Game Notes
The Celtics move on to Phoenix, still looking for their first win on this 5 game road trip.  This is the second and final meeting between these two teams.  The Celtics won 88-71 in Boston, but that was before injuries created havoc with their roster.

The Suns are better at home than they are on the road, but they are still under .500 at home with a 12-13 record.  The Celtics have struggled on the road and are just 8-17 away from the Garden.  The Celtics are 7-10 in their last 10 games are are looking to avoid a 3 game losing streak on the trip.  The Suns are 3-7 in their last 10 games looking to avoid their second straight loss.

With the trading deadline in the rear mirror, this core group has another opportunity to win another ring.  They need to regroup and pull together and try to make it happen.  The push for Banner 18 begins anew with this game.

Key Matchups
(http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/boston/BassBos.jpg)  vs (http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/phoenix/ScolaPhx.jpg)
Brandon Bass vs Luis Scola
Scola is averaging 12.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.4 assists this season.   In the first meeting between these two teams, Scola was the Suns high scorer with 16 points.  He is capable of putting up big numbers and Bass must stick with him on defense to prevent him from having another big game.   It would also help if Bass can develop more consistency and get back to the way he played last season.

(http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/boston/KGBos.jpg)  vs  (http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/phoenix/GortatPhx.jpg)
Kevin Garnett vs Marcin Gortat
Gortat is averaging  11.3 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists this season.  In the first meeting between these two teams Gortat exceeded his season averages with 12 points, 14 rebounds, and 5 blocks.  With the Celtics being even more short handed up front, this matchup becomes even more key.    It will be up to KG to keep him out of the paint.

Honorable Mention
Benches
In the first meeting between these two teams, the Celtics' starters scored a total of 40 points while the bench pitched in 47.  Since then, the Celtics bench has been depleted.  Jared Sullinger came up big in that game with 16 rebounds and he will be very much missed.  Also no Barbosa, and Lee off the bench this time.  Terrence Williams has just a few minutes playing time with the team.  Crawford may or may not be able to play.  Only Chris Wilcox is left to back up both KG and Bass.  The remaining bench players must step up for the Celtics to win this one.

Keys to the Game
Defense - This is the key to every win this season and to a championship as well.   We have seen the Celtics defense that we have come to know and love in the recent win streak.   But we have also seen games where the defense just isn't there as in the Lakers game. Playing defense like that takes energy and teamwork and hopefully the Celtics will continue to play with that type of intensity on the defensive end.

Ball Movement -  The Celtics need to move the ball and find the open man in order to stretch the Suns weak defenses.  They also need to try to get the ball into the paint and not just settle for jumpers.  If they get the ball into the post they will be able to score, draw the foul or kick out for an open jumper.   When the ball moves, the Celtics are much harder to guard.

Crash the Boards
- The Celtics must make an effort to grab rebounds, especially on the offensive end.   By grabbing offensive rebounds it will prevent the Suns from getting out on the break.     Rebounding is mostly desire and effort and the team that wants it most will win the rebounding battle.   With the lack of size on the team,  every Celtic must make an extra effort to grab rebounds.

X-Factors
Road, Players, Officials
1.  The Celtics have struggled on the road this season.  They are just 8-17 away from the Garden.  They have also lost the first two games on the trip and hopefully can get back on track and get a win in this one.
2.  The Celtics are short handed.  They have just Chris Wilcox left to back up both KG and Bass.  They have 2 new players who are limited in their knowledge of the system.
3.  The first two games on this road trip resulted in a big free throw disparity.  The Nuggets shot 20 more free throws than the Celtics.  The Lakers shot 11 more free throws than the Celtics but at one point it was 22 for the Lakers to 4 for the Celtics.  Hopefully the Celtics can get a fair shake from the officials in this one.

Didnt you hear? We traded Garnett for a first rounder + ben gordon and traded wilcox for a field mouse.

We now have jeff green playing center and pierce at the 4.

There isn't even Jason Collins there anymore to absorb some minutes.

Haha, Fab Melo is going to get minutes. That should be fun.

This seems a bad game to rest KG. A very winnable game which will be put in doubt with KG's absence.

He must be pretty banged up.

I'm all for starting Green over Bass.
I know right?
It's not like Bass is a better rebounder.

Green gives us another dimension and he needs more PT and Bass less.

First Half Thoughts:
1. Green is abusing Scola on the wing, if Jeff Green can consistently drive to the hole he can play the four for us. He should probably start for us. Pierce's rebounding compliments Green's lack of rebounding.
2. Terrence Williams should have been signed for the rest of the year after the first quarter.
3. Crawford looks nervous with his shot (less smooth, more hesitation)
4. Still waiting to see the offensive game that Bradley showed to end the year.
5. Love Wilcox's energy. Maybe he doesn't always make the right play like Collins, but his ceiling is so much higher.

after a triple overtime, and also we lost Barbosa that game

so it was a physical and mental breakdown that day...I won't look too far into it

o and the Lakers lost, I just view as, an emotional game for the Lakers, they wanted it so bad to honor Jerry Buss

Which Celtics player is wearing those ugly new Jordans??

Twill, our new PG ;D

Haha yup, he tweeted about it too.

Thanks!

Oh well, I wouldn't have a problem with him wearing even flip-flops if he is gonna play as well as he did in this 1st half! :D

Pierce:

gets posterized by everyone
gets his ankles broken by everyone
gets big shots hit in his face everytime
misses double-FTs all the time
is the best player on our team

I know a lot of players who would just give up ;D

Er, Paul Pierce is not the best player on this team

You must be kidding. ???

Love Pierce but put KG at number 1.

KG who? We don't need him! I kid.

Yea!! Good pickups! White is coming to town too, you guys's thoughts?

Are you kidding. Hang banner 18 now.  ::)

honestly this is a fun game to watch. the celtics are running and taking good shots.

their defense on the pick and roll stinks, but otherwise it is ok.

green is impressive.

i dont know if the celtics are "better" without rondo, but based on this game they are more fun to watch.

Might as well put our best players on the field to start:

PG: Williams
SG: Bradley
SF: Pierce
PF: Green
C: Garnett

Lee, Crawford, Terry bombing from the bench. Love it.

Amen to that. It's excruciatingly frustrating how adamant Doc is with his lineups. His stubbornness has got to change. Bass has been, and will continue to be trash. Play the guy that's hot, and that's Wilcox atm.

Doc is so inconsistent with Chris's minutes... he has faith and Chris plays well, then he benches him for the rest of the game.

Jeff green is a beast. I like Williams. He provides a little bit of everything. And I can break out my old Eric Williams jersey.

The new guys are looking good and man do I feel sorry for all those knuckleheads that have been bashing Jeff Green this year, the guy is a star.

Same people that bashed him would be hating on Ainge right now if they let him walk.

Wish they had packaged him for a big man.

What is impressing me most about Green's performance tonight are those 5 blocks and 2 steals. Great defense.

The scoring efficiency and outburst is a very close second, though.  ;D

what's up with Beasley taking off?
Scale just said, maybe he wasn't satisfied with his number of touches, he has 8 FG attempts in 18 minutes, lol.
I heard Scal's reasoning but I took it as a jab at Beasley than an actual fact

agreed. i'll admit my cockles are tingling right now after this game. so many contributors. so many in double digits. wow. The two new guys look good. i love the attacking. jet and green were money. wilcox? unbelievable finishes. keep running! i want 10 points or more out of wilcox every night.  ;D

Hmm? There was nothing about today's game that was a departure from what he's been doing this whole season. Evident, that this was one of his better games, but it didn't come from doing anything significantly different.

Doc lovers say: Wilcox bad on rotation d.

Doc haters say: Doc is a total moron and had no basis at all to play Collins. Wicox in fact was so much quicker that he could recover

Let me add that KG is in correct position MAYBE 20% of the time. But he can still react as well as almost anyone. he is like a db who is trying to get the qb to throw an int. But Doc won't give that up to Wilcox who showed that he does this too: leans one way then is super quick enough to roll back and block a shot

When I read Collins was traded, my first thought was that this would help Wilcox. He'll be fine if he plays 15 mpg.

Phoenix should be embarrassed to get blown out like by 25 points by a short-handed Boston team.

The minute we signed him, I thought "Isn't this the guy that got into it with KG", lol....

Glad we got him....nice move by Danny.

He's always had an edge about him, to me....we NEED that off our bench....he's going to help us.

Watched the replay....while not the best played game ever, still entertaining.   Good ball movement on the offense, lots of good looks, though the Suns D not world-beaters of course.   Very nice game by Green....he was the go-to on the offense, even above Paul tonight, who stills looks hurt.

If this is who we have, might as well enjoy the rest of the season, and hope we can hold onto a PO position....
