Game day is finally upon us.
Thoughts? Predictions? Analysis?
Niners 24 Ravens 20
I expect a tight one and lower scoring than most pundits are predicting. I just think, in the end, Niners D is a little bit better and they'll be able to grind it out on the ground in the end.
Tough to be going against a team that has been catching all the breaks (ala destiny) like Baltimore, though.
-
Not really too concered with who wins, I just don't have any strong dislike of either team.
Hopefully this will be an exciting game. And hopefully my squares come up. I have (SF-7/Bal-6)(SF-4/Bal-9)//(SF-2/Bal-3)(SF-3/Bal-0).
My predictions:
1st qtr: 7-6 SF
Halftime: 14-9 SF
3rd qtr: 17-16 SF
Final: 30-23 Bal
Gimme that MONEY!!!

I don't really have any thoughts. I just got back from New Orleans a couple days ago, though. I was out there filming some behind the scenes stuff at the Superdome for my company. It was pretty crazy over there. I got to tour the stadium and also shoot some stuff at the media center. Had a ton of fun.
I posted while I was there that I was in a quiet little dive bar from the 1700s at like 2 in the morning and the only other people there were Bill Simmons, Rembert and a few of their friends (possibly also Grantland employees). I introduced myself to Simmons (I'm a huge fan)... shook his hand and told him I was a Celtic fanatic as well. He said, "We've had a rough week"... they were on their way out, unfortunately. I asked if I could get a picture with him (since I happened to have a camera on me) and he said, "I'm not supposed to be here". Not sure what he meant by that since the fact he was in Nawlins was all over his twitter feed. Oh well.
I made up for it (sort of) a night later by going into a little jazz club on Frenchmen Street. I was told that's where the locals go (outside of the French Quarter)... Great music. Then I spotted Neil Patrick Harris. Introduced myself to NPH, talked to him briefly and asked for a pic. He was super friendly and agreed. Unfortunately, my coworker took the pic and it came out terrible. Hah. Andrew Luck happened to be at the same club. I would have talked to him, but I don't know crap about the NFL. I didnt' even recognize him until my coworker pointed him out. So basically, I spent all night dancing on the dance floor with Andrew Luck and Neil Patrick Harris. Fun times.
Here's some random pics I took.
(the woman who keeps reappearing in pics is our director of marketing that I traveled with)

I have so little rooting interest in this game. Someone please give me a reason to like or dislike one of these teams. I tend to dislike the whole Ray Lewis thing, but also dislike Jim Harbaugh and Kaepernick has not appealed to me in interviews.
I suppose I can just root for a good game. I find the pomp of the Superbowl irritating. Haven't watched a halftime in years. The commercials don't usually do much for me.
Maybe I'll read Grisham instead.
-
Reason to like the Niners if you're a Pats fan... Randy Moss.
I like the Niners in this game for that reason, as well as the fact that I have family from the area that are huge Niners fans
-
would prefer a Niners win simply because I'm sick of Ray Lewis
-

Moss isn't a plus for me. He had a great season with the Pats, but that season ended in the biggest disappointment of all time (other than the '87 and 2010 Celts). Seeing Moss is just a painful reminder.
-
Are those tears Ray Lewis? That settles it, I'm rooting for the 49ers.
-
Only 45 minutes til kickoff
-
Ravens!
-
I hate the way the game keeps getting in the way of the commercials
-
library ad was purdy funny
-
The GoDaddy commercial kinda summed up my life
-
Flacco looking Eli Manning Super Bowl-ish
-
Ravens pocket breaking down frequently in that drive. Not a good sign for them.
-
Such a costly fumble by James. Niners were rolling before that mistake.
-
Ravens offense surprising, despite what we saw last week. Carving through SF the way they carved thru NE in the 2nd half.
-
Such a costly fumble by James. Niners were rolling before that mistake.
Niners do make some big turnovers
-

And another.
-
Half can't end soon enough for SF.
-

Niners do make some big turnovers
No question about it - I feel foolish for getting my hopes up for this game. They made critical mistakes against the Giants last year, and they made mistakes against Atlanta even though they managed to win that game. Horrible turnovers. I know there's still a ton of game to be played, but it doesn't look good.
-
Wow, what a stupid fake field goal. Take the 3 points, this is the SUPER BOWL.
I'll take it.
-

yea could come back to haunt them if san fran would stop shooting themselves in the foot.
-
Ballsy but absolutely stupid! Gave away 3 points in the Superbowl. 9ers survive the interception giving up nothing.
-
If Kappernick keeps up this play do you think about going to alex smith at some point ?
-
If Kappernick keeps up this play do you think about going to alex smith at some point ?
Don't think so IMO, Kappernick got SF to the Super Bowl... it's his game to win or lose.
-
If Kappernick keeps up this play do you think about going to alex smith at some point ?
Wouldn't that be something
-
Cary Williams is lucky that he didn't get anything for pushing the ref when they were fighting.
Also the 49ers and their turnovers are gonna hurt them.
eta: Baltimore has another touchdown.
-
Oy vay
Niners are pooping themslelves
-
turn out the lights
-
gotta get a td before the half or it's over
-
Well, a 15 point deficit is anything but insurmountable, but it feels like the 49ers are on life support right now. What a terrible half of football. It's going to take a tremendous defensive effort to pull out a comeback.

or a big turnover/punt return
-
San Fran DBs pretty much giving up. They should probably ask some of their receivers if they'll consider playing DB, or this could get even uglier. At the rate they're going they better leave the DBs off the plane for the ride home. "Oh I'm sorry. This plane ride is only for members of the 49ers. That played in the Super Bowl".

You got the wrong bowl, that's Hyper-Bowl ;D
-
Beyonce's thighs are so big the 49ers should probably suit her up at DE just to see how that goes
-
I still think Lady Gaga and Pink would rock the Super Bowl. They probably told Gaga "No wardrobe malfunctions" and she said "I'm an artist. Go f yourself."
-
I can't believe Sir Mixalot didn't jump into Beyonce's half time show.
-
Well, proud to say that I didn't watch half-time for the umpteenth consecutive year.
I'll state the obvious: A Ravens scoring drive here puts the Niners on the ropes and dazed.
-
Unreal. This game is over.

Well,
It wasn't a drive!

Unbelievable.
To think that this team without question should have been done in Denver.
-
Let's go Ravens!

(See Hawks, Atlanta)

This is like the equivalent of watching Hitler march into Austria unopposed. Somebody get the Von Trapp family out of here.
-
What the heck?
Blackout?

Huh?

Not a valid comparison. SF wasn't playing nearly this horribly against Atlanta.
-
Between the Ravens dominance, the worse than usual commercials, and Beyonce's "half time show" I rate this Super Bowl somewhere in the vicinity of getting teeth pulled or listening to Bill Maher talk. The only thing that can save it is playing in the dark, which is what we've always wanted
-
What the heck?
Blackout?
Huh?
Huge break for Niners if they decide to play the rest of the game in the dark.
-
**** I was joking when someone asked who I wanted to win this game, and I said is it possible for them to play to an endless draw so neither will win. I hate both teams.
I should have wished for a blackout. ****
-
Plenty of light to play football. Plenty. Just shine something off Beyonce's thighs.

Stupid commentators thinking that this blackout will benefit the 49ers. What, halftime wasn't enough time to regroup?
-

Well it can't possibly hurt. Gives them time to eat wheaties and stuff

I don't want to hear a thing these talking heads have to say.

Wheaties might help, but better yet have the 49ers go back into the locker room and smoke some rock. Or use deer spray. Anything!

-

Guess it's 3rd and 14. SF needs to convert.
-
That was hilarious
-
SF defense and Raven offense will have been off the field for an hour and a half (or more depending on what SF does after this delay).
-

Translation - Please keep watching. This game isn't over...
Lol whatever. Its OVAH!!!!
-
Power outage? Seriously?
-
I think SF should play hurry up -- especially given the delay. Not sure if Colin can do it -- but try to wear out the D. Old legs adjusting twice to long delays.
-
49ers with a pulse.
-
not over yet boys.......
2 possession game
-
3 and out here
Come on Niners!
-
Nice!
-
BIG SACK!
LETS GO NINERS!
-
Wowzers
Tons of time to play

THIS IS A GAME! TEDDY GIN JR!

Game is now officially non-over.

oh I would love to see nothing more than ray lewis go off as a loser of the biggest come back in superbowl history!
-
That's what I'm talking about. Power outages, deer spray, and wheaties, just what the doctor ordered. 49ers back in it!
-
I thought it was over and would be a blowout... I was wrong.
I'm from California so I'm with the 49ers tonight. I hope those early turnovers don't bite them in the butt.
-
oh my god 49ers with the fumble recovery !
wow :o
-
YEAAAAAH! Ravens fans must be sick to their stomach right now. Huge fumble.
-
Yikes
What a swing

Go for it on 4th and 2

I don't buy it.
They got the Niners right off the field after play resumed.

Wow, big red zone stop by the 49ers.
-
Kappernick!!!!!!!!! td

Let's tie this up baby. What does SF run here?
-
[dang]nnnnnn
I Have a feeling it is going to come down to an Akers field goal attempt.....

That would be cruel. I hope not.

Gotta throw that thing somewhere where someone has a chance of catching it. No risk of a turnover.

I hope that doesn't happen.
-
Boldin is terrific.
-
Here we go, what a finish !
Come on Kappernick , lets do this!
Calling it now, Kappernick will win it on a last second run beating ray lewis to the corner of the endzone . ;)
-
If the 49ers keep playing well they can take this game and if they do... woo that would be an epic collapse by the Ravens.
-
3 plays to get 7 yards. Roll out Colin -- something will open up.
-
Niners do some stupid stuff
but I guess everyone does
-
We need Doc Rivers for an out of time out play.
-
looked like a catch and a fun\mble
-
Gotta hand it to both teams. SF came back and Ravens held on.
-
looked like a catch and a fun\mble
I thought so too. Should have been at the 2.

I disagree with Boomer; that was clearly a hold.

worst officiated championship game since the Ohio State/Miami game way back in the day

I barely watch football. But since I like Ray Lewis, I'll root for the Ravens
-
May as well take the safety here.
Nah. That makes it a 3 point game. Never mind.
-
If the Ravens win, we can all look forward to highlights of Ray Lewis claiming God has blessed him and his teammates over the rest of the league. Wonderful.
-
SF should call a fair catch and take a free kick from the spot they receive it for a FG
-

I wonder if we'll get to see his 6 kids and four baby momas run onto the field to hug him

stupid Ravens

Oh gee. Ray Lewis is crying. Who would have ever thought?

pretty sure that's just allergies...the guys been exposed to a lot of stuff
-
and yes this does officially make Joe Flacco a better QB than both Dan Marino and Peyton Manning and Brett Farve. He's totally the MVP. If they give it to Ray I'll puke
-
And it's totally bogus that the Showgirls claimed the coke. Edited. Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.?
I hereby refer to this year's game going forward as the Referee Bowl. I put it in a similar category to the year that I consider the Kings to have been NBA champions
-
I knew that second quarter would hurt them. If they would have shown up before the third it would be a different story.
Baltimore came to play and to win so I have no gripes with them winning. Also I like Ray Lewis, but I know Ray will be crying and will show out tonight.
-
Did he just say "For OJ?" What on Earth? Is Ray busting him out?
-
9 playoff wins and a Superbowl title. Peyton Manning, Kurt Warner, and now Joe Flacco.
-
Did he just say "For OJ?" What on Earth? Is Ray busting him out?
lol yea, then that scumbag murderer says, if god is for you,who can be against you? what a human being....
-
Yay Ravens!
-
SF was robbed. It is now acceptable to hold a receiver from yard 5 of the pattern to yard 10+ of the pattern. Truly a LOW point for the league.
Why do they not give each coach at least one play where they can ask for a TV replay in the last two minutes and in OT?? Why would the NFL not want something like this so they don't look like the fools that they now look like.
Sad night for the NFL.
Smitty77
Would have been first and goal on the 2.5 yard line with about 1 minute and 40 seconds to go. Unbelievable.
-
I totally agree eja117!!! The Referee Bowl!!! Love it!! Nice call.

There was a monster no call hold on one of kaps runs during that last drive. They canceled each other out.
-
I think just as big of a botched call was the no-call offside on the ravens on that two point conversion attempt.
If San Fran converts that after a penalty putting the ball on 1, then they dont have to score a touchdown on that last drive. They can kick a field goal at the 15 yeard line and take the game to OT
-
My Niners got robbed!

Mz B...
ill put a ring on it

Funniest part is...
Think of all the foreigners who only watch one American event a year: the Super Bowl. They get the impression that America is an epic fail and their biggest event even has a huge power outage that takes forever to fix. This made America seem even worse to the outside world. FAIL lol

I agree—that was a bad no-call. But let's take the whole game into consideration: if the Niners hadn't played like a JV squad the entire first half, they probably win that game easily.
The penalty on their first play of the game to negate about a 15-yard gain.
James's fumble.
Culliver giving up that 30-something-yard reception down the sideline after it appeared the Niners would either sack Flacco or force him out of bounds.
Culliver giving up that ridiculous long touchdown.
Niners offsides penalty on third down, which led to a do-over on which Baltimore scored its first touchdown.
Let's face it: the Niners were brain-dead in the first half (and I wanted them to win).

Yes, the Ravens were killing them in the first half and into the third, just like Ray Lewis killed those two in Atlanta in 2000.

I agree.
But just because a team plays bad in the first half, DOES NOT mean that you can not give them an OBVIOUS defensive holding call.
I mean imagine if a ref said that. "Well the Niners had so many other chances to win the game, we figured that this call wouldn't make any difference in the outcome of the game."
The bottom line is that no matter how bad they played in the first half, Crabtree was held to prevent the TD. THere is no way to excuse that.
-
Tough night for 49ers fans. Four tries at the end zone to pretty much seal the win and they couldn't get it.
-
Pretty boring 1st half but heckuva entertaining 2nd half. AFC finally gets one back after a few years.
Remember when every year the Super Bowl was a blowout? Now a whole generation is experiencing year after year of close, tight Super Bowls.
-

This, they didn't deserve to win after that. Horrible play calling as well. The ravens got a well deserved championship. Flacco came through for his team. Which is more than i can say for the "GOAT" tom brady.

And the refs blew a crucial call in the end zone.
it was dirt on both ends..
40 winers was just a lil bit more dirty.
officiating was fair
I guess i'm just being a sore loser here but that was clearly a hold. Crabtree's jersey was in the DB's hands. I understand that my Niners shot themselves in the foot early, but that flag could've changed the whole thing.
Like Skip Bayless said, it is a "let em play" scenario, but when it's that obvious, you call it.
It's as clear as Kobe elbowing Mike Bibby.
BTW, Chris Culliver was was flagged on the same penalty (same play to, he had Boldin's jersey) in the 1st quarter on 3rd down, which resulted in a touchdown BTW, but they miss that holding on Crabtree? Am I saying that the refs sided with the Ravens, of course not. But they can't miss that call, just cant!
(i didn't even include the Roughing the Kicker, which they said was "touching the kicker).

and Crabtree had has hand in the face of the DB and pushed off. Defensive holding is probably called if Crabtree isn't pushing off and committing offensive pass interference.

then they should have flagged both. point is, there was a clear foul (maybe fouls) and they let them play.

Were the Ravens the luckiest team to ever win, they got like every bounce and break.

Pivotal moment? 109-yard run by Jones.

plenty of calls and bounces went against them (or at least non-calls). Clear pass interference against Smith early in the game was not called. Flacco was hit at least a full yard out of bounds (should have been a penalty). Missed the fake FG run by a yard. 3rd and goal from the 1, they pass and then kick a FG. Flacco is sacked taking the team out of FG range. With momentum clearly to the Niners, Rice coughs the ball up. etc.
You can do the same thing with the Niners, but it isn't like Baltimore got every call or every break in the game.
