Game Notes
The Celtics look to stay above .500 as they host the Bucks for their 4th and final meeting in the regular season.   The Bucks have won one game on the road and one game at home while the Celtics won one game in Milwaukee and are looking to tie the series at 2 games apiece.

The Celtics are looking to win their second straight game and their 6th in a row at home.  The Bucks are coming off a loss and hoping to get back into the win column.  The Celtics are 5-5 in their last 10 games while the Bucks are 6-4 in their last 10.  The Celtics are 9-4 at home while the Bucks are 6-6 on the road.

Doc shook things up in the last game by inserting Jason Collins and Jason Terry into the starting lineups.   It worked out well against the Cavs with Collins easing some of the pressure on KG and Terry playing better along side of Rondo.  I expect him to use the same lineup in this game but then again, you never know.

The Celtics need to continue their dominance at home and keep their momentum going as they begin their road trip.  They will have off until Christmas Day with time for rest and practice and so should be able to give a good effort in this game.

Key Matchups
(http://i.cdn.turner.com/si/.e1d/img/4.0/global/basketball/nba/players/4149.jpg)vs(http://i.cdn.turner.com/si/.e1d/img/4.0/global/basketball/nba/players/4615.jpg)
Rajon Rondo vs Brandon Jennings
Jennings is a good young PG who is working to make a name for himself in the league.  Jennings has talked trash in every game against the Celtics.   You might even remember him shouting trash at KG as he was heading to the locker room after a game in his rookie year.  Rondo should look to make a statement here and win this match up in a big way.

(http://i.cdn.turner.com/si/.e1d/img/4.0/global/basketball/nba/players/3333.jpg)vs(http://i.cdn.turner.com/si/.e1d/img/4.0/global/basketball/nba/players/3966.jpg)
Jason Terry vs Monta Ellis
Ellis is capable of putting a lot of points on the board and JET needs to clamp down defensively to try to contain him.    On the other end, Ellis can be a lazy defender at times and it might open up the court for JET to get some easy shots.

Honorable Mention
Jason Collins vs Larry Sanders
In the last game between these two teams, Larry Sanders had 18 points, 16 rebounds and five blocks off the bench.  It's no surprise that he's now in the starting lineup for the Bucks.  Assuming that Doc starts the same lineup as in the last game, Collins should help to limit Sanders from getting to the hoop as much.

Keys to the Game

DEFENSE! -   The Celtics must tighten up their defense and everyone must play their role in the team defense.   The Bucks can put up a lot of points and they also defend well so the Celtics must play tough defense if they want to get this win.

Rebound - The Celtics must crash the boards to prevent the Bucks from getting second chance points.  Rebounding is all about effort and when the Celtics put out the effort on the boards that effort seems to carry over into all the other areas of their game.  They have to
crash the boards as a team.

Limit Turnovers- The Celtics turn the ball over way too much in spurts.   They get a lead and then they get careless and turn the ball over several times in a row.  .  They lose track of their defender and lose the ball to them.  They dribble into traffic and lose the handle.  All of this could be fixed with more focus and discipline on the part of each player.  The Bucks are 3rd in forcing turnovers, forcing opponents to turn it over 16.8 times a game.  The Celtics must take care of the ball.

Bench Play
-  The Celtics reserves have struggled to find their roles and to be consistent.   Jeff Green especially must be more aggressive and play better.  That goes for every player on the team as well, but especially the second unit.

Be Aggressive - The Celtics must be the more aggressive team.  They have to be aggressive going to the basket and not settling for jumpers.  They have to be aggressive on defense and on the boards.  They have to be aggressive in going after loose balls.  Tommy kept yelling for them to be aggressive in the last game and he's right.  That's what it's going to take for them to get back to winning on a consistent basis.

X-Factors

Home Court & Motivation
The Celtics are playing their final home game before their 4 game road trip that begins on Christmas Day in Brooklyn.  Doc has said that they aren't a very good team which should be motivation for them to pick it up a level.   Keeping their home win streak should also be motivation to win this one.

Hopefully the Celtics can get another a win before the world expires .

Did the Mayan 's calendar actually predict Doc would start KG as a PF and Collins as a center.

How are Milwaukee winning games with that lineup? 13 wins and 11 losses.

That has got to be one of the worst starting lineups in the league.

Talk about a spark off the bench, Jeff Green completely changed the dynamic of this game.

PP in attack mode these last few games too, good stuff.

Looking great since I started watching!

I don't know why, but it doesn't bother me as much when Sully and Bass are playing up front if Green and Pierce are on the wing.

Loving how we're playing, even when we were missing those early shots. Lots of weakside movement, a lot of ball movement, and people getting to the hoop consistently.

Rondo battling with both Jennings and Lamb. And Jeff displayed some bad fast break offense by not giving that to Rondo, he made the free throws though so it's ok.

Games like this are why Jeff Green is such a polarizing player.  When he's locked in, he looks special.  But he can just as easily disappear into thin air.

I think with Green we just need to accept that we're paying him for the nights when he plays like a borderline star.

Unfortunately it means we're also subsidizing the nights when he plays like a scrub.

didn't Rondo used to be able to dunk?  I mean he has it wide open there, throw it down Rajon!  It cranks up the crowd man.  Giving it to bass for a soft throw down doesn't jack everyone up as much as if you would have thrown it down.

Rondo can dunk, but it's not so easy for him to come down afterward.

sorry, I was being sarcastic, I guess I should make it more obvious next time haha

Rondo can really dunk.. And dunk hard. I guess he just opts not to because he has a tendency to get pummeled when he dunks on people.

And it can't be easy on the legs. Gotta save those.

wow, poor end to the 1/2 for the C's.  We seemed to be in control the whole 1st half, then some bad D at the end of the 1/2 and it is a close game again.

The calls have been frustrating, but the Celtics have done a really poor job of preventing dribble penetration.  The Bucks have gotten it into the paint A LOT so the Celtics can't really complain about the Bucks getting all those calls.  You play aggressive and you get calls.

It's not like the Bucks have a bunch of stars.

Does it bug anyone else how inconsistent Rondo is on defense?  He is a turnstile that is inconsistent because he's focusing on scoring and running the offense to a detrimental level.  When he turns it on he can guard Lebron James, Kobe, CP3, DWill, etc.  but most of the time he's just completely worthless on defense.  Gets lost on picks, floats around too much and gives up uncontested jumpers, and gambles for the steal way too much.  He's the NBA version of Polamalu.  Overrated gambler who makes splash plays but gives up just as many when it doesn't work.

He also needs to stop worrying about carrying the entire offense when you can just run the fast break more.  This obsession with giving Rondo the ball every time is unnecessary when we can just outlet pass to a guard streaking up the court.  We talk about how we need to run the fast break more to help Rondo, but that doesn't mean Rondo has to have the  ball every single fast break.  We squander so many chances to run the fastbreak because we outlet pass to Rondo who is behind two or three guys already up the court.

2 huge problems...1, KG and Terry couldn't catch a cold, let alone the net, tonight (on good looks). 2, we keep running the iso-offense in the 4th instead of Rondo running and making things happen. The D was decent tonight, the execution on offense wasn't terrible (too many jumpers, as always, but good looks), but our guys couldn't hit anything.

Celtics have no inside game.

Jason Terry has been a pretty major disappointment so far this season.

Celtics can't protect the rim, and can't prevent dribble penetration.

Celtics are behind in second chance opportunities in every single game.

This is not a recipe for success.

Who the hell does Terry think he is? STOP SHOOTING THE [dang] BALL. You're 1 for 13. No wonder the Bucks are 3-1 against us this season now, our coach does not know how to exploit advantages against this midget team.
And how exactly would our "big" team exploit that?

The same way they did in the first half, play our big wings... Pierce and Green together.

way too many shots for JET, esp when he was as off as he was. tonight was a great night and matchup to go to pierce (we did) and green (we didn't). doc needs to start drawing up more offense for green. its getting ridiculous. he can create so many mismatches, but we have him standing at the 3 point line.

Terry isn't the problem. This team has NO inside presence and we don't have the talent to play Miami small-ball. Without a trade this team doesn't make it out the first round.

I see a lot of effort, hustle, grit, focus and determination this season. The problem is they don't sustain it. And happy birthday.

Thanks for the b-day wishes.

One defining characteristic of effort, hustle, grit, focus, and determination is that it is sustained.

By the way, they must have subconsciously read my little rant because for 2 minutes they played with all of that, and a bit of good ol'fashioned luck... and then blew it in overtime.

Pierce gets absolutely no love.  If his name was Durant, Wade, Kobe or Lebron, he'd be averaging 20 FTA per game.

On that play where Green got hurt, it was an uncalled over the back foul.

He had the rebound until Ilyasova got away with an over the back foul followed by an elbow to the eye for good measure. Green should have had two shots after that play.

thing is, if you watch the replay, there wasn't an over the back on the initial rebound.  it happened after that first tip.  if Green secures the ball on the initial rebound, there's no over the back and no injury

yeah, Green isn't the guy to put in there for a clutch rebound.  only player C's have that I'd feel confident would control their part of the floor for that ball is Sully

Refs got rid of him long before then.

Why ROndo is not a good as guard CP3..because CP3 can take over a game and MAKE a jumper to win their games.  Rondo himself is a poor offensive weapon ...ie can't shoot  :'(

KG and Jet couldn't hit a barn door at 10 paces.

I like the never-give up at the end of regulation.  But when you shoot 38% from the field, it is going to be really hard to win any game.

We gotta learn to block out enough to make the ref call the foul when the game is on the line.  I hope Jeff is ok.  I thought it was an obvious foul over the back on the play that he got injured.

At least KG played defense and rebounded.  Jet went 1-15 with 1 assist and no boards.

He didn't tip it clean, it was a clear over the back foul, well before the elbow to the eye. As for the elbow, how is that not a foul, and the elbow Sullinger had that barely touched Jennings was a foul? Pathetic.

Get off Greens back!!!! If you want to blame someone other than the refs, start with Jason Terry tonight.

Yes it was a huge part of it, but why was he even in the game for a significant part of the 4th quarter and OT when he clearly was having an off night on all facets of the game?  I pin the loss more on Doc than I do Terry.

If Doc panicked as much as some people on this site, this team would be changing starting lineups every game. You go with your guys, win or lose. That's how a good coach rolls. If your guys need to be changed, so be it. But until they are, you go with your guys and you trust them. I love Doc as a coach and I rarely have an issue with his decisions. I live eternally in a minority.

I'm not blaming him for the loss. But how does he not get that rebound? That one rebound could have prevented what occurred aftermath.

If I want to blame someone or something for the loss, I'd go with the darn basketball. Celtics missed a lot of make-able shots. Its one game though. onto the next one.

What do you mean Ray used to do it all the time. Doc has always stuck to his guys and told them to keep shooting their shots. This is nothing new and I'm not surprised. Doc never sits guys that he trusts to make shots, even when they're ice cold. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

I say the exact same thing.  If Terry is in the game, I want him taking those shots that he was getting.  They were his shots.  I have no problem with that.  But it makes little sense to stick with a player who has been struggling the entire game while another has played very well.  Lee was terrific off the bench, and I would have liked to have seen Doc place his trust in him to finish the game.

I'm not saying Terry should or shouldn't have been out there. I'm just saying that it's just how Doc operates. Doc trusts Terry more than he does Lee.

And I disagree on Terry's shots, he had decent looks he just flat out missed.

I wish Doc had stuck longer with Pierce and Green on the wing.  Pierce had his way with Monta on two possessions and if the Bucks had switched, Green could've had his way with Monta too.  Make the Bucks either pull Monta or use to guard a much, much bigger guy.  When Bass picked up two fouls, Doc went away from the big wing setup and never went back to it.  In the maybe 5 minute sample size all season, it's been really really good.

As much as Doc loves to tinker, he sets the limit at Pierce and Green on the wing together.  I don't get it.  When you have two postup wings with good strength, play them together once in awhile.

Why Doc Why?

I would like to see Kris Joseph get called up and get 15mpg while (if) Jeff Green sits out a few games.

I don't want to see Doc go with a smaller perimeter rotation with Courtney Lee playing those 15mpg at SF alongside undersized SGs like Jason Terry or Leandro Barbosa.

Well Joseph was called up for the Bucks game Doc just didn't play him and I am sure more information will come out by Christmas as to whether Green will play or if Barbosa (family issues) and Wilcox (injury) are inactive.
