Title: Eddy Curry waived. Is he better than Melo?
Post by: KG Living Legend on November 02, 2012, 05:03:04 PM

Dallas will waive Curry to sign are former Celtic scrub Troy Murphy. Does ANYONE anywhere want to take a shot on this worthless tool of a player?

That's weird.  I thought I read an article a few days ago that said they were going to possibly start him.

Eddy Curry (C) would make a very interesting center when partnered with Kevin Garnett (PF). Garnett's defense and jump-shooting helping to compensate for and free Curry up to do what he does best = low post scoring. Curry could actually be a nice weapon to have off the bench.

Not willing to sacrifice Fab Melo. Which means it would come down to Darko Milicic or Jason Collins for Eddy Curry.

Hmm ... I'd like to see some of Darko before deciding whether that would be worthwhile (I didn't watch preseason). Loathe to give up Jason Collins but would consider it if Darko was playing well enough.

They did start him against LA (I think).  Must not've liked what they saw.

He could be a nice piece here but I'm just not sure if we'd gain enough relative to whoever we'd have to cut.

There must be a reason he keeps getting cut.

This news surprises me. I watched the Mavs/Lakers game opening night, and he was giving L.A. all kinds of problems with his aggressive, bruising play in the paint. In 17 minutes of play he scored 7 points on 3-of-7 shooting (1 for 2 from the line) and grabbed 4 rebounds (2 offensive).

Of course, he did follow that with an 8-minute, 2-point, zero-rebound performance the following night against Utah.

Surprised by this. It seemed that the macs were surprisingly highish on curry and he really did play too bad against the lakers opening night.

Whether he's better than Melo or not is really irrelevant.  That would've been a question to ask last year when we had not big men depth.  But with KG, Darko, Collins, Bass, Sully, and Green, we don't have to worry about Melo contributing this year.

It's amazing that he's still only 29. :o

The Mavs started Brandan Wright at C vs the Lakers.

I'd take a flier on Curry if we didn't already have Collins. He'll make a team before the all-star break.

Instead of talking a flier on Curry let's just sign Shaq again. They are probably in similar shape and Shaq is at least funny and a great locker room guy. I missed the big shamrock and I'd let him ride pine and get title #5. Just so he can say he has as many as Kobe.

Logistically we'd have to cut someone for any pick up. Of the 15 we have currently I'd probably cut Joseph. With Pierce, Green and Lee all capable of playing at SF and it's not like Joseph is going to see much time this season. He's currently an investment for the future and if we can get a guy to contribute this year we'll let him go.

Skill wise, he is and if he can bring that low post skill in Boston it'll  be great.

My problem is, for Dallas, who's already short on Centers, cutting him, something must be wrong again. I would not let go of Fab for Curry. Fab sure has a long way to go but he has something that can be a very useful skill, defense. I don't know if we're getting the lost post prescence from Curry right now. For Collins though, on board.

If Eddy Curry could play 15 or even 10 quality minutes a night, Dallas would've kept him.

Here is the real reason he got cut...
Quote
The reason Curry would be released, according to the source, is because center Chris Kaman is expected to back ready to play in Saturday's home opener against the Charlotte Bobcats. It's also because power forward Dirk Nowitzki is still about a month away from returning to the court, and Murphy spends as much time on the perimeter as Nowitzki. In other words, the Mavs have a much stronger need right now for a power forward who can stretch the court (Murphy) than a center of Curry's ilk. Murphy, however, still has to pass his physical with the Mavs.
Curry played well for both Mavs and Spurs he will get picked up. Looks like he is regaining is old form.

Probably every team in the NBA will take Melo over Curry, understanding that Melo is not yet as NBA ready as Curry but that he likely has a future.

We all remember how bad Murphy was here. They dropped Curry to sign him. Regardless of player positions, that's all I need to know about how much Curry can help us.
