The Atlanta Hawks are entertaining trade offers around the league for forward Josh Smith, but have yet to decide whether they will deal the ninth-year forward, according to league sources.
The Hawks met with Smith's representatives this week and reiterated -- as they initially offered at the beginning of the season -- that they would be willing to give Smith a three-year deal for around $47 million, according to sources. This is the maximum of what they can currently offer under the new rules of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Smith turned down the offer, however, saying he preferred to play out his existing contract and get a longer deal this summer.
Initially, it was believed that the Hawks had indicated they would not give Smith the five-year max contract he can receive this summer. But sources indicated Friday afternoon that the two sides have not had any discussions about the full five-year deal.
Smith, according to a source, is prepared to move on, outside of the contract discussions.

I wouldn't either.
-
Now we just need him to say he will only go to Boston. ;)

I'm sure Danny is making them an offer. But doubt it happens. Would love to have Smith here though.

Don't like Terry starting. Would hope we could get another PG. But would love to get J-smoove.

Broussard says 60% chance Smith traded and Brooklyn is trying to get him.

I think in this scenario, Barbosa starts... while that isn't ideal, I don't think it's all that bad since we have PP who is more than capable of being an excellent point forward (as he is right now). PP is routinely getting about 7 assists since RR went down (he does it every time RR is out), then add on the 4 assists Smith gets, and that Barbs can handle the ball and get you some assist, that isn't that bad at all. Then next season, if everyone is healthy, WOW.
Thing is, I don't think ATL takes that and could probably get better...

What can they offer?

yup...that's a good question...unless they dump Lopez and sign Howard this summer.
-
Gerald Wallace and Audrey Blatche for Smith works on the trademachine..
Lopez
Smith
Johnson
Gordon if traded
Williams
not bad..Smith would, i think, resign with the Nets
-
Not cool is the Nets get him.
-
Audrey Blatche
Nomination for Autocorrect of the Year.

A deal centered around Marshon Brooks, Humphries, and/or Wallace and some draft picks works
-
Wallace's deal is radioactive for a team looking to rebuild on the cheap, like Atlanta is. Humphries deal isn't much better, although it would expire next year. But there's very little value there. Why spend your cap room on Humphries?
Considering Atlanta already has Brooklyn's 1st rounders for the next couple of years, can't see this deal getting done.

He's not a max player.
IMO, 5 years 70 mill sounds fair.
-
rondo, bass, melo and a 1st
-
Smith is definitely not a max player and would be a poor fit with the celtics as long as rondo is our pg. As other on this board have stated smith is walker wih hops he to often stops playin inside and settles for easy threes had enough of that in the per ainge era.

I would love to see Josh Smith + Brook Lopez together. And Josh Smith + Gerald Wallace. Fun frontcourt. That would be one of the best in the league. Stellar backcourt too.
It'd make Brooklyn a serious title threat if they can pull it off.

Anywhere but Boston

Anywhere but Boston
To the Lakers as the 4 in a D'Antoni offense?
I think you shouldn't trade for Smith unless you are prepared to give him somewhere near a max contract.

I would love him here too but I just dont see a deal that would work for us. We would have to give up a ton to get him.
