Key Matchups
(http://i.cdn.turner.com/si/.e1d/img/4.0/global/basketball/nba/players/3253.jpg)  vs  (http://i.cdn.turner.com/si/.e1d/img/4.0/global/basketball/nba/players/4136.jpg)
Paul Pierce vs Rudy Gay
Rudy Gay has settled in with the Raptors quickly, shooting 50% for 20 points against the Clippers on Friday, and following that up with 48% shooting for 29 points against the Heat on Sunday.  Paul Pierce will have the chore of trying to slow him down in this one while he continues to give the Celtics assists, rebounds and points as they need them.

 (http://i.cdn.turner.com/si/.e1d/img/4.0/global/basketball/nba/players/4484.jpg)  vs  (http://i.cdn.turner.com/si/.e1d/img/4.0/global/basketball/nba/players/4614.jpg)
Courtney Lee vs DeMar DeRozan
DeRozan is the Raptors leading scorer (other than Gay) with 17.6 points per game.   He might not find scoring quite as easy against the Celtics' pit bulls in the back court.

Keys to the Game
Rebound -  The Celtics have got to crash the boards to prevent second chance points.  Rebounding takes effort and when they aren't winning the battle of the boards, they aren't putting the effort out in other areas either.  The Celtics may be ranked next to last in rebounding but they have proved that when they really want them, the Celtics can grab rebounds.

Defense -  The Celtics must make defense their first priority in each and every game.  They have once again found their defensive identity and their recent surge is the result of that.   They need to play tough defense and lock down the Raptors.  A nice blow out win would be nice since this is the first of back to back to back games and defense is what will give the starters some rest for the next game which happens to be against the hated Lakers.

Run and Pass - The Celtics need to continue to advance the ball with the pass instead of walking it up the court.   They also have to continue to run and move the ball to get easy shots before the defenses can get set up.

Be Aggressive and Stay Focused - The Celtics must be the more aggressive team in going after loose balls and rebounds and in going to the basket.  They also have to stay focused.  They have been letting up and allowing teams to get back into games.  They have to keep their focus and their aggressiveness for 48 minutes and not let up.

Game Notes
The Celtics head to Toronto for the 2nd of 4 meetings with the Raptors.  Their first meeting in November resulted in a 107-89 home win for the Celtics.  The Celtics are 3rd in the Atlantic Division, 7.5 games behind the Knicks.  The Raptors are last in the division, 7.5 games behind the Celtics.

Both teams have been off since Sunday and should be well rested.  Boston has won their last 4 games while the Raptors are coming off a loss to the Heat.  The Celtics are 4-6 in their last 10 games, having lost 6 games in a row before their recent 4 game win streak.  The Raptors are 3-7 in their last 10.    The Raptors are a decent team at home with a 12-12 record at the Air Canada Centre.  The Celtics have struggled a bit on the road with just a 7-14 record away from the Garden.

This marks Leandro Barbosa's firs game back to the Air Canada Center since he was traded by the Raptors in March.  He played in 100 games over 2 seasons for Toronto.  The Celtics tend to let up against the bottom teams but they need to stay focused and try to get an easy win in this game and let the starters get some rest since they face the Lakers on Thursday.

X-Factors
Focus on the Road
The Celtics have struggled on the road this season.  They need to come out focused and stick to the game plan that has gotten them 4 wins in a row.  For veteran players, playing on the road should not cause them to lose focus.

DeRozan has a much improved post game this year. It might be difficult to get away with the small backcourts while DeRozan is out on the floor.

I think Doc should go big with Pierce / J.Green together against Gay / DeRozan when Courtney Lee needs a rest. Avoid those small backcourts. Or if Lee struggles, go to Pierce / Green as first choice wing combination against Gay / DeRozan.

Yeah, I think this is one of those matchups that Green can handle, or maybe even Pierce.  Not a shooter so he won't make them pay for playing off a little.

Bargnani (elbow) is a game-time call for Wednesday's contest against Boston, TSN 1050 AM reports. (about 2 hours ago)

http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/2987/andrea-bargnani

Interested to see what the Raps frontcourt rotation is come Wednesday.  Not sure that Bargnani & Valanciunas can play for 20 minutes combined yet.

Add that to Amir Johnson & Aaron Gray's propensity to foul and you have yourself some issues.

Holy Smokes!  Is that an 80's Caprice Wagon in that photo?

What are the chances one of those is still on the road, and in of all places, Canada?  Do they not use road salt up there or something?

Garnett should cause the Raptors a lot of problems. Aaron Gray is a slow footed and incompetent defender away from the basket. Garnett's high post game and Bass' spot-up shooting should do a great job of unsettling the Raptors team + interior defense.

Haven't liked Bradley much with the ball on his hands during this win streak. Not moving the ball, forcing shots, etc. A couple of nice plays here and there, but he's hurting us more than helping us.

Toronto should have Amir on KG and Gray on Bass. Gray will still be a liability but at least Bass is less of a threat than Garnett is.

There is something sad about watching KG try to beat Gray off the dribble.

No complaints other than the fact that this is an extremely boring game. I give credit to the Celts. They can only play the teams that are on their schedule, but the schedule has certainly been kind to them since the Miami game. I mean the game tomorrow night will be like a D-league team against the Celts given no Pau and likely no Howard. Should be a blowout tomorrow and looking forward to seeing KG go over 25,000 points!

Raptors are simply not a good team at the moment! They have lots of prospect for the future, but right now they're not even close to being a playoff team...

Having said that, we might still lose this game, easily! Raptors are the kind of team who're getting hot now and then during a game, and if it wasn't for Lee to begin with and Pierce later, we'd have to dig ourselves out of a hole at the half...

A major high post threat to a guy who doesn't even need to be defended. Raptors defense looks so much more comfortable with Garnett out of there.

G: Terry vs Lowry
G: Barbosa vs Anderson
F: Lee vs DeRozan
F: Green vs Gay
C: Pierce vs Bargnani

There is nobody there that Bargnani can guard. Gotta attack Bargnani.

I think Barbosa has a nice advantage against Alan Anderson too.

Doc's rotations are killing this team.

You couldn't play small with Sully and Bass together, what in the hell makes him think Bass as the 5 with Green at the 4 will find ANY success, particularly against Toronto who's clearly been taking advantage since the first quarter of our small ball units.

There is the run. Toronto should have changed their lineup when Garnett came back. Running Bargnani out there as the sole big against a KG lineup is a bad idea.

KG has been so clutch for us over the years. Anyone who says he isn't clutch offensively and defensively has not watched KG since he has been on the Celtics.

I can't speak of Minny since I didn't watch him every second there but since he's come here he has been extremely clutch.

Re-check completed. 1 more board the P-Dub.  And more turnovers. And 24 shots to get 25 points. All for a more than beneficent contract for however many years.

Hard to do that though with PP and Ray Allen

We were tied both times.

KG has been so clutch for us over the years. Anyone who says he isn't clutch offensively and defensively has not watched KG since he has been on the Celtics.

I can't speak of Minny since I didn't watch him every second there but since he's come here he has been extremely clutch.

Sixers game-winner. Anyway I think it doesn't matter if it's tied or not. Clutch is clutch.

I guess it's more that people say that he is "un-clutch" or shrinks in the moment which is just laughable. He hit a huge clutch shot tonight (actually a bunch) who cares if it was with 20 seconds or 30 seconds left? I don't even know how much time was left cause it's such a stupid thing to even look at.

How many has he hit? How many has he missed? How often was his name called? What qualifies as a game winner? Is it the go-ahead shot? Or does it need to be the shot to go ahead and then then other team misses?

We also had Pierce and Ray taking less than 20 seconds on the clock shots as well which no one can really fault Garnett for.

But as others have mentioned before, things like leading the team in 4th quarter scoring during the playoffs of the title run in 08. Just like tonight 13 points in the 4th quarter.....cluuuuuutchhhhh

Cs versus GS last year. It was in all of the commercials. Or how about the alley-oop against Philly during the regular season last year. Just to name two.

Well here is a list excluding the last few years of game winning baskets.

http://www.82games.com/gamewinningshots.htm

So you can at least point to those (and a fer more since)
Please don't point to the FG% unless you want to include Kobe and Wade in the None clutchness category.

Also my favorite part of that list....Pierce 1st in game winning assists.

KG is definitely clutch! Don't get me wrong! Those consecutive threes years ago in Minny will go down in the books forever!
I just want him to shoot a game winner when we're down by 1 with five seconds to go. Pierce always gets it, I wanna see KG! He can shoot over every player in the league and is deadly from any spot in the three-point line. Give him a chance! Just once when he's in green!

I didn't say he was not clutch.

By the way, those stats are only up to 4 years ago.
I'm primarily referencing his time in Celtic green!

Also my favorite part of that list....Pierce 1st in game winning assists.

First out of players who have hit 4 or more game winners in said time range.

If someone got 10 assists but no game winning shots, he wouldn't be in the list.

I'd be surprised. Although i was looking for this stat for a while the other day and this is all i could find

That was a set play, very high percentage, and designated.

I was kind of referring to just him isoing and making a clutch jumper..

KG rarely isos so I don't know why we would even expect him to iso for a last shot/game winner... that's for PP to do. Ray Allen's game winners weren't isos either. I'm sure KG has had very few opportunities to even get the last shot (especially the past few years with PP and Ray on the team).

Oh. And one more thing about this game that I don't know if y'all realized.

If we go back to losing ways, and Raptors finish off season much stronger (with Gay) and we somehow are close in records by the end of the season (for the 8th seed), we just won the series.

I hope it doesn't ever come to this though! ;)
