on move to bench: "I worked my tail off in the league to become a starter. It’s something that’s new to me."

wow, Wallace is a piece of work. He needs to realize he hasn't been NBA starting material in years now.
"I’m just trying to make sense of everything. I’m trying to figure out what’s really going on and go from there," he said. "I don’t have a clue. I don’t know what’s going on. My thing is, when I’m on the court, I compete to win. And when I’m not, it’s just cheer my guys on and hopefully we’ll get a win tonight."
Wallace said he won't approach Stevens about the change.
"I’m done talking. Whatever they say, it’s their team," he said. "They can do whatever they want to do. (I’m just) going to come out and compete hard and try to win."
Here's more...yeah Wallace is p---ed!Quote"I’m just trying to make sense of everything. I’m trying to figure out what’s really going on and go from there," he said. "I don’t have a clue. Here's more...yeah Wallace is p---ed!Keep him around. He's garbage and will help the tank effort. Plus, he's stuck on the books for a few seasons. I think Utah is ripe for the picking. Their PG rotation is John Lucas III and Jamaal Tinsley. Neither one of which should be playing regular minutes in the NBAAs oppsoed to, uh, Avery and Jordan?
Agreed on Crawford (3rd stringer). Not on Avery. Avery is a rotation caliber player.I think Utah is ripe for the picking. Their PG rotation is John Lucas III and Jamaal Tinsley. Neither one of which should be playing regular minutes in the NBAAs oppsoed to, uh, Avery and Jordan?
FYI listening to Utah's announcing team. They watched Rondo at half court warming up and one calf muscle is dramatically bigger than the other. They said it will take a lot of time to build that up... suggested he's at least a couple months away. I doubt we'll see him until after the all-star break. That is worrying.
Roto, sure. But not on point.Agreed on Crawford (3rd stringer). Not on Avery. Avery is a rotation caliber player.I think Utah is ripe for the picking. offense is so much better with pressey. wowAnd Sully + Olynyk
Bradley never learned how to pass, but he is a great defender though, I wish we could mix bradley and pressey into one player

I'm afraid the result will have a great defense, solid passing and will be a 6'0" SG.
Wallace doing good things both Offensively and Defensively.
epic mini comeback. Pressey didn't score a point but he man a huge difference.
100 times better than AB + Jcraw
Olynyk making some good defensive rotations.
we are upYeah, this three point shooting is flattering the C's. It won't last.
3's are fallin
but i dont see much else
rondo would really take
this team to another level
Happy Sully has come back in when Olynyk went out.

we fightin that tank!
Favors is not looking too good.He still has no offensive game. Lack of development.
Vintage AB :P
If Wallace shows consistency he. Ought be tradeable
Favors is not looking too good.He still has no offensive game. Lack of development.
He's a guy where I wonder if he'd be better off as an undersized but quick center rather than a burly power forward. Try to use his quickness to face up and go around opposing centers. Needs to upgrade his skill-level to survive at PF.
I'd start Humphries in the 2nd half instead of Faverani.
Sully ......bossman around basket tonight
Sully looking good in the neighborhood around the basket. nice jumper before the half also. KO not bad either. I like the fight in this ballclub.
Jared Sullinger. Good at beating things. :P
Loving this lead, and the passing. Now they just need to hold onto it through the fourth.
Sully ......bossman around basket tonight
yep. been needing this for years. he will only get better as will KO and fav.
we end up keeping green and rondo if we can get back to back top 5 picks this year and next year then trade for an all star we will be in bidness boyz! booya! we could be competing for a title in 3 or 4 years.

Waiting for KOs shot to fall, need to boost the confidence and the shots.
Bass Thumpin'
utah outtanking us. ;D go C's!
Updated score please
Jazz are either that bad or we have become that good. Jazz offensive fouls galore
that's what I can't get over with this game. no depth for Utah. everyone but the starters should be collecting paychecks from a different league.Jazz are either that bad or we have become that good. Jazz offensive fouls galore
Oh the Jazz are headed to the lottery, no doubt. They're young and have no depth.

C's should win this simply because they have more mediocre players they can bring in off the bench than Utah.
I remember seeing several posts in the Trades forums where some people were hellbent to get Favors. other than this kid's size, I'm not seeing the fascination with himHe isn't doing Utah any FAVORS....nice bass hook..!!!
Keep shooting the hook Bass. You know he has been copying ME..!!!

Y, gotta remember..C's ain't the only ones gunning for good picks..!!! Many other tankers out there....and in the end..it is a LOTTERY.....well, SORT OF..! depends how the league likes ya also...!
So far......DA. Hasn't gave th secret signal to Brad to tank......this gamehey, we're good for at least 1 Gino sighting every year regardless of how bad the team is ;)
Maybe he is going to throw the fans a bone on this one ;D

In the maybe 10 times i have seen Favors play i have not been impressed. 10 million per year is a lot of money to pay a guy who is still a project.
Kanter on the other hand has a lot of good stuff, at least on offense.
Sully and KO murdering them at the paint...

BASS
still THUMPIN!!
BASS FOREVER THUMPIN!
wow -- 2 of those little dink hooks by Bass over Favors. Favors should be paying the Jazz to be on the court
wowwwww.... stop shooting!!
attack the paint like what we used to do in the last 3 quarters
tank mode engage.
This.
Is.
Stressful.
Sulllyyy should come in earlier
This will be the best loss of the year if we can pull it off.
Tank McNamara...Tanker..super tanker..Tanks-a-lot..!!!
I told myself I wouldn't care if they won/lost, but I really can't take being up by 20+ points going into the 4th and giving it up. The only way they can survive their 4th qtr atrocities is if they have a 30 point lead going into it.so, no difference from the past 3 years when this team (with Doc, PP, KG and Ray) would cough up huge leads? :-\
BASSSSSS IS THUMPIN!!!! WHAT A BLOCK!
just be glad you didn't PAY for tickets..!!!lol agreed.
Does this team get more calls than last years?it does seem that way. I thought it was just me but maybe not.
They just rammed our. Tank. With their mega tanker
Abandon ship. :D
Man, Utah's got a really strong tank.have to agree. I just don't see any other team with such a complete lack of talent and depth.

Boooo... This is crap. Andrew wiggins is rolling over in his grave.
congrats coach brad. too bad you will not get used to it.
Woowww finally a win!! Jazz' mega-tank is undeniable ;D

Haha. Utah is brutal. The #29 team will be swapping places with the #30 team.
This is interesting I wonder if this is how teams like the Bobcats talk every year. Huge tanks. I forgot what it's like to be the fan of a bottom feeder but ill take it, I want a top 3 pick in this draft. Give me Wiggins, Parker, or Randle please
The easy games are over
Mount up.... celtic brothers
Tank battle ahead ......full steam. ....woo hoo

Yeah, I've resigned myself to a year or two of this brutality, but it's only because I have faith that Danny will have us back in contention in short order. And we have the Sox, the Pats and the B's all in contention.
We're pretty spoiled here in title town.

And when I am wrong I say I am wrong. I thought Olynyk was going to be a bust but finally saw tonight what everyone else was getting so excited about. I am going to temper my expectations because I think he needs to add about 10-15 pounds of muscle to be most effective but, his chemistry and fit with Sully tonight was extremely encouraging.
So I was wrong. He won't be a bust, or at least lets hope not. But he will need to get a lot of work in to get some of those moves in versus the better defensive teams in the league.

Very true, thought there are some body types you know the pro trainers and dieticians just can not do anything with, like JaJuan Johnson. He was strong but his frame was never going to let him get to be strong enough to make it in this league. And when I am wrong I say I am wrong. I don't think you can really evaluate a big in terms of their bodies until their second year, that first summer when they're following a regimen the training staff gives them can make a big difference.

Stevens called a better game from the bench tonight , Inserting Hump and Pressey at the correct moment.I also liked his change to a more traditional lineup with Wallace leading the bench crew. Best move he made all season,IMHO.

Olynyk's frame is good and he can add some muscle and be okay. Where I would like to see him put on some muscle is in his legs so he will be able to hold his position better down low. He gets moved around rather easily at times.

Olynyk looks more like a guy who hasn't put maximum effort into the weight room than someone who's been unable to get stronger despite his best effort.

My grade for this game. As always, our three objectives are #1 - hard-fought losses. #2 - Develop the youngs. #3 - Showcase the overpaid vets.Wow. And here I thought pessimistic pro-tankers was a pleonasm. :]
#1 - We almost pulled off the tank late, but ultimately let this one get away from us. Our first win of the season. Fail.
#2 - Great games out of Sully and Oly. Bradley was his typical "meh" self. Vitor's worse game. Overall this was a good one. CHECK.
#3 - Bass 20 points. Wallace 9 and 9. Lee had an effective 5 minutes. I'll give this a CHECK.
Overall score: C- Our worst outing this year. I understand it was vs the worst team in the league, but we can't make a habit out of winning. Hopefully the Celtics right the ship next outing vs Orlando. We just need to get through this stretch... softest opening schedule in the league. It's been difficult to tank under these optimal conditions. Luckily we have some quality teams on the horizon.
Vitor seems in the doghouse.

yeah, Stevens yanked him pretty quick. he gave up a few easy baskets and he was gone.
My grade for this game. As always, our three objectives are #1 - hard-fought losses. #2 - Develop the youngs. #3 - Showcase the overpaid vets.

Seemed like Stevens wanted more quickness on the floor. Quicker big men. To compete with Utah's young frontline (Favors, Kanter) who were beating Boston's bigs up and down the court far too easily. And it worked, it worked well so he stuck with it.
So I think it was matchup related more than anything.

Complete nonsense. Cavs had a horrible losing culture when LeBron arrived and he eventually took them to the Finals. Sonics were activately trying to lose games during Durant's rookie year and they eventually made the Finals. Celtics tanked it up Rondo's rookie season and yet Rondo/Perk had no issue contributing to a champion the following year.My grade for this game. This is what is striking me...
So we're supposed to not have a winning habit. Okay, so if this "we should go for losses" plan works and we get the number 1 pick, guess what, that supposed superstar comes to a team who doesn't know how to win, if he even turns into a superstar. And that's another thing.
And then we are just going to waste his talents and will rebuild again in the next 8 years because his supporting cast are perennial losers who never learned how win, because this crazy tank job prevented them to.
Sorry, I'd rather have a team who's hungry for wins. I'd rather have a team that will not accept losing and will battle it out every night for the W, in turn giving them valuable experience and development and also builds character. Give me that and the mid round pick that comes with it instead of that precious #1 overall pick and the repercussion of not having a habit of winning.

Losing this year is A-Ok and I'm actively in support of tanking. Additionally... Maybe 2 or 3 players on this squad will still be Celtics the next time they make the playoffs. It literally doesn't matter. We don't have much to gain from winning right now. The moderately talented youngs will get their reps in regardless. Our foundation will be built on guys who haven't been drafted yet.
This is a one year thing. I have no doubt Ainge will start to make moves to make us competitive next year. In the short term, our only goals are to #1 - Lose Close Games. #2 - Develop the youngs. #3 - Showcase the overpaid vets
We'll take a couple wins every once in a while, but we're best off losing as much as possible this season.
I am getting tired real quick at the "TANKERS" mentality on this board. they want you to believe that Danny Ainge and Brad Stevens are in league together in some kind of conspiracy to intentionally lose games. If you believe in fairy tales then just keep sipping that kool aid!!!
When this coach figures out who plays best with who, this team will win some games. do you realize how many new people this guy has got to look at let alone thinking of who will fit the best with Rondo when he returns???
Relax, it will all come together sooner than you think.
Boston finished with the 4th worst record in 1969-70... landed Dave Cowens for their trouble. Eastern Conference Finals during Cowens' second year... eventually two championships.
