Title: The "I'm pulling at strings" trade scenario
Post by: BleedGreen1989 on February 12, 2013, 10:51:12 AM
Obviously the chances of the Celtics making a trade diminish with every injury. However, this is my attempt to throw spaghetti at the wall.

Two separate trades:

#1-Bos/Den

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=c2jdfvn

Boston Sends: Brandon Bass (possible draft pick?)
Boston Receives: Timmy Mosgov, Anthony Randolph

#2-Bos/Phx/Hou

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=a2uatfr

Boston Sends: Courtney Lee, Jason Collins
Boston Receives: Shannon Brown, Carlos Delfino

Houston Sends: Carlos Delfino
Houston Receives: Wes Johnson, Sabastian Telfair, Jason Collins

Phoenix Sends: Shannon Brown, Sebastian Telfair, Wes Johnson
Phoenix Receives: Courtney Lee, Boston 2nd round pick

Boston then signs Kenyon Martin and Shelvin Mack

Bradley/Brown/Mack
Terry/Brown/Delfino/Mack
Pierce/Green/Delfino
Garnett/Wilcox/Randolph/Martin
Mosgov/Wilcox/Randolph/Martin/Melo

Did my spaghetti stick?
yeah, it stuck together in a big clump.

Don't see why Denver would take on Bass for those 2.  I'm not really sure why the C's do it other than as a shuffling-deck-chairs-on-the-Titanic type of move.  Mozgov and Anthony won't put us over the top so it's really just a move for the sake a making a move.

The Phx deal isn't good for the C's either since we're sending out a productive Lee for 2 less productive wings.  neither really addresses the need for a big man or PG.  more shuffling of deck chairs but this one is costing us a player that's actually producing right now.

It is sort of a shuffling move but the reason I did it is for depth. I love Lee and honestly would probably say no to moving him but both Brown and Delfino have a higher per than Lee.

Also, the Denver trade helps because we get Mosgov who is 7'1" and Randolph who is 6'11"

Whats the point of trading Lee for Brown and Delfino? I think Lee is better than Brown and Delfino wouldnt see the floor being the back up 3. If we trade Lee its gotta be for a big. And thats a big if.

Like I said, I like Lee a lot but there is not a large gap between him and Brown.

So why not keep Lee since he knows the system and has gained a sense of chemistry, and wait til we could possibly net a big instead?

Well if you do the first trade you bring in two bigs. Also, moving Lee gives you some more depth as it's essentially a two-for-one deal
