I'm not really the one to complain about officiating. But it has been awful in this series and it keeps going worse by each game. Look at game 4, in an ECF game, a ton of players were on the brink of fouling out. They simply didn't let the game to be played. It was mostly even, there were mistakes for both sides. But I don't like it that way, either. I could barely stop my laughter at some of those offensive foul calls. The other option instead of calling fouls as they perceive them is to call double techs, which are even more annoying.
With the Crawfords both used in the past 2 games I'm hoping they're out.In the 2 games we won, including the one where the Heat were left with just Wade in OT? Seemed to work out well.

There were also some excellent but bold calls, such as the foul on KG when he was holding Lebron. The foul calls in the post when fighting for position seem almost impossible to me. There is so much contact and bodies obscure the refs' view of a lot of the contact. Plus, the contact is away from the ball.
But that's not a fate I want to tempt twice. With the Crawfords both used in the past 2 games I'm hoping they're out.In the 2 games we won, including the one where the Heat were left with just Wade in OT? Seemed to work out well.
The NBA officials for tonight's Celtics-Heat game are Monty McCutchen, Ron Garretson and Derrick Stafford.

McCutchen has officiated 1,085 regular season, 80 playoff, and four Finals games. He worked the 2007 NBA All-Star Game in Las Vegas and was a member of the crew that officiated the 1996 and 1997 Mexico Challenges, as well as the 1998 Schick Rookie Game. Prior to joining the NBA, McCutchen spent four seasons in the CBA, where he worked the All Star game his second year and the playoffs all four years. He also officiated the CBA Finals the last three years he was with the league. McCutchen missed the 1998-99 season with a ruptured Achilles tendon. He is a former elementary and middle school teacher and is fondly remembered by his students as a really nice guy. In searching for information on him, I found a Cavs' blog that blamed a loss to the Celtics on the officiating of Monty McCutchen. That was the game where Mike Brown was ejected and the Cavs made a furious comeback but fell short. In game 2 of the WCF, McCutchen flipped out on someone and yelled "I'm running this game not you!" as Serge Ibaka went to the line for free throws. Other than that, there's not a lot of controversy about McCutchen. The Celtics are 5-1 this season and 7-3 in their last 10 games with McCutchen on the court. One win this season was against the Knicks where they let them play and the Celtics shot 24 free throws to 21 for the Knicks. The second win was against the Bobcats where it was just the opposite. They called ticky tack fouls on both sides and let nothing go as evidenced by the 45 free throws taken by the Celtics and 35 by the Bobcats but the game was called fairly for both teams. The 3rd win was the Celtics subs vs the Heat's subs and they let them play with the Celtics taking 16 free throws to 7 for the Heat. Another win was game 3 vs Atlanta where they once again let them play and the Celtics took 25 free throws to 15 for the Hawks. The final win was game 7 vs Philadelphia where the Celtics shot 22 free throws to 20 for Philly and they called the game pretty well. The loss was to the Bulls where the Bulls shot 26 free throws to 18 for the Celtics but the game was called fairly. The Heat are 5-3 this season and 6-4 in their last 10 with McCutchen. He is a homer ref with a 45-19 home W/L record this season.

Garretson, the son of former NBA official Darell Garretson (1967-94), has officiated 1,605 regular season and 182 playoff games, including 11 NBA Finals games, over his 24 seasons in the NBA. In addition, Garretson has two years of CBA officiating experience and two years of high school officiating experience in Arizona. Garretson earned his Associate of Arts degree from Golden West Junior College. He played football and basketball at Servite High School in Anaheim, Calif. and was recognized for his athletic achievements in 2000 when he was inducted into Servite High School’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Garretson was one of the refs that Mark Cuban was fined $75,000 for criticizing. Garretson called game 5 of last year's MIA/BOS series where the Celtics shot just 20 free throws to 38 for the Heat and the game was called pretty much one sided. The Celtics are 1-2 this season and 4-6 over their last 10 games with Garretson. One loss this season was to the Thunder and the Celtics shot 16 free throws to 19 for the Thunder. The game was called evenly and they let them play. The second loss was game 6 vs Philly where the Celtics shot 23 free throws to 28 for the Sixers and the officiating wasn't bad. The win was the OT win over the Hawks in round 1 where the Celtics shot 25 free throws to 15 for the Hawks and the officiating was good. The Heat are 2-2 this season and 7-3 over their last 10 games with Garretson. He's pretty much a homer ref with a home W/L record this season of 42-19.

Over his 23 NBA seasons, Derrick Stafford has worked 1,402 regular season, 99 playoff, and five Finals games. He was a member of the crew that officiated the 1997 McDonald’s Championship in Paris, the Legends All-Star Game in Orlando and the 2002 NBA All-Star Game. The 23-year NBA officiating veteran has also served twice on the Executive Board of the National Basketball Referee Association. Stafford has six years of CBA officiating experience, and he officiated Pro-Am basketball for six years. He also has seven years of collegiate officiating and 10 years of high school officiating experience in Georgia. Stafford is known to be quick to call technical fouls. Pat Riley and Stafford have a bit of bad blood between them. Back in 2003 when Riley was coaching, he accused Stafford of shouting "It's not about you." at Riley when Riley complained excessively about the calls. Stafford was suspended for 2 games as a result. Stafford was also fined as a result of a complaint that Lawrence Frank made when he was coach of the Nets. I found 4 other articles detailing complaints about Stafford for his actions or comments. It seems that Mr Stafford is a hot head who loves to lash out at players and coaches who question him. The Celtics are 3-2 this season and 6-4 over the last 10 games with Stafford on the court. Their regular season win was against Toronto and the Celtics shot 32 free throws to 20 for the Raptors. One loss was to the Lakers where the officiating was terrible and the Celtics shot just 5 (yes, that's FIVE) free throws to 20 for the Lakers. And you thought the 9 free throws against the Sixers in game 2 was bad. The second loss was to the Raptors where Toronto shot 31 free throws to 19 for the Celtics. He also officiated game 6 vs the Hawks where the Celtics shot 24 free throws to 10 for the Hawks. The final game was the game 3 win vs Philly where the Celtics shot 28 free throws to 22 for the Sixers. The Heat are 3-2 this season and 7-3 over their last 10 games with Stafford. I'm going to be at the game tonight right behind one of the baskets. Hopefully I don't get murdered (then again people in Miami don't care) this should have been the close out game for the Celtics....My son went to our last win in Miami and he said he cheered really loud for the Celtics an nobody paid him any attention. But that was regular season. They may have a little more gumption (or beer) in the post season.

I'm a lurker. Been lurking since I found the sight in 07 looking for KG trade info. I didn't even know I was a lurker until reading Jeff's post. I get on at least twice a day but never post. This is such a huge game I had to post my favorite Celtics Big Game ritual. I listen to it a couple of times before tip off. Not to be used for a mid Feb. game against the Wizards. I'm sure someones posted it before. The names have changed but it still amps me up. Go Celts, Beat the Heat.

This is going to be a massacre... not even close. Miami is going to destroy us. I'm not watching it live... going to watch "Snow White and the Huntsman" instead. I'll watch the blowout on hyper speed on DVR wheN I get back.
Game 6, though... we might have a shot in game 6.

Well...we have the majority of the NBA fan support hands down.I'm on a 5 week consulting gig in Charleston, and I can't believe how many Celtics fans there are! I wear my C's hat everyday to work and people actually have stopped me on the street to talk about the series. Being from Boston, I guess I stick out like a sore thumb...it's also refreshing to see a ton of people excited about the NBA--
Its just that the media, ESPN , ect ect ..ect and Vegas odds makers don't give us much of a chance.
He is obviously not a gambler and goes with odds on favorite.
I expect alot of technicals, Doc may be tossed , its not gonna be pretty basketball. The cHeat are a bunch of ruffneck and thugs playing one on one street ball with a sissy for a coach.
If we can KEEP it close , not let em blow us out ..and just be there with our Captain PP , Ray and KG all still alive and well in the game....we'll have a decent chance.

BEAT THE HEAT!
DO you think ESPN made Doris BUrke wear make up? She looks like a woman tonight...
Listening to Jon Barry and Chris Broussard continue to be so confident in their Heat victory predictions makes me want to win this one all the more.

Have they predicted the Heat to lose once this year?
Big game for both teams but I think it's a bit bigger for Miami.
They have looked vulnerable mentally and I am not sure how well they can handle the pressure of being down 3-2 after losing three straight games and to a team that they are clearly worried about playing against.
If Boston do lose, I am very confident they have the mental strength to come back from that and still play at their highest level. After all, little has changed, it's still win two or go home.
Not sure Miami can say the same thing. I think they are a real question mark when adversity strikes.
When you sidestep like that...isn't it never a charge? Help me out here.
Score?

why is it soo much to aske to get unbiased announcers..???Woah, Breen actually admitted that Wade fouled Pierce. How do you like that? ;)

11-9 MIA, almost 7 mins played. Looking pretty good so far.
4-17 from the floor. Can't blame that on the refs.
Let's make some shots and keep ourselves from digging a hole.

Only because JVG's got an out-of-view gun pointing at him.

Don't think they could have started any worse. Lucky to be down only 5. God do I hate the Heat PA guy
HATE millerHate bosh.
I turned it off because I can already see how it's going to go. Lebron has committed at least two obvious fouls that weren't called and everything is called against the Celtics.
(I'll probably turn it on again in a while. Go C's.)

We have had severe butterfingers. Some really embarrassing, pathetic turnovers. I guess we're fortunate to be down 8. Regroup, regroup, regroup.

How do you go 6-23 on shots that are not even difficult or well-contested? This is bad, real bad, Michael Jackson.
Cool denial of an and-1 for a struggling team, refs.
It is so difficult watching pietrus shoot the ball.
Nice to see him using the left arm.
It is so difficult watching pietrus shoot the ball.
Yes, that last shot was brutal. Remember when he was making shots?
the way we're playing, if we're under 10 at the half ill be happy
you say rondo off to a bad start...where is ray...kg...peitrus, bass.....
Please get pietrus out of there. He is brutal
Please get pietrus out of there. He is brutal
He is a great defender
Kg brutal
Please get pietrus out of there. He is brutal
He is a great defender
Not a great defender. Better than average
shut up wade and take your foul like a manHe's just making Rondo's comment even more right.
LeBron will have to play all game, because the Heat can't play without him. Good. This looks like a classic choke game for James in the 4th.
Keep it close, Celtics, Defense and ball movement!
Go Celtics!
Please get pietrus out of there. He is brutal
He is a great defender
Not a great defender. Better than average
He is the best wing defender on the best defensive team in the NBA
4-21. Pierce rondo and kg. yikes
So, yeah, Bosh is having an impact.
Terrible calls ****
So ugly but you gotta love it!
There is a lid on our rim. If we were shooting well, we'd be up by twenty.
Terrible calls ****
honestly refs haven't been that bad for home in miami. Lebron and wade have not been parading to the line as usual
There is a lid on our rim. If we were shooting well, we'd be up by twenty.
Miami's shooting okay when they don't take a dumb, forced shot. They're turning it over like nobody's business, and that's why they're not out ahead IMO.There is a lid on our rim. If we were shooting well, we'd be up by twenty.
So would they.
I did just drop in so yea haven't watched the game just didn't like that one where Wade just bumped into Pietrus and he gets the callTerrible calls ****
honestly refs haven't been that bad for home in miami. Lebron and wade have not been parading to the line as usual
Exactly. The refs have been pretty good and most of all, pretty consistent.
Beautiful.
KG!!!!
nice dime from rondo!
Trying to stay positive.
Still, I remember Game 1 feeling the same way - had no clue how they were in the game at halftime and then got run in the 2nd half.
I hope they are finished with the dreaded drought for the rest of the game.
Travel on Wade.
Beautiful.KG!!!!
nice dime from rondo!
same time bro
I don't know if this means anything but the Celtics are playing harder than the heat. Not necessarily better but harder.I can't stand ESPN, but they were right when they said the Celtics have been outplaying them for a couple of games.
Is that really a foul on Ray? What did he do?
I'll take it.Yup great job making it a one possession play despite poor offensive shooting.
All our key guys have 2 or more fouls don't they, and them?right...too bad a standard game vs the heat means we usually have 4 each......so the refs aren't as "bad" as usual....just bad....LOL...
Great defense, frighteningly bad offense and only down 2. I will take it.That's this teams mo
All our key guys have 2 or more fouls don't they, and them?
How in the sam hill are we not down by 30?
TRUE GRIT there..
Words cannot express how much I'll take being down 2 after that shooting half.
and what seemed like them getting every offensive reboundI'll take it.Yup great job making it a one possession play despite poor offensive shooting.
How in the sam hill are we not down by 30?
How in the sam hill are we not down by 30?
Exactly. ridiculous half and we're still in it.
lebron is just insane though, credit where it's due. 18 points 9 rebounds in the first half?
well 6 fouls IS his annual allotment after all ;)All our key guys have 2 or more fouls don't they, and them?
This is what I find annoying. Lebron has 0 fouls. Because he fouled out he probably has a free pass the rest of the series. ::)
Fortunate to only be down 2....
I checked in late how has Rondo looked? I didn't see him attack much I'm assuming starting the third he's going to take over
Only down 2. Holy moley!!!
The ESPN round table can only see the game through the lens of what Miami ISN'T doing. Sad. There are two teams playing guys.
omgI saw that and I am shocked by that.
magic jumpin on the Celtics band wagon
I think he's trying to jinx the Celtics...omgI saw that and I am shocked by that.
magic jumpin on the Celtics band wagon
Jon Barry is a pathetic Heat nut hugger dude seriously makes me sickjust seeing him on screen makes me want to smash my TV. Hated that SOB ever since he refused to sign with the C's after they picked him. Unworthy to wear the green and unworthy to talk about the green.

He loves Rondo.I think he's trying to jinx the Celtics...omgI saw that and I am shocked by that.

rondo dime to kg
DUNK!!!!
I've known that since 2010 when he was praising Rondo throughout the playoffs. Heck I know a ton of Laker fans who actually like Rondo alot.He loves Rondo.I think he's trying to jinx the Celtics...omgI saw that and I am shocked by that.
magic jumpin on the Celtics band wagon
they trying to physically hurt us
they trying to physically hurt usThat's all they can do to try and beat the Celtics.
I like how Battier was talking crap to Pierce. Shut your mouth, son, you're one of the worst players on the floor.
I like how Battier was talking crap to Pierce. Shut your mouth, son, you're one of the worst players on the floor.
Miami players leak out a lot. Almost like playing at the park.you'd think after the first couple of times that happened in this series they'd learn to protect against it but it's happening a couple of times each game at least. if we're not going to crash the offensive boards, why are we giving up those breakaways?? ???
I respect Doc tried the zone. But it's not working , so get out of it.
It was.I respect Doc tried the zone. But it's not working , so get out of it.
I guarantee you it was Rondo's call to go to a zone.
Rono has had some really nice passes to KG tonight. That's about it.
I respect Doc tried the zone. But it's not working , so get out of it.
I guarantee you it was Rondo's call to go to a zone.
game was tied then we resort back to shooting jumpers. what the hell is doc rivers thinking???? GO TO THE PAINT!Thank You. It's like they don't understand that if the jumpshot isn't there go inside the paint.
I like how Battier was talking crap to Pierce. Shut your mouth, son, you're one of the worst players on the floor.
I'd take Battier over anyone on the Celts' bench
Looks like Doc is going all in with the main guys. Again. Bench? Legs? Rest?have you not become familiar with Doc's strategy in the big 3 era?
All too well (cost em the title in 10).Looks like Doc is going all in with the main guys. Again. Bench? Legs? Rest?have you not become familiar with Doc's strategy in the big 3 era?
Man, Pierce is struggling badly.it's Pietrus/Bass-level bad.
Boston Celtics: Where missed layups happen
looked like Steamer got pushed on that too
.01 seconds is difference between greg stiemsma shooting FT's, and Celtics taking the ball out on the side
Pierce playing good D. Not getting the cleanest looks though. Forcing it a little.I don't mind it though you have to try and get to the line better than long jumpers, as a team though we do got to move the ball better
4th Q is Pierce time, I'm feeling itwhen Pierce is off, he's really off all game long... :-\
.01 seconds is difference between greg stiemsma shooting FT's, and Celtics taking the ball out on the side
what does this mean?
Wow. Breen sounds like he wants to cry. Keep it going........please
I don't think anyone in the league does as good a job finding trailers as Rondo does in those secondary transitions.
Wow. Breen sounds like he wants to cry. Keep it going........pleaseI thought he sounded excited (by Boston's surge).
Just close it out C's
Just close it out C's
Dear LORD please make this happen.

Boston starting to find their groove and are knocking down shots.
Weak. Whenever the refs want to kill momentum, they call an offensive foul. :P

Couple of mental lapses. Good way to lose the momentum. Good TO.Yeah, I like that timeout too. Settle things down. Try to slow MIA's momentum.
Weak. Whenever the refs want to kill momentum, they call an offensive foul. :Pon our hottest guy no less who already had 3, so whenever they want him out of the game just call another quick one ::)
Wow. I'm eating my words now. Great run by Cs to end the third. I can't believe they're winning! And by 5!!
granted it was a bad call but C's have played dumb since then without the refs' involvementWeak. Whenever the refs want to kill momentum, they call an offensive foul. :P
I seriously could feel that one coming moments before it happened.
Rondo another brainfart. ::)
that was an offensive on Bron with the left arm. and Breen ignoring it
RONDO. SIT.about time to sit him and Pietrus for Dooling and Daniels for at least a few minutes.
RONDO. SIT.
Shut up Breen
this game he's playing brain-injured. does that qualify?RONDO. SIT.
Never sit your best player, unless he's injured.
smart, very smartShut up Breen
I watch muted -- all game/ every game.
We need KG back in there ASAP!
That Rondo rebound tip pass to Pietrus was huge.Brilliant play by Rondo
If you get a clean block, are you allowed to slap the guy in the face?that's a Wade high 5 ;)
Going outh. Getting beaten by Norris cole and James jones. Game 6 will be tough
Wade just runs at the goal. Back off him and make him shoot a jumper.amendment-- make that a contested jumper
hope Ray is back to Mr Automatic for the tech foul shot
but not for his last several shots.hope Ray is back to Mr Automatic for the tech foul shot
he's been money for couple games now
We CAN do this!!!!
Chalmers is such a studio gangster 8)
Get luckier Wade.
This can't be real, we are looking at a 4 point lead AND the ball. That's what it feels like :D UNREAL :D :D :D
Looked like a charge on Wade. Pierce beat him to the spot.

One of the sickest shots I've ever seen over MVP's defense, eh?. Plus he got fouled
That's how you become the leader of a team, not just the leading scorer.

The Heat can't take the pressure.
Heat index just went into the minus

If they didn't have motivation by now it's too late.
Girlfriend bought tickets to see Snow White during the game. I DVR'd it so I could watch it when I got back. I went radio silent... turned off my phone, ignored every TV... got home and finally watched it.
I like to think that the Celtics had actually lost the game... and that my dad and best friend were home crying as I watched the game... but I gave all my Celtic positive energy... screamed at the TV like I was watching it live... took every gut punch... went nuts after every big shot... and we pulled it off! I like to think time stood still while I watched it... I'm pretty sure I just changed the course of history. Or maybe not... maybe it's just because my girlfriend has been making me watch non-stop "Doctor Who" for the past two weeks and I'm losing my mind.
It's a shame we will blow this series like we blew the 2010 finals... but Man.. I'm so proud of the Celtics for pushing this one to 7. (You didn't really think I was going to break character at this point, did you?)
