They don't need to blow it up they are already a lottery team.

How bad does this team suck getting blown out by a bad Detroit and Charlotte team then following it up losing to a horrible Cavs team?? Pathetic

There are no deals this year. Just head into the lottery, hope for some luck. We desperately need some young new talent. Some wings that can score a big. Sign Oden get him going. We need to transition to the new era..

Get whatever you can for everyone not named Bradley, Sully, and Melo. And I mean EVERYONE. Rondo, Pierce, KG, the lot. I'll take draft picks—first or second rounders, doesn't matter really—and any promising young players. This team is going nowhere but down, so we might as well start the rebuild now. Acquire all the assets we can.

Not much.   You just play it out and hope they get it together enough to make the playoffs.   Once the post season starts you hope their experience takes over.   They look bored more than terrible.

A shot blocker would go a long way (Melo). Celtics are missing intimidation factor of a shot blocker. And possibly a decent sized guard/forward. Celtics are really small this year.

And Kyrie Irving absolutely torched Rondo.  For pessimistic naysayers like myself, this game killed two birds with one stone.

But all jokes aside... it's all part of the ups and downs a .500 team.  I feel exactly the same about this team as I did in the offseason.  We'll win half our games and lose half our games.  Didn't read too much into the losing streak and didn't read too much into the win streak.  I refuse to panic until after the trade deadline.  This roster has been broken since day 1.  Now we'll see if we can maybe fix it.

I'd start shopping everybody on the roster with the exception of Bradley and Sullinger.

By shopping, I don't mean what I suspect Ainge normally does, which is say that he's willing to make a deal and then tell people to "make his day."

No.  Get what you can for the players on your roster.  If somebody makes you an offer that will put you in even a somewhat better position 2-3 years down the road, do it.  Point blank.

This team is SO far beyond "win now."  There is no win now.  This team will probably make the playoffs, but only because there's a sharp drop-off after them in the Eastern Conference.

They should get what they can for the role players on the bench and then aim for a lottery pick.  Maybe they can even get a couple other first round picks via trades if they play their cards right, since this draft isn't highly touted.

I'm done with this group, and Ainge should be, too.

The ship has sunk. Unless that sentence gets corrected by Danny Ainge to "A team that has Garnett, Pierce, Rondo and (insert other star player here) is never done. They will right this ship." Then yeah I can see it.

But with the lack of size and awful bench, its over my friend.

I agree with this 100%.  PP and KG have given their all these last few seasons.  Father time is just finally catching up a bit.  I am sure DA's plans are being tweaked as we go along.  I hate to say it, but I have kind of written this year off at this point as well.  I don't really see anything lighting the spark on us like AB did last year.

I just hope that we don't make short sighted trades that improve us a bit this year, but strap us for cap space later thinking we are a real contender.

everyone needs to take a step back...KG/Rondo still are playing like all-stars and Pierce is going through a slump right now.

the problem is ALL of our role-players not named: Bradley, Lee or Sullinger

Bass/Terry/Green are GREATLY underperforming and arent giving us much of everything...these guys were picked up to take the slack off of the big 3, yet they havent done anything.

sure guys like Dooling/Pietrus didnt give you much in the way of scoring..BUT they played defense...Terry, Green etc arent really giving us either

Hate me if you want , but I would have traded Rondo and Bass for Cousins.   I'd gave the KINGS RONDO and GREEN  , in a heartbeat..... so now HOW do you get a LOTTERY pick ?? All I can say the BIGGEST screwup DA may have made is not giving the KINGs who ever thay wanted for Cousins.

Either bring in a new "BIG" for ROndo , or blow it up , and fiddle around for next 23 years .

At least Doc should seat Garnett and Pierce for a game or two, to see what happens, let some young guys shoot, I mean I guess there's nothing left to lose.

Terry/Green were brought in to give us 10ppg off the bench EACH

so far it seems they barely make any impact on the game.

ainge put together a talented group of players..However, talent on paper doesnt make a team. and thus far it just seems like they have no chemistry together.

two of Lee/Bass/Terry need to go for a defensive big...and im leaning towards bass/Terry because lately Lee has provided some solid defense

KG and Pierce are old and worn out, it is what it is.

Rondo needs young horses, but only has Sully and Bradley (who are too young right now).

The rest of the roster is trash.

This team plays with zero heart, passion or effort.  They play like they don't even want to be there.  At this point, I don't think even KG or Pierce can be absolved of this.

The win streak was fools gold, but only in that as fans we should have known the effort they showed was fleeting, and soon enough the team would be back to loafing.  Bradley coming back seemed to spark the team, but once the "adrenaline" wore off, it was back to business as usual.

I HATE this team.  I can deal with losing, but can not deal with lazy, uninterested effort.

the difference is those guys BOUGHT IN to playing defense and putting in the effort. Our new guys havent at all..

its looking like the pieces ainge picked up were just a bad fit...he decided to foregoe defense for more offense off the bench and in turn we got neither.

time to see if we can move guys like Bass/Terry/Green

Geez.. this Extended Window team has MISSED OUT on a lot of possible trades that coula/woulda/shoulda helped us.

JO for David West
Ray for Mayo
Jamal Crawford in place of Ray/Lee/Jet

I still strongly believe this could be a running team with Rondo and without Pierce/KG

If I were Ainge, I'd start a fire sale. Keep Rondo, and everyone else except Sully and maybe Bradley is up for grabs. KG probably wouldn't net us anyone at this stage of his career, so he stays this year and retires next. Fine.

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=aqd3o2t
HUGE TRADE, UNLIKELY TO EVER HAPPEN BUT STILL FAIR

Boston - JSmith, Billups, DeJordan, Turkoglu, Redick
ATL - JGreen, CLee, picks
Orlando - Butler, Bass, picks
LAC - Pierce, Melo, JTerry, Collins, Barbosa

Boston rebuilds. Rondo,Redick,Turk,Smith,DeAnre3000

Atlanta get Lee to replace Lou(torn ACL) and Green fills in rebuild mode for the Hawks.

Orlando save about 6 mil losing Turk and some draft picks.

LAC gets an LA native closer in Pierce, project Melo that could be better than Djordan, and the JET

I know this trade would probably never happen, but it's what I would do if I were the GM(or playing 2k13) b/c I'm tired of seeing this team show glimpses of greatness, then billboard signs of failure.

I've said it before and will keep saying it. Deal Pierce and KG to the Lakers for Howard and whoever else to make the trade work.

Then, extend Howard and hope you can get Josh Smith next summer.

The idea would be to create a new superteam of Rondo, Smith and DH with Bradley, Sully and Green as your COMPLIMENTARY pieces (remember people, you can't build a team around Bradley and Sullinger.)

That's what I would do and start a new era. You're not getting anything out of this current group.

1. Shop, Bass, Green, Terry and Lee for a big man. If we can get a big by only giving up players in this group it will help a lot.
2. See if Pierce wants to stay, if not search for a young big
3. See if Garnett wants to stay, if not search for a young talent.
4. See what the market for Rondo is, if good players can be had we deal him.

any chance we can merge all these into one big over-reaction thread?

Any way you can explain to us how this is an over reaction? This is not last year or 2010. This is a team of mismatched parts, many of which have no interest in doing what it takes to be a Celtic. The green glasses guys are starting to drive me nuts.  This team is garbage.

yeah, you gave up on this team early on last year too.

If I'm Ainge, I stand pat.  Maybe make a small trade for a complimentary big to back-up KG.

Then, just let the season ride out and pray Pierce and KG retire (hopefully the new deal KG just signed only was garaunteed for this season).  After that, it's rebuild time.

Same thing he does every night, try to take over the world...umm, I mean try to find a deal that makes the team better.

Seriously, nothing changes.  Danny is always looking to improve the team, but there needs to be a deal there for him to pull the trigger.

It is not last  year. THis team has no one inside except KG and a talented rookie. This team is soft. This team has a bunch of guys who don know what it means to be a Celtic. Keep living on last year and have fun with it.

I'd argue that our accomplishments last year were pretty overblown as well.   We went on a run towards the end of the lockout shortened season thanks to KG hopping into the rejuvination machine (dropping 20/10 nightly) and the sneak-attack of a complete unknown (Avery Bradley) having the greatest shooting stretch of his life.    Then we beat a Horford-less Hawks team in Round 1... and knocked off the 8th seed 76ers (in 7 games) in Round 2.   Not exactly the stuff of legends.

This team is what it is and it has been this way since Shaq broke.  When you have 3 former superstars and a lot of pride, you can ride on the fumes of former greatness up to a point... but only to a point.

again while we realize that last year was most probably our last hurrah with these guys no need to discredit them. you think the magic did when they beat us in 09? due to KG's injury?lakers in 2010? due to perks injury?it is part of the game. that reasoning can be thrown out by plenty of teams every year. it is a waste of time. let's move on.

what should Danny do?
1. hope like hell he can move JET, Green and Bass at a minimum for decent players/ assets without having to cough up draft picks to get other teams to take them.
2. hope KG and PP see the writing on the wall and call it a career in the offseason.
3. pick the best players available when it's his turn to pick in this year's draft.
4. hope AB, Sully and Melo continue to improve next year and that they get a lucky bounce in the lottery in 2014 where they land the next franchise player.

DA doesn't have to BLOW this team up ...its happening all by itself right before our eyes , just like the Lakers.

Id give up our first rounder to get a big. Mahinmi is fine.

Id tell Doc to sit Paul on some games so he can get rest, and guve Green some more minutes and set up plays for them. I realky believe that Greens case Is just a lack of confidnece issue and once he gets rolling, he'll be good.

Id tell Doc to convice Rondo to stop the matador defense and just play his man.

A team that has Garnett, Pierce, and Rondo is never done. They will right this ship.

Yep. Right this ship into a first round playoff loss. Can't wait.
It's not fun, but the C's need to make the playoffs this year. Sully and Bradley need the experience. 2014 will be the season for the lottery. I'd love to skip the crash, but assets need to be acquired. No we won't get #1, the C's never have that kind of luck, but we can get a talent or two. Trades and FA market in a couple of years... sucks until then.

Why do people keep insisting to trade KG? He's got a no trade clause and if this were blown up he'd just retire.

What makes you think KG wouldn't waive his no trade clause to play with Kobe in LA?

What makes you think Howard wouldn't walk from us after this season. He has 0 interest in Boston.

Rocknroll,

I would hang onto Lee if possible.  Keep Melo.

Yes.  The continued campaign to try to discredit the accomplishments of last year's team is fairly petty and distasteful in my opinion.

While i will not dis-credit anything the C's did last year, Cause that was a hell of a run. This is not the same team. We rely on Jump shots more and more. Everything is pick and pop. Its either KG popping, Bass floating out, or Paul floating beyond the 3 point line. Celtics need to find some big man that actually picks and then rolls. Sully is good but is still a rookie, and we cannot lay our chances on him.

trade Bass, Lee, Terry, Melo, Green for 2014 picks. Let KG and Paul retire in May. Sign Oden. Let the young guys develop and go for broke in 2014.

All except I'd keep Melo. Oden Sully Melo could be awesome in a couple years. Then hope for Wiggins or Parker in 2014.

Any free agents coming along we can afford?

agreed. That is all I am saying. It is why it was so tough to lose last year because we knew that was probably it deep down in our hearts. I guarantee you the magic are not discredited for beating us without KG in 09 and winning the east nor that big fat ring the lakers won is discredited in 2010 because we lost perk. nobody looks back at those things. They just see the championship. would have been the same for us had we won it all last year. nobody would have cared rose was hurt against philly or horford in atlanta.

yes we need a big guy who can post up but another problem is we do not dribble drive/dish or cut enough. not fast break enough for easy buckets in the paint. remember there is more than one way for high % shots. we have some dribble drivers but for some unknown reason are not doing it enough. This reliance on jumpers is suicide. It is crazy.

A) I don't think he has the pieces other teams would want in order to make a trade for a decent big. I mean after watching 41 games what team would be that interested in Terry, Bass, or Green? Maybe Lee as I don't think he's been too bad and has played better as of late. Pierce and Garnett aren't overly tradeable either. Pierce has an awful playoff last year and looks old and slow, and Garnett is certainly not the same player he was.
I'd hate to trade Bradley or Sully so I guess Rondo is the possibility, but I also don't think he's as highly thought of around the league as he is here in Boston. Some of the ideas of what people think they can get for him make me laugh.
B) And this is on Doc, I'd start sitting KG and Pierce out for games. They both look ole and tired. They're a 500 team anyway, so why not rest them so maybe they could help in the games thay play?

Just my thoughts, but I think this team is on it's way down, not back up.

It's TIME to bring up Melo !! We need someone who can play defense and block shots !!
Yess!!! C's has no one in the middle to at least alternate other players shot..Cavs had alot of easy shots close to the basket

Pierce is old and cant run like he use to. Yes, he will have a great game here and there but not every night like he use to. He is not a top player anymore, just have to face it that father time wins all the time!!
