We have an actual ingrained lifetime of hatred for the Lakers... a blood feud rivalry that has stretched for over half a century.
The Heat are just a team Boston fans are jealous of, because they've beaten us two years in a row.
Anyone Celtic fan who hates the Heat over the Lakers is probably a petty crybaby. It's a children's grudge.
You Bron haters think the Heat are your rivals. But you merely adopted that grudge; I was born with hatred for the Lakers, molded by it. I didn't see my first championship until I was already a man in 2008, by then fire from that rivalry was nothing to me, but BLINDING.

I don't really hate the Heat. I just hate LeBron, Wade, and everything I think that franchise stands for.
I will admit it hurt watching them win last year. That was probably more a product of us losing Game 7, though.

Reasons?
07-08 - "We would've beaten you all if Bynum were healthy", lol. ("Some" Laker fans)
08-09 - Default Championship. Pau Gasol outplayed Dwight in the finals, for crying out loud.
09-10 - We all watched helplessly as Kobe and Pau played Volleyball with the pill. A courageous (but tired) Sheed....Perk in his suit and Green tie on the sideline looking helpless...KG limping on one leg - none of them were enough.
You could teleport THIS YEAR'S Rondo back to 09-10 and we would've beaten LA then.
That's why as much as I'd love ONE MORE SHOT at LA in June 2013, I wouldn't shed a tear if the Spurs, OKC or MEM put them out of playoffs - OR they don't make it at all.
That is why I will ALWAYS cherish that 132-91 shellacking that BOS put on LA in 07-08...no matter what happens from here on out.
That was just priceless.

Well, I really used to like Wade and Ray.
On the other hand, I've always really hated LeBron. I hate that he's allowed to travel. I hate that he can get completely out of control and then just throw the ball over everyone's head and Wade will catch it. I hate that the few times a guy plays good defense against him the refs bail him out with FTs. I hate that he's never called for a foul when he gives the exact same contact that got him to the line on the other end. I hate that he's compared to Bird or Rondo as a passer because he gets double teamed and then gives it to a wide open shooter or layup for an 7 assists a game.
It goes on.

I hate Miami, but, if Miami were to play the Lakers in the finals, I'm going for Miami 10/10.
I'd almost go as far to say that I hate New York more than Miami too.
Lakers is, and always will be the clear #1 most hated team for me, that's a no-brainer for me.

I actively root against both teams with almost as much passion as I root for the Celtics. If they met in the finals, there could be no satisfactory outcome.

Its just... that uniform...ugh...
I used to HATE Shaq when he was on the Lakers. Rooted against him all the time. Its just when any player wears that uniform, they immediately become the enemy
But as soon as Shaq got traded to Miami, he became the loveable guy I enjoyed watching. That should be your answer

Miami. I just wasn't a celtics fan back in the 80's or earlier, so the extent of the rivalries that I've witnessed as a fan are stronger and more recent against Miami. Miami's recent antics (the decision, "not 5, not 6, not 7", wade's punk acts, bosh's disgusting screams and faces, ray's free agent signing) since I've been a fan are far more loathsome as well. They've even managed to make me dislike Shane Battier.
But I expect that in 6 years, it will be the Lakers or perhaps some other team that has fostered a new rivalry with Boston nearing the level that Miami is at. I thought that level was previously unimaginable -- I think we're witnessing something in Miami that might be very unique in the history of basketball -- so it will very likely be Lakers.
Much respect to the traditional celts fans though who hate Lakers more no matter what.

LeBron, Ray, Bosh, and Wade...hard to make me hate a team any more but Kobe, Artest (World Peace), and Dwight certainly make a strong case.

The thing is: Lakers are an arch enemy. You want them to lose as much as possible.
But the Laker thing is a franchise thing. It's very, very personal with the Heat.
And then there's the history. The Heat are *nothing* compared to the combined Celtic/Laker legacy. Both of us own them in every possible area, historically.
The heat are a thorn in the side, but the Lakers... they're pure evil.
Oh, and I want to mention the word "classy". I think our Laker rivalry is more classy than the one with the Heat (for as far as the Heat one can be called an actual "rivalry"!)

Here's how I see it.
The Lakers are a respectable albeit evil franchise. The Miami Heat are just a bunch of crap flinging babies who I honestly can't stand. I hate Lebron and Wade with a passion. I really don't mind Velocibosh too much.

I hate the Lakers, but I'm not prepared for a Heat dynasty and the ensuing glorification of the single superstar being bigger than the game itself. I lived through Jordan's '90s. I have no interest in watching Lebron's '10s. I'll root against that above all else.
It's nothing personal against James. I just don't want to see the game I love turned into more and more of a giant star gaze. I know that the current commissioner wants nothing more than to exalt the individual above the game, but I'm not into that.

As much as I hate the heat and like to see LeBron suck, nothing is better than seeing the Lakers lose.

The Rondo injury, the knucklehead routines of Lebum and Wade, the Ray allen transfer really swayed me into hating the Cheat.
The Lakers, although, an archenemy has my respect during the Magic/Bird era. But this incarnation under Kobe is despised as well.

+1....I have hated the Fakers longer, but my hate for the cHeat is FAR more intense for all your reasons in paragraph #1 and add to that their disingenuous claim to have used the Cs Big Three concept in THE WAY they came together.
That's crap. Our Big 3 came together by us giving up assets.
The cHeat came together by collusion amongst the evil 3 and Riley, the puppetmaster. They gave up NO assets to get them.
The Fakers 2000's iteration, I agree is pretty loathsome, however, as much as Magic Johnson broke my heart with that baby-hook to clinch that Finals game not more than 200 feet from where I sat and on many other occasions, I still respected the guy, even though I rooted fiercely against him and the Spartans in the '79 NCAA championsip game against our boy and the Sycamores, and even more fiercely in the '80s in general.
To me, Magic, behind Russ was the best player ever, and so was pretty hard to hate. (Sorry, MJ, Lenny Bias would've made you a footnote.)
What Magic did as a rook in the sixth game of the NBA Finals series against the '6ers earned my respect for him forever. Because Jabbar was out, Magic started at center and played forward and guard and scored 42, had 15 boards, 7 assists and was the only rookie at the time to have won the Finals MVP as a rookie.
Much respect for Magic, but I still hated Kareem, Scott, Rambis and company.

But this current Laker team I hate very much too, but since they've been losing, they're more of an afterthought.
I really do feel that dissmissiveness of some fans about those who feel passionate about their hate for the Heat quite unwarranted. In the past 5 years, we've met either LeBron or Wade in the playoffs 4 times... with some mutual distaste between us and them, and potential 3 more years of meeting them with the Piece-Garnett duo. LeBron is the closest to a rival Pierce has really had in his career, and we've been eliminated from the playoffs by the Heat twice in a row now in ways many would consider disgusting, including Wade's shenanigans with Rondo.
There's also the Pat Riley connection, and now they have Judas, who pretty much tainted in some ways my memories of our sole championship in 20+ years.
Just because during the 80s an intense rivalry with the Lakers blossomed to its peak (though it had been building up for decades of course) doesn't mean there isn't room for another one, particularly with a team that is closest to home with potential with more frequent meetings with each other.
I also feel that many don't want to admit their hate to the Heat because it feels a bit wrong to hate someone more than the Lakers at times, like a feeling of tarnishing what it means to be a Celtics fan... I feel it myself, but there's plenty to hate the Heat for, and we don't have to be ashamed of it. Screw them.

The Heat are just a basketball team with three of the top 15 players in the league on it. I didn't hate the 90's Bulls 'cause they had MJ, Scottie and Rodman...
Even if they (the heat) did gut their team so two of them could shadily sign there in free agency.

+1, Bud...very well put...and I too don't think that we who have a more current intense hate for the cHeat are sore losers, or crybabies or jealous or not "true" Celtic fans, because of our stance.

The Knicks with Frazier, reed, Bradley in the 70s
No one in the 90s because the C's were bad
