Game Notes
These two teams complete the home and home series that began on Tuesday with the short handed Celtics recording a blow out win of historic proportions.  The Celtics were missing 5 players in that game including their starting point guard and shooting guard but they came out playing pestering defense behind full court pressure on Jameer Nelson that had him begging for mercy by the end of the game.

As it has been all season, it's not clear who will be available and who won't.  Ray didn't make the trip with the team due to some lingering soreness in his ankle along with a pregnant wife who is due any day.  But, the other 4 injured players all made the trip and could possibly play in this one.

Keyon Dooling stated that he was targeting this game to return so it's very possible we will see him.  Avery is listed as the starting point guard in the game notes and after his performance in the last game, he has earned it.  However, if Rondo is ready to go,  expect him to move into the starting lineup once again.  Sasha is once again listed as the starting shooting guard.

The Celtics didn't just beat the Magic,  they embarassed them, limiting them to the lowest point total in franchise history.   They will certainly be looking for a measure of revenge in this game.   The Celtics need to be ready if they don't want to be on the receiving end of a blow out this time.

The Celtics have been off since they played the Magic on Monday.  The Magic went on to play in Indiana on Tuesday night and will be playing in the 3rd game in 4 nights.  Hopefully they took out some of their frustrations in their 102-83 win in Indy.    The Celtics are 2-4 on the road while the Magic are 6-2 at home.

Key Matchups
(http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/headshots/nba/players/full/615.png&w=250&h=184)  vs  (http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/headshots/nba/players/full/2384.png&w=250&h=184)
Jermaine O'Neal vs Dwight Howard
This is the key matchup between these two teams.  Whether it was Jermaine or team defense or just an off night for Howard, he only had 18 points and 14 rebounds, both below his averages, in the first game.  The Celtics managed to keep him from receiving the ball in his favorite spots around the basket and need to try to do the same in this game.

(http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/headshots/nba/players/full/4240.png&w=250&h=184)  vs  (http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/headshots/nba/players/full/2439.png&w=250&h=184)
Avery Bradley vs Jameer Nelson
In their first meeting, Avery picked up Nelson full court the entire game and harassed him on defense until Nelson was giving the ball to Turkoglu to bring it up.    Whether it is Rondo or Bradley at the point,  they should stick with what worked in the first game and continue to play tough defense and defend Nelson the full length of the floor.

Honorable Mention
Paul Pierce vs Hedo Turkoglu
These two have had some tough battles over the years.  Pierce is finally finding his game and it is crucial for the team for him to continue to play well.  It's not surprising that the team has been playing better since Pierce started playing better.   Turkoglu is one of their key scorers and Pierce needs to defend him well and make him work hard on the defensive end.

Keys to the Game
Defense - Defense is the key to winning. Period. They played absolutely amazing defense in the first game and the result was a blow out win over an 11-4 team.   If they continue to commit to defense and not let up, they could surprise the Magic once again, this time in their house.

Play Smart for 48 Minutes -  The Celtics played hard and well the entire game in their first game against the Magic.  They need to come out strong because the Magic are going to be gunning for them to avenge the beat down they got in Boston.  If the Celtics let up,  the Magic will take advantage.

Rebound - Dwight Howard can take over a game on rebounds and put backs alone if the Celtics don't box him out and crash the boards as a team.  The Celtics out-rebounded the Magic 46-44 in their first meeting.  They need to have that same commitment to crashing the boards as a team that thy had in their first meeting.

Be Aggressive - The Celtics have to be aggressive from start to finish.  They have to take the ball to the hoop and not settle for jumpers, especially if the jumpers aren't falling as they haven't been so far this season.  They also have to be aggressive in going after loose balls and rebounds as well.   And most important,  they have to be aggressive on defense.  If they play timidly in the least or show any weakness, the Magic will take advantage of it.  Their aggressiveness in the first game caused 23 turnovers by the Magic and they need to remember that and do the same thing in this game.

Limit Turnovers - It seems that the Celtics will go on a run and then turn the ball over several times right after to allow the other team right back in it.  They seem to let up at times and lose focus.  They did a good job in this category in their first meeting with the Magic turning the ball over just 15 times.

X-Factors
Injuries and Revenge
It's tough to plan when you don't know which players will be available and which players won't.   They surprised everyone by beating the Magic with key players out and we don't know which players will return for this game.  Will those returning players be as effective as the ones who filled in?  Will the Magic have revenge on their minds and come out gunning and play just as physically as the Celtics?  I guess we shall find out.

Hard not to feel confident after the way we whooped them last game. I don't expect another big blow out, but I definitely wouldn't mind.  ;D

Tp FLC for the work.

Just watched Comcast Sportsnet.  They said when Rondo heard that Doc said he wasn't playing he told them that he was going to play and he was going to have a meeting with Doc and talk him into playing him.   Now we'll see who's boss  LOL

They said that Pietrus, Wilcox and Dooling were definitely playing.

They didn't mention JO one way or the other as to whether he's playing or not.

Congrats to Ray and Shannon Allen on the birth of their 3rd son today.  Wynn Ryder Allen weighed in at 8 lb 11 oz.

Revenge can be a mighty ugly thing ...and I think the C"s is gonna get a "big ole can" opened on them tonight.

They won't let the likes of AB do what he did last time, we will need Rondo if we are to have a chance.

Also look for the Big "Lazy" Davis to show up and score about 20 points and get 10 boards.  He would just to spite us.

DH goes for 41 and 22 boards, ANderson hits 5 threes and all the Magic get 11 threes.

We start cold and fall behind by 23 at half.   ;D

Same ole ...same ole

A win.

This feels like more of a barometer game than even the last one.

If we win, we'll have a major feeling of accomplishment and a "we believe" kind of momentum under us.

If we lose, we'll be dogged once again by more pessimism and muddied outlooks.

Personally, I think we can win. But, I could also see us getting blown out. However, my gut tells me this will be a much closer game and maybe even a nail biter.

I'm with these guys regardless! Enjoy the game peoples!!!

Go Celtics!!!!  8)

I still say take Howard off this Orlando team and this team is a deep lottery team. The rest of that team is really that bad.

So, our three starters are out for tonight. Call me crazy but i think that might be a good thing for C's.
My only concern is foul troubles for KG and Greg. If we can avoid that i think we have a chance to win this one.
I am interested to see how Magic players will react after that awful performance.
Should be a fun game to watch.

Who starts at C?

If we go small with KG, Orlando will try to get him in foul trouble and the refs will blow two quick ones on him since it's on the road.

Stiemsma will get targeted as the rookie.

Start Wilcox, slide KG over later, use Stiemsa in spot duty.

Don't like KG starting at C against Dwight on the road. We need him to play big minutes. Come on Glenn.

quick thoughts:
love the line danny wishes howard was in green or something close
dont' think glenn davis will do better than is 11 bds last game
otis smith should realize that nelson is a good backup guard (sorry loved that st joes backcourt)
kg stays out of foul trouble its very possible we beat them again

imo poorly set up team (smith fault) and system (van gundy fault)

Pietrus is a great addition to this team.

Let's keep up the defensive pressure.

C;s can sit around the three point line chucking shots hoping they go in in an attempt to win this game. Pietrus and Pierce have to take it to the basket or set up underneath. 16 FGA. 8 3PTA while getting crushed on the boards. Not good effort that quarter.

The one that intrigued me was that the young teams are going to steal the beginning of the year but all the savvy veteran teams will be there at the end..

EDIT: although I wouldn't describe this team as savvy.

This is getting ugly. I hope we can make the 56 point mark  :-\

Greg has 4 fouls in 7 minutes. It's hard to criticize a 26 y old rookie but some of his fouls are so stupid.

On the positive side we will see JJJ on the floor in the second half.

I said Stiemsma would foul out in 10 minutes. Looking good.

Steamy has the tools, now he has to learn the NBA. DH got 2 fouls early. Steamer has to learn DH will get every call for the next two quarters. Hard working Orlando fans paid to see DH, the NBA will give them their money's worth.

Down by 20 after 16 min.

A huge turnover like this from the last game shows how this team is far from any reasonable consistency.

Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline., no JO no center? Goodbye playoffs.

Let's be realistic here.

We have three starters out with injury.
We are starting a PG that has no left hand whatsoever.
We are relying on two players that barely played in the league last year.
We are on the road against a good team seeking retribution for an embarrassing display of basketball three days prior.
Two of our bench veterans we are using and relying on in this game have ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY SUCKED this year.

Put this into the equation for any team in the league and guess what, you get an embarrassing road loss.

This is the NBA. Any team can beat any other on any given night. Its when you start putting together consistent efforts and results with consistent players that you can declare anything about a team, IMHO.

Has this team really had consistent efforts and results with consistent players at any point this year?

I would say no and because of that I am not sure anyone can declare anything definitive about this team, positively or negatively.

holy crap guys....I'm watching this on tape delay and it's less than a minute to halftime  -- C's down 25.  popped onto NBA.com to get ready for the pick 2 draft and saw the score with less than 3 minutes to go!!

can't wait to get to that second half -- If I can get to it tonight, I'll try to get to the post-win tradition of TP's for everyone here.

What the Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. was that? It's only a 6 point game. Running the clock down makes sense, but running it down so you can jack up a contested three?

Great character win...

On a negative note, I'm now becoming convinced that Stiemsma is a waste of a roster spot.  The guy has huge limitations... Kinda like a "AAAA" guy - you baseball fans get this.  He's not NBA material, but would probably put up solid numbers at the D-League.  But I've seen enough of him...his 15 minutes are now up.

Celtics > Magic

Maybe they were really motivated to show Dwight that he should come here to win.

I admit I stopped even following the score of this game in the 2nd quarter when it was 43-23.  Couldn't believe it when I saw they had won.  Quite a win for the team, on the heels of an impressive defensive performance.

Doesn't change my opinion about the long term prospects of the team, but it's impressive, no doubt.  Very encouraging to see Moore have such a great game, too.

WOW, what a comeback! I thought we were done at halftime because of the blowout, then we came back and I thought "ok maybe we can tie it but we will ultimately falter late in the game like we did all season"... and yet we  didn't!

E'Twaun was awesome, talk about a breakout game! Hopefully he keeps it up and makes his place in the rotation. Glad Doc trusted him in this one though (although he didn't have much choice with Dooling's new injury). Pierce was awesome once again, Bass too and Pietrus hit key shots.

It's so cool to see the real Celtics back. And to win this one after such a deficit, on the road, without Ray and Rondo, and JO... wow!!

I thought Wilcox looked good at stretches.   It also showed that Greg is not a good low post defender as I have been saying.  He should stick to blocking shots.  He struggles at post D though.  Moore was awesome and I hope he buries Avery to the bench.

Moore IMO handles the ball more securely than any othe Celtic guard. Rondo makes fantastic plays then 5 secd latter he dribbles it off his foot.  Moore is slower ,but more sure handed and steady.  He just needs to learn to run the show and need TONs of court time.  Moore is streaky shooter, when he is hot he can go crazy.

Some of the best defense you'd ever want to see in the second half. Simply outstanding, and great to see some of the bench guys buying in.

Moore was terrific. You earn your way with solid play with the lights on and the TV goons talking, and his game was solid across the board - ballhandling, defense, shooting within the flow of the offense.

One of the most stirring Celtic wins ever.

Stat of the night; Moore lead all players in +/- at +27.  He didn't get any assists but no turnovers either.

Ok, just caught game on League Pass.  Moore and Capt. getting alot of love round here, but what about KG!

His best game of the season by far.  He was everywhere on D tonight - especially 2nd half.

Spurred that 2nd half comeback with his magnificent D.

Also had a nice offensive game sharing the ball.

I hope this home-and-home is a turning point.  The team can still play suffocating defense.  I hope the team can get everyone healthy with the vets and young guys playing this awesome defense while getting into a grove on offense.

Leaves me much more optimistic after these two games.

I think Rondo has the best handle in the league with those huge hands. Very rarely see him get picked off. His TOs come from crazy oases usually.

I do agree that moore probably has a better handle than Avery and Dooling though

also KG was like a +25 I think. Both were by far the highest. Garnett playing in the first half and guarding howard for most of the game makes that even more impressive

Kgs stats although impressive, 12 points, 10 boards, 4 blocks, 3 assists, 3 steals, 3 tos, +25, really dont begin to describe the  impact he had on this game

I was wrong to get in the dumps about the team last night.

This team pulled out a nice comeback win.

Let's hope for more of the same!
