Title: Carmelo Anthony's Supsension?
Post by: timobusa on January 09, 2013, 06:22:45 PM
When Rondo got suspended for "the bump" the NBA only took them 1 day to make a decision. Literally 1 day.

Why aren't there any news of Carmelo getting some kind of fine or suspension, or is the league gonna turn a blind eye on this?

Now, I don't expect the league (ran by dictator stern) to give Carmelo more than 2 days of suspension. That's because 1) The Knicks is his favorite team. 2) Carmelo is an MVP candidate. 3) It's bad for his "business".

But some kind of action must be done, a warning, or a fine.

Anyone else feel the same?

He should at least be fined, but stern doesn't want to screw his fave team

I don't think Melo should be suspended, but he should certainly receive a fine.  Going after players after games (heck, even during the game, when he was like, "I'll see you after this") isn't a good idea.

That kind of conduct is not only dangerous to opposing players, but also to the league's image as a whole.

I agree - especially after viewing the vid on the blog main page.

Carmelo Anthony basically lied when he said that nothing happened.

KG did, too - BUT:

KG wasn't the aggressor, here - Melo was. It was Melo that decided to go wait by the Celtics' bus.

Just WOW.

Kind of smug too. He's saying he doesnt expect anything will happen.

I feel torn because I really like Melo as a player, I always thought he was Paul Pierce 2.0, still do.
But yeah.

Quote
"If you just go off the actual facts of what happened, I don't think anything will happen," Anthony said after practice Wednesday at the Knicks' training facility in Greenburgh. "But I am pretty sure they are going to be calling me just protocol, that's the league's security protocol. When they do, we'll handle it but they haven't so far."

Yeah, I don't think there should be a suspension, but a fine. A huge YES.

Something needs to happen, and this is going to put stern to the test.

He has suspended guys for less (Rondo) or doing something similar (Cousins).  Then on the flipside, he fine Pop for sitting his players on a national TNT game.

Guess who's next game happens to be on TNT tomorrow.  HoneyNutCheerios and the Knicks.

So now does Stern do the right thing and fine and suspend Carmella for what he did regardless of the fact that the next game is on TNT, that all the pre-game discussion will be about the suspension, and that he is essentially benching one of his "stars" on national TV game even after he fined Pop for sitting his stars.

It's an interesting predicament old stern has gotten himself into and you know that he is going to ultimately do nothing or simply hand out a fine after tomorrows game. I've always liked stern, but this may be what finally sways me into believing that stern just does what he wants to do.

Wow, I stand corrected. Stern did the right thing, regardless of the press the NBA will get tomorrow on a nationally televised game.  Good job.  My waivering respect for stern remains intact.

And the bad thing is that these two will probably be starters/players on the ASG.

Talk about Chemistry issues...we might as well give Kobe, CP3 and Co the next ASG win...I'm tired of seeing the West win.

We have the regular rivalry with Wade and LeBron...NOW?

Enter Melo and KG.

Melo KNOWS better than this....whether or not we all agree with what was "allegedly" said...most NBA players know that KG talks MUCH trash.

The BEST PLAYERS EVER talked trash, too:

Jordan...Larry...

Melo will NEVER achieve much in the NBA if he allows KG (or anyone else, for that matter) to get into his head. As the Knicks best player by far - NY needs him.

The game of Basketball is mostly mental...C'mon, Melo!

He deserved it.  He attempted to get at Garnett outside the locker room and then at the bus.  A message needed to be sent.

I don't believe he just wanted to talk either.

I think the TMZ video clearly shows he didn't just want to talk it out.  One game is super light, especially for a repeat offender.

KG is too old for all this on the court he'll kill you obviously but have a feeling at the AS game he will probably be the bigger man, dap him up and tell him my bad "I'm still gonna bust your chops but wont go that far next time." They already made up supposedly.

I agree, but again, Stern loves the Knicks, and Carmelo is one of his "Superstars". There's a clear bias, whether we like it or not.

If Rondo or Garnett or anybody in the celtics did what carmelo did, were looking at 2 to 5 games suspension.

I see your point, but the day KG stops talking trash he might as well hang up his sneakers. He's ALWAYS looking for an edge - and he got one.

That Knick win was SUPER important for BOS..we now have a Chemistry-Enhancing, Momentum-Building three game winning streak.

I'm glad KG did what he thought he had to do...KG sacrificed looking good for the TEAM.

That game was important.

If KG is still playing when he's forty I'd hope he still has his edge, lol.

Rajon Rondo playfully about suspension: “I get suspended for a phone hang-up and people just get away with anything in this league.”

"Just bc I get suspended doesn't mean I'm a bad person ... So why can't I be a peacemaker?" - Rondo on KG-Melo bus confrontation #Celtics

@JCameratoNBA "The fans still love me. They don't really judge me as much as the media does." - Rondo

Absolutely, GF, (TP) ... totally agree with this. KG is a tough competitor, as Larry Bird was, and Larry talked as much trash as anyone in the NBA, (then or now), and backed it up, as KG does.

If Melo can't stand the heat, what the heck is he doing in the NBA?

The fact that the media and Carmelo made anything of this is just absurd, and I absolutely love that Big Ticket got inside Carmelo's head like that, and I hope he continues to do so.

The best win of the year, IMHO, for that and many other reasons.

1 game is appropriate given that nothing physical happened.

I do like how the griping has shifted from "Stern will never suspend his golden boy Melo" (which is weird enough, Melo's caused the league a fair bit of grief over the years) to "Stern would've suspended a Celtic much longer"  ::)

i think he should have recieved a 2 game suspension....it was premeditated (as the mic on the backboard support picked up on saying he would see kg after the game during a free throw), he tried to get into the locker room, and was waiting at the bus.  regardless if anything happened, he made the environment unsafe.

Indeed. But he didn't have to say what he did, that it didn't happen. There are other ways to defend his guy. He did something similar with the "cancer patient" thing:

Quote
Garnett, known as a trash talker, stuck to his usual routine and did not speak to the media before Wednesday’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

He did issue a statement before the game.

“I am aware there was a major miscommunication regarding something I said on the court last night. My comment to Charlie Villanueva was in fact: You are cancerous to your team and our league,’” Garnett said. “I would never be insensitive to the brave struggle that cancer patients endure. I have lost loved ones to this deadly disease and have a family member currently undergoing treatment. I would never say anything that distasteful. The game of life is far bigger than the game of basketball.”

After Boston’s overtime victory over the Bucks, he was asked about his emotions on the court the past two games, but not specifically about Villanueva’s tweet. He also drew a technical along with Andrew Bogut in Boston’s 105-102 victory.

“I’m a passionate player,” he said. “If you don’t like the way I am … I play this way the last 15, 16 years. I leave it on the court.”

One of Villanueva’s tweets read: “KG called me a cancer patient, I’m (mad) because, u know how many people died from cancer, and he’s tossing it like it’s a joke.”

Rivers defended his forward while wondering why someone would need to share in-game comments.

“I actually heard what Kevin said. I was right there, what he really said is in the statement. I’m going to leave it at that,” he said. “I don’t like the whole tweeting thing. I’m going to state that as well. Guys talk on the court. It doesn’t mean they should or shouldn’t. The fact that we’re talking about this, it’s just silly. It really is. We had a hell of a game yesterday and we should be talking about basketball.

“Talking about what the guys said during the game, there isn’t a place. I don’t find a place for it.”
