Title: riding out the blizzard
Post by: slamtheking on February 08, 2013, 05:40:36 PM
just thought I'd toss out a thread to see how everyone in the northeast is riding out the blizzard of '13.

my story?   glad you asked.

Recently moved from RI to Bristol County Mass and have 'enjoyed' the regularity at which my new hometown loses power over least little weather disturbance.  Cut through 4 power outages in the past 4 months to today's lovely snowstorm.

I'm stunned that after 8 hours of snow, not the 2-4 inch an hour rate they've predicted yet but still a pretty good rate, I still have power.  my directv is in and out but I'm pretty happy about still having power and being able to come to C-Blog to take my mind off my predicted impending doom.

The high point has been when I've put my pups out and watching them go tear-assing around the yard in the snow that's accumulated so far and watching them come back in the house as canine snowballs.  not so much fun getting the snow off them but fun watching them finding new ways to enjoy the snow.

Anyone else out there riding this storm out with something interesting to share?

Born in NE, live in NE, but I wouldn't mind never seeing snow again.

My problem is I can't ski or snowboard to save my life + no snowmobile. So all I do is shovel and drive in it.

That's the good thing about modern travel  ;) ...I can visit snow whenever I want to.  I just really haven't wanted to.

You and me both.   Hate the cold, hate the snow.  Lived here all my life.  I dislike skiing and skating intensely.

In about 30 years of home ownership I have yet to purchase a snowblower.  I shovel my rather large driveway and deck with my now arthritic shoulders.  Looking forward to that task tomorrow.  Sometimes, the timing is right and my neighbor takes pity on me after snowblowing his driveway and he finishes up mine.

My wife enjoys (I'm serious) getting out every so often to push snow off the driveway inch by inch.  Tonight we'll get the big fall in early AM hours so her efforts to clean off what will amount to about 6 inches won't make a huge difference if we get 24 (the prediction for my area).   But, I it will help somewhat.

I am very jealous of all C's fans in warmer climates.  Hope to be there someday.

Very strange flashes of light in the sky.  Never ever seen that during a snow storm before.

well, it's about 11:30 (guessing since a flash of power outage knocked out the clocks while I was outside shoveling earlier).

can't believe it but still have power.  everyone around me is having outages including most of my town.  can only hope my luck continues.

Crews can't even work on the outages de to the wind which is going to cause some real problems for a lot of people.  hope the weather people are over exagerating how long this will last.

a little too early to start celebrating but so far, no power outage.   hard to believe.  hope everyone else dealing with this storm had the same good fortune.
