The New York Islanders have acquired Tim Thomas in exchange for a conditional second rounder in 2014 or 2015.
The Islanders need to get over the cap floor, so even though Thomas won't play this season, his salary has some value to them. Still, it will be interesting to see if the Islanders toll his contract in the hope that he will play for them in 2013-14.

Absolutely loved Timmy during his time here in Boston. Best goalie the B's had since the days of Moog and Lemelin. The run he had, culminating in the B's first cup since the 70's, was a once in a generation type performance.
Personally, I hope he is enjoying his retirement. Never did care for the way the media treated him his last season here. But that's the Boston media for you, bunch of jackasses.
Hats of to Timmy! I'll never forget what he did for the franchise.

I agree with all of this.

Just to add, I really hope the Bruins put his number in the rafters. He deserves it.

I thought Tim was just taking a year off? Was he really retired for good?
Why trade the guy and not get a 1st rounder in return? He's virtually one of the top net minders in the whole game, no?

It's hard to get a first rounder for an older player who may never play another game (and who at least is gone for the year).

This was a excellent move by the Bruins. Thomas wasn't playing this year, and Rask is the top man now. Also, he wasn't playing but still counted $5M against the cap!!
Very exciting times for the Bruins, they have $7M+ of cap space and if they LTIR Savard, can go up to $11M!!

Yes, it was an excellent move by the B's. They're going to need the cap space to re-sign guys like Seguin, Horton and a few other of their own players. Might give them room to even add another player as well.

any way we can get Tim back?

I understand we're better with an empty net, but we do need to have six men on the ice.
