Key Matchups
(http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/headshots/nba/players/full/2745.png&w=250&h=184)  vs  (http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/headshots/nba/players/full/4260.png&w=250&h=184)
Brandon Bass vs Greg Monroe
Greg Monroe is averaging 15.9 points and 9.6 rebounds this season, but in the two games vs the Celtics, he has averaged 17.5 points and 12 rebounds.  Just think of what Pekovic did to the Celtics in their last game and you'll realize why it will be important for Bass to keep Monroe out of the paint.

(http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/headshots/nba/players/full/1731.png&w=250&h=184)  vs  (http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/headshots/nba/players/full/6585.png&w=250&h=184)
Chris Wilcox vs Andre Drummond
Drummond is averaging 7.4 points and 7.5 rebounds this season and has been playing well.  But as with Monroe, he seemed to play even better against the Celtics and scored 16 points in his last game against the C's.

Honorable Mention

Jose Calderon vs Avery Bradley
This is the first time the Celtics will face Calderon on the Pistons.  He is averaging 11.4 points and 7.1 assists for the year.  Hopefully Avery has busted his slump and will be able to hit his shots as well as slowing down Calderon from getting the Pistons into their sets quickly.

Game Notes
The Celtics face former Celtics assistant Lawrence Frank and his Pistons for the 3rd and final time this season.  Before getting excited that this will be an easy game against the 25 win Pistons, remember that they have already beaten the Celtics twice this season.  The Pistons won the first game between them 103-83 and the second game 103-88 and so the Celtics should be looking to avenge those losses along with trying to get on track and find their rhythm going into the playoffs.

The Celtics have played pretty well at home this season with a 25-11 record at the Garden.  The Pistons are just 10-27 on the road.  Both teams have been struggling with the Pistons going 2-8 in their last 10 games and the Celtics going 3-7 in their last 10.   The Celtics have lost 2 in a row while the Pistons are looking to win their second straight after beating the Raptors on Monday.   Detroit has won their last 4 games against the Celtics.

The Celtics are still in the 7th spot in the East but they have dropped to just 1.5 games in front of the Bucks, who own the tie breaker should the two teams end up tied.  The Celtics are 3 games behind Chicago in the 6th spot and 3.5 games behind Atlanta in the 5th spot.  So, pretty much the Celtics are playing to stay in the 7th spot and not drop back into 8th.  The Pistons are playing for ping pong balls, but as with every team, it seems that they would rather beat the Celtics than get a better draft spot.

It will seem strange not seeing Paul Pierce against Tayshaun Prince, who was traded at the deadline to the Grizzlies after 11 seasons in Detroit.   The Pistons are one of the teams that the Celtics should beat but they are also a team that they shouldn't take for granted as can be seen by their blow out losses in the first two games between these two teams.

Keys to the Game
Defense - It all begins with defense.   When they play lock down defense they are very hard to beat.    When they get lax on defense, they struggle all the way around.  Without KG, the Celtics have struggled on defense and they have to find a way to get back to playing Celtics defense again.

Rebound - The Celtics need to be aggressive on the boards.  Rebounding is effort and if the Celtics are putting the effort out to grab rebounds then that effort will translate to the other areas of their game.  Every Celtic needs to crash the boards.  It has to be a team effort.

Focus and Aggressiveness
- It could be easy for the Celtics to let down their guard in this one.   But they need to keep their focus and be aggressive.  They have to be aggressive in going to the basket and not settle for jumpers.  They have to be aggressive on defense and going for loose balls.  They have to focus on every player playing his role in the team game.

X-Factors
Home Again and Final Stretch
The Celtics are back home again where they have played well this season.  They have to let the crowd pump them up to get a win against a team they haven't been able to beat yet this season.  They also have to get very serious about finding their rhythm and identity as a team during this final stretch going into the playoffs.

I expect nothing but a win, based on the sole fact that we're playing at home.

We play so, so, so much better at home than on the road. Every single one of our players plays great at home, and fails on the road. Fact.

Should be a win, though I'm not guaranteeing any blowouts. More like down 10 at the start of Q4, only to pull out another comeback win.

But we don't lose at home. Doubt we lose this game.

This is true but also very, very concerning considering the fact that the Celtics must win on the road in the playoffs.  Will they suddenly have a completely different mindset on the road in the playoffs?  We can only hope they will, but it's still very concerning.

Yeah... we can win every game at home (all three) but at some point we need to steal one on the road. We did it once against the Pacers, off a nice play (that Green layup), but it was tough. Pacers are very good at home, but pretty bad on the road. It might require a very clutch Game 7 performance by us... (good thing they have no real star!)

Drummond and Monroe inside, with Calderon feeding them, we are screwed. We couldn't even handle Pekovic alone.

they're going to demolish us in the paint, with or without Paul this is a guaranteed L.

In the meantime, Doc Rivers is really getting on my nerves. As a fan, I'd like to be solid on who I get to watch and don't get to watch. The C's org and all the covering up of injuries is so annoying. Why would he open his mouth in the first place on either KG or PP? It's ANNOYING!!

UGH

When they have Monroe at PF the difference is negligible, going to get beat up on the boards no matter where he is.

Unless you are Bass/Green/Pierce this game.

Detroit can't really hang with the C's unless they're getting on the offensive glass.

Celtics still have talent. KG, Green, Pierce, Bradley can be pretty darn good. Terry, Bass, Lee are serviceable. If we could get some good minutes out of Randolph/Wilcox we will be hard to beat.

With 29 pts already tonight, #Celtics F Jeff Green averaging 22.1 ppg in his 11 starts. Over full season, would put him 8th in NBA scoring.

Small sample size, but still encouraging nonetheless.

Why is Wilcox still on this roster?

he should be totally out of the playoff rotation after that blown play. He was in strictly for defensive purposes and gave his man an open layup

I've liked him since his rookie year but Detroit isn't letting him go anywhere.  even if Monroe left detroit, we don't have anywhere near enough money available to get his agent to take a call from Danny

Why give the ball to the guy who's 0-6 from three, and known to be not clutch.. the ball when you're down 3 and have 29 seconds to score. Dumb move by Pistons, I would've given it  to Monroe for another quick rack-attack

I don't know why stupidoc didn't play him enough. We could've sustained that 15 point lead if he subbed shav in right away in the 3rd

Monroe's contract ends this season, and he's only making 4 - 5 million per year. That would definitely go up higher when he negotiates for a new contract, I just hope the C's stick their necks out there for him, because that guy is a beast, imagine Sully and Monroe rebounding, 30 rebounds a night just from the 2 of them

At best, C's will only have the MLE to spend on him and it's more than likely it'll be the taxpayer's MLE which is even less.   If he leaves Detroit (no sure thing), it'll be for a team ready to throw more than 10 mill a year at him.  look at what Perk makes and keep adding money

panic sets in when I see Bass has the ball.......... he truly misses Rondo......somebody to handle the ball and let himself get setup in position.

Bass can barely dribble the ball from one end of the court to the other end without fumbling the ball away. ....he can't catch a pass....or hold on to rebound........

Bass was Rondo's "jump shot. ..

they should go together as one person to make a complete player.

Holy smokes

Did not notice Bass's 17 on EIGHT shots. 4TOs suck but 7 boards in 37 mins.

Very solid.

I still like him in less minutes, though. Very good spark plug.

Exactly.

The lineup wasn't the issue.  We started going cold (Terry really can rack up misses) and started just playing stagnant.

I think the team just got lazy on defense, which is sadly predictable when you get up 18 against the Pistons.

Just glad they pulled it out, can't wait till KG is back out there.
