If the C's win 20 games the rest of the season I will eat my computer.
The above quote is from the "bash Rondo" thread, in which an unnamed poster made a pledge to dine on his desktop forum viewing device if the Celtics manage to go 20-18 the rest of the way. The significance of that milestone, I imagine, is that 20 more wins would get them to 41 wins, meaning they'd finish with exactly a .500 record.
Whether or not the Celtics would make the playoffs even if they are not at or above .500 is another discussion; my feeling is it's possible they might still get in due to the pathetic state of the Eastern Conference, but who knows. He would have to fill a bowl with some premium dip and pig out on some microchips either way!
Here's the remaining schedule for the Celtics:
vs. Kings
vs. Orlando
vs. Los Angeles (Clippers)
@ Toronto
vs Los Angeles (Lakers)
vs Denver
@ Charlotte
vs Chicago
@ Denver
@ Los Angeles
@ Phoenix
@ Portland
@ Utah
vs Golden State
@ Philadelphia
@ Indiana
vs Atlanta
@ OKC
@ Charlotte
vs Toronto
vs Charlotte
vs Miami
@ New Orleans
@ Dallas
@ Memphis
vs NY
@ Cleveland
vs Atlanta
@ NY
@ Minnesota
vs Detroit
vs Cleveland
vs Washington
vs Brooklyn
@ Miami
@ Orlando
vs Indiana
@ Toronto
Things to keep in mind:
1. 20 of the remaining 38 games are on the road versus 18 at home. The Celtics have been pretty bad on the road this season (7-14 versus 14-9 at home).
2. 20 of the remaining 38 games are against teams who currently have worse records than the Celtics currently have.
3. The Celtics face the Heat twice, the Knicks twice, and the Lakers twice. But they face the Bobcats three times and the Raptors three times.
So what do you think? Will he have to eat his computer? If so, how should he go about doing it?
-
He will definitely have to eat it.
-
I sure hope he does.

Reopening on request of the 'unnamed poster'
Ahh and I had already made the other one that avoided any mention of said poster! Well, in any case. Let's discuss.
-
Can you guys (non-mods) vote in that poll?

I still say the C's don't win 20 more or make the playoffs. Remember, Philly gets Andrew Bynum back for the stretch run.
Also, many TPs to IP for opening this as the subject is a very good one. Can the C's make the playoffs and/or win 20 more games. I say no.
And as an aside, microchips have never hurt my digestive system before.

18 home games. What is there 3-4 guaranteed wins. Maybe 3-5 they might wins. There looks to be a guaranteed 8-10 losses there.
And on the road this team could lose to anyone, with or without Rondo. Philly getting Bynum back or Detroit making a move to improve their young core with a productive vet that can lead stands a better chance at making the playoffs than a struggling, aging Boston team losing their top 20 player in the NBA in Rondo.

I believe the celtics will be fine in the regular season without rondo. It won't be till they reach the playoffs and pierce is bricking everything in sight with no star to step up and take over that reality will set in.
-
Yes, it looks like it could be a close call though.

That's my thought, and of course if pierce is moved it all changes.
I think we'll be strong over the next 10, but will fade down the stretch.
-
guys,
WE'RE GOING 38-0!!
-
I bet they win 23 of those games.

Harden-less OKC sweeping the West?

Trying to be as objective as possible, trades and other acquisitions withstanding, 12-26 looks about right to me for a 33-49 final record. Philly, Detroit and even the Raptors given RR injury are dreamin' about that 8th seed. So even games against them are gonna be tougher than usual, and Phil and Det already give us enough trouble!
-
I took another look at the schedule, breaking up home and away.
I did it game by game and I ended up with 11-7 home and 10-10 away. Maybe that's too optimistic. But a lot of the tougher opponents are at home and many of the weaker matchups are on the road.
21-17 is my guess but that assumes the team stays substantially the same. Which seems somewhat unlikely.
If OhioGreen is right and teams like the Sixers, Raptors, and Pistons give the Celtics even more trouble than I anticipated, it could easily be closer to 17 or 18 wins.
-
If I'm an optimist, I see 21 games that we could win.
If I'm a realist, I see 16 or 17.

I'd consider the 3 bolded ones uphill battles on the road. I think all the rest are games they have a chance of winning. Yes, that include Miami and Clips at home, NY home and away and Dallas, Denver and Utah on the Road.
There's too much talent on this team to just assume they have no chance at winning those games. The Miami game finally showed what this team could do on D. I'm hoping it's the start of how they play the rest of the year.

26-12. The Cs always find a way to go on a groove late in the season. It will happen again book it! ;D
-
Sure

Fourty four and Thirty Eight sounds about right. If they can get a New York or Brooklyn pairing, they get to the second round but that will be it and we can take something positive out of the season for it being a bridge year.

TP for the optimism, I think they win exactly 41 and end up at .500 on the season.
