Yes, sad day for his faimly, the Lakers, and the NBA as a whole.

As much as I loathe the Lakers, the man was genious with how he ran the Lakers.

RIP.  :'(

He was a laker legend.

Have to agree with many that he's the greatest NBA owner of all time.

Rough year for the Lakers gets worse.

I hate the Lakers with a passion but Buss was one of the better owners in the history of professional sports.  That's a bummer.

As much as I love to watch the Lakers struggle on the basketball court, this is sad news. RIP.

Terrific owner. A dream owner for fans.

Big loss for both the Lakers and the league as a whole.

I hate the Lakers like everyone else here, but Laker and Celtics fans I think respect each other a lot more since the Heat teamed up.

Buss was unquestionably one of the best owners in sports and kept that team at an elite or near-elite level for the vast majority of 3+ decades.  Remarkable run.

Huge loss, Lakers could be headed to Knicksville when it comes to ownership given the Jeanie/Jim situation.

The thing is, Jeanie/Jim have been running things for years.  I really don't see much change.

I refuse to say anything nice about the Lakers, but I sure would like to replicate Buss' reported ability to "date" hundreds of teenagers well into his 70s.

It's his death, why don't we wait a few days to say stuff like that?

RIP, Jerry Buss, a great owner and a legend for the game of basketball.

Is it too tasteless to say that this current Lakers squad might be what did him in?

If you're a young person interested in making money, read this

Quote
That earned Buss a job at the Douglas Aircraft Company where he was paid $700 a month.

He decided to put aside $83.33 from that monthly paycheck in order to raise a thousand dollars in one year. Mariani, a fellow worker, did the same. Getting four other investors to join them, Buss and Mariani put down $6,000 in 1959 to buy a 14-unit apartment building in West Los Angeles for $105,000.

A young Buss scraped together his initial real estate investment by saving 12% of his meager salary for a year.  Not having enough funds to do it himself, he threw in with partners to buy his first investment property.

it's ironic that both LA NBA teams are owned by self made real estate investors - one considered the best owner and one the worst.

Here's the Yahoo article on Dr. Buss

Not to take away from his accomplishment or your obviously fiscally responsible message but $700/month in 1959, especially after taxes, is not a meager salary.  I'd love to get a monthly check for $5.5k (after considering inflation).

Get a doctorate in physical chemistry like Dr Buss and you could be making that salary.

Oh, I understand, and I'm not saying the wage is undeserved, I just took issue with the word 'meager' when describing his salary.
