Game Notes
The Celtics are playing in the second of back to back games and are on the road, both factors should make this game one that they should take seriously, in spite of the Bobcats' 11-39 record.   The Bobcats may have a losing record, but this team always plays hard.

This is the second of 4 games between these two teams.  The Celtics won the first meeting 100-89 in Boston and they will meet twice more in March.   The Celtics are 7-3 in their last 10 games while the Bobcats are just 1-9 in their last 10.  The Celtics are 8-14 on the road while the Bobcats have been even worse at home at 6-19.   The Celtics have won 7 in a row while the Bobcats have lost 7 in a row.

The Celtics are 7th in the East, now 1.5 games ahead of the Bucks, who are in the 8th spot.  They are just half a game behind the Hawks for the 6th spot and 1.5 games behind Brooklyn for the 5th spot.  The Bobcats have the worst record in the league and now are playing for ping pong balls, but in spite of that, they always play hard and so the Celtics can't take them for granted.

The Celtics are playing in the second of back to back games after a tough triple OT win over the Nuggets.   Pierce played 54 minutes.   KG played 47 minutes.  Bradley played 45 minutes.  Terry played 42 minutes.  Green played 41 minutes.   Add the fact that they had to travel after the game and fatigue could very well be a problem in this game.  But still, if the reserves can give the Celtics more in this game, they should be able to get the win.

Key Matchups
(http://msn.foxsports.com/fe/images/NBA/Headshots/140x170/3007.jpg)  vs  (http://msn.foxsports.com/fe/images/NBA/Headshots/140x170/4888.jpg)
Kevin Garnett vs Bismack Biyombo
KG has been playing very well and also has a couple of inches on Biyombo who is averaging 4.4 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks. Biyombo is a good defender and bothers a lot of shots inside, but with KG's size, he should be able to get his shot off over Biyombo without having to bang inside with him.

(http://msn.foxsports.com/fe/images/NBA/Headshots/140x170/4750.jpg)  vs  (http://msn.foxsports.com/fe/images/NBA/Headshots/140x170/4890.jpg)
Avery Bradley vs Kemba Walker
Walker is playing very well for the Bobcats, averaging 17 points , 3.4 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game.  Bradley should be able to match his speed and stay ahead of him to slow down both Kemba and the Bobcats' offense.

Honorable Mention
Paul Pierce vs Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
Kidd-Gilchrist is a promising young rookie who is averaging 9.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.  Since the Celtics are playing in back to back games,  I expect to see Green get more minutes on Gilchrist in this game and between the two,  they should be able to slow him down.

Keys to the Game
Focus and Energy - When the Celtics face teams with losing records, they often come out flat and lack focus and energy and they lose to teams they should easily beat.     The Celtics have got to stay focused and play with energy the entire game because the Bobcats always play hard, even though they don't have the most talent in the league,  and will take advantage of any lapse from the Celtics.

Defense -   The Celtics need to make defense their priority.   Games are won on the defensive end. The effort that the Celtics put out on the defensive end carries over to the offensive end as well.   The Celtics have been playing some very good defense led by their Pit Bull backcourt and they need to continue to do so.

Rebound -    Good things happen when the Celtics crash the boards.   When they show energy in rebounding, that energy spreads to other areas of the game.  They prevent second chance points and fast break baskets by grabbing the rebounds.   Rebounding is effort and the Celtics must put out the effort to win the battle of the boards.

Be Aggressive - When the Celtics are the more aggressive team they usually win.  They need to be aggressive in going to the basket, in grabbing rebounds, and in hustling after loose balls.  Unfortunately they often come out passively against the worst teams and so they have to make an effort to be aggressive in this one.

Don't Settle for Jumpers- The Celtics won't have a lot of legs left after playing big minutes in the double OT game the night before.  They need to get into the paint and not settle for outside jumpers, especially if their legs aren't there and they aren't going down.

X-Factor
Fatigue and Mentality
The Celtics are playing in the second of back to back games and are on the road after a triple overtime game the night before.  This should be an easy game for them,  but fatigue could influence the outcome.  And that brings us to their mentality.   They tend to play down to the teams with the worst records.  They need to come out playing like they are playing the Heat  and if they do, they should get an easy win.

Tough spot here for the Celtics. But they are playing with a purpose and I think that they get the job done in a single digit mid eighties win.

I wouldn't even be mad if we came out and put up a stinker. I think this team will be up for the challenge though. I'm sure they want to ride into the All Star break on a win streak and yes that means taking out Chicago as well.  :P

The Kemba/Bradley matchup should be fascinating.

I like the matchup for Bradley, personally.  I see Kemba as a poor man's Lawson.  Both small but quick with a score-first mentality.  Lawson will try to get to the rim more, while Kemba (from what I've seen) seems more content to settle for jumpshots.

Walker should be easy compared to Lawson last night.

Yeah, I was wondering about that too. I didn't know MKG was back playing.

So that turned out to be nothing in the end. If so, that is great news.

I think Kemba is a poor man's Nate Robinson.

Has no business being a starting PG in this league.

not a trap since everyone knows the celtics are tired are might possibly lose. they aren't walking into this game taking the bobcats lightly...which is the normal recipe for a trap.

after the amazing game last night, the celtics have shown me they can do anything. (pierce's three is still an impossible shot to me. being weak in both faith and body, i had given up hope.  ;D )

celtics will win IF IF IF green, lee, barbosa and the bench play as they should.

and look for melo to break out, a triple double for sure.  ;)

lol...you sound like Poster "Sspence"... ;D

To be honest - I'd rather Jeff Green keep doing what he's doing without worrying about the points.

Paul Pierce playing like he is can be directly attributed to Super Sub Jeff Green.

Plus, I have less concern vs NY or MIA in the playoffs...we now have an athletic, talented, SF that has length and experience that can at least slow these two down a bit.

I'm glad Jeff Green is in Green, and I hope he stays there for the future.

To be fair, they've "rebuilt" about as poorly as it can be done.  Their current strategy is basically "suck until the ping pong balls bounce your way".

Hypothetically...

Doc hasn't played KG/PP since Q1.
It's 6 minutes to go in Q4, Celtics up 95-82.
Bobcats score 12 straight, Doc calls time out with Celtics up 1 and 1 minute to go...
Does he put in Pierce/KJ(lol)?

Just had a thought, who'd love to see Tommy coach this team for about 5 games. Like last 5 of the season or something. It would be funny but i would also be genuinely interested in seeing the results. Just a random thought.

Nice slam by green!

To be fair, they've "rebuilt" about as poorly as it can be done.  Their current strategy is basically "suck until the ping pong balls bounce your way".

True true, and even when that happens, they'd still draft terribly probably.

Haha, I don't doubt it.

Sooo quiet gamethread tonight, i know it's just the bobcats but come on guys...

I"m here and it's 1.30 am in Belgium, after watching past 3 yesterday :P

Anyway, ok first quarter, defense will get better as the game goes on, legs don't seem to be too tired.

A TP for your late-night dedication.

Go to find some middle ground for Jeff.  He's either Lebron/Harden or Acie Earl.  He's likely neither extreme.  I really like Green, but I am hoping for a consistent 15 and 5 with good D.  A very good component.  Not the star.

That said,  great move just now by Jeff.

I might end up regretting it, but I'd be interested in seeing what Wilcox could do if they looked for him on offense a little more.  He has great athleticism, good hands, decent touch around the basket and a short jumpshot.

All true but i think that he's so effective now because of his role. If you expand that or look to him more offensively, he wouldn't be that effective anymore. But yeah, could be interesting, don't know 'till you try it.

Makes me never want to rebuild... Just take some DNA of pierce and Kg, make some young clones and keep playing.

To be fair, they've "rebuilt" about as poorly as it can be done.  Their current strategy is basically "suck until the ping pong balls bounce your way".
Pity the talented collegian selected to play with this lot. Draft= eh

I'd imagine it'd be hard to get behind a team that has never been even mildly successful.  Couple that with the fact the previous NBA team in Charlotte left under bad circumstances, and it's easy too see why the fan base is apathetic, at best.

The Hornets were fairly well supported back in the 90's, but it didn't last.  I think the NBA ought to get out of there.  Doubt MJ will ever move them as long as he owns them though.

With all the money MJ has, he really would be well served to hire to legitmate front office personnel.

Putting a winning team is the only hope for viability in Charlotte.  When the Hornets were in their hey-day, with Alonzo and the Gran-mama, they had pretty good support.

Only a 3 point game; just need to buckle down on defense and we got this.
More concerned 'bout barbosa, hopefully it's more being cautious and he can come back soon. Love his game this season for us.

In watching the game on my iPad and can only get the Charlotte feed. The bobcats announcers are terrible. They sound like two guys auditioning for a job. And they wouldn't get it either.

Ridiculous statements all game long.

Mmm no...can't think of a better defender on walker or sessions than Bradley ..the height advantage lee supposedly has is overrated, look at them stand next to each other and there ball handling is about equal but doc clearly favors Bradley in this regard..he has him more in the pg role then lee

Bradley is a better defender and player

Every time Tanguay teases the post game segment where Marshall gives his opinion it lets me know I need to change the channel right after the game.

Marshall explains why this is a good pace, even though the entire win streak they have been playing at a faster pace. Tanguay is awful and Marshall is only slightly better.

Sessions doesn't get a wide open shot if Bradley doesn't get hurt. Hope he is Ok too.

Ugg worst possible outcome.  We play KG and PP big minutes, we blow a small lead at the end and lose a game we probably would have lost if we had just sat KG and PP.  All of our last few possessions ended in tough jump shots.  We should know by now that if we are up by 1 or 2 or down by 1 or 2, we need to attack the rim.  I hate losing on jumpshots by KG and PP when we know their legs are dead tired.

Tired legs typically show up after halftime in a situation like this

Yup

pathetic excuse. we simply stopped what worked the last 7 games.

honestly, after last night you kind of saw a loss tonight coming...

the dissapointing part was that this was a game we couldve/shouldve won.

some poor officiating had a part to do with it.

but im still sitting here wondering why Doc took out the guy with the hot-hand, our Leading Scorer for the 4th quarter?

Why did Doc give up on Courtney Lee too?

Bradley is better and he wanted jets shooting?

I ain't even mad though.

Tough loss. But we know how good this team is now.

So I'm pretty confident in the next couple of games.

If there is to blame, it has to be Doc, Bass over Green, really? When Green is dominating early like that, you have to let him play.

Same! TP for optimism

To beat us it took bobcats players having great nights by their standards, absolute garbage referees, and a terrible rotation by doc.

Ain't nobody got time to dwell on this.

I view Doc as a top coach...but if he has a flaw, to me IMO its he sometimes makes strange rotation decisions.

when you have a guy who is dominating offensively on a night when you have tired Vets...why not run him more?

That Mullens kid was playing out of his mind.
Plus some bad officiating.
We still kept it close and even had the lead in the final 2 minutes of the game.
Poor rotation, poor selection of subs e.i. Bass over Green.

Lets not mope, lets get the next one!

That KG statement didn't sound good. At first I thought it was tape of the Rondo aftermath.

Something along the lines of we got the word when we came into the locker room that he (LB) was done.  KG was visibly bummed.
