Key Matchups
(http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/media/act_rajon_rondo.jpg)vs(http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/media/act_john_wall.jpg)
Rajon Rondo vs John Wall
As Rondo goes so go the Celtics. In their first meeting, Rondo clearly won this matchup with a triple double and he was also in control of the game. Wall will be looking to show that Rondo isn't the best PG out of Kentucky.

Jermaine O'Neal vs Javale McGee
Jermaine O'Neal finally came alive in the Celtics' home opener and he played well in the first game of this home and home series.  McGee played very well in the first game with 16 points, 14 rebounds and 5 blocks.  JO left the game with a tight hamstring and Doc said that he could have come back in if they needed him.  Hopefully he will be good to go in this game as the Celtics very much need him against the 7 foot and athletic McGeen.

Honorable Mention
Kevin Garnett vs Andray Blatche
Kevin Garnett had his best game of the season in the first game against the Wizards with 24 points on 17 shot attempts to go with 9 rebounds.   The Celtics will need continued aggressive play from KG on both ends of the court.

Keys to the Game
Rebound  The Celtics must crash the boards and keep the Wizards from getting second chance points, fast break opportunities and extra possessions. The Celtics out rebounded the Wizards 41-39 in the first game and they need to aggressively go after rebounds in this game as well.

Defense    Defense always wins games.  The Celtics have to make defense their priority and shut down the paint as well as staying on their outside shooters.   When the Celtics clamp down on defense the rest of their game picks up.   They still aren't back to where they need to be defensively but they are getting better.

Be Aggressive  The Celtics need to play aggressively.  They need to take the ball to the hoop and try to get to the line early and often.   Make the officials call the fouls.  They also have to go for every loose ball and battle for all the rebounds.   If they play passively, they could be facing another loss to a team that is hungry for their first win.

Limit Turnovers - The Celtics have turned the ball over too much in games so far.  The tend to make lazy passes and lose focus from time to time and give their opponents easy scoring opportunities because of it.  They had 16 turnovers in the first game to just 14 for the Wizards.  They need to take better care of the ball.

X-Factors
Focus and Fatigue
The Celtics have not done well in back to back games in the last couple of years.  Doc kept the starters minutes down pretty well in the first game with KG, Pierce and JO all playing under 30 minutes and Ray at 35 minutes and Rondo at 33.  Hopefully fatigue won't be a big factor.  The Celtics also need to focus on this game and not take the Wizards for granted.  The Wizards are the only team left winless and that is pretty strong motivation to play hard. The Celtics better not underestimate them.

Another key to the game is to continue the crisp passing.  There were several sequences last nigght where all 5 guys touched the ball, leading to an easy bucket.  Wizards just don't play defense well enough to keep up with that.

Why in the world did the Wizards take on Rashard with his bloated contract?

Unlike a lot fo folks here, I'm not a fan of McGee.  I'd rather have Blatche who is a lot more talented.

They traded Gilbert Arenas for him.

This should be fun, A. Sherrod Blakely tweets:

#Celtics JO (hamstring) out; Wilcox (shoulder) in. Stiesma to start.

The Wizards have something of a load at center, but Stiemsma got some experience there last night, we can see if he's learned from it for tonight.

I agree, I want to see Stiems with the starters but JO being hurt already... ugh! I'm not listening to them about this injury either until I see JO play, you see what happened to Shaq!

Cool ... I am almost interested in this game now.

It'll be good to see what Steimsma can do in an extended role while playing against J.McGee.

Should be interesting.  I hate hearing that JO is out with a hamstring injury.  It wouldn't have been shocking just to see Doc rest JO in this back-end game.  But a hamstring can last forever.

Another Blakely tweet, the Stiemer is stoked:

#Celtics Stiemsma on 1st #NBA start. "I'm ready to go. This whole time here has been about opportunities. I just look at it as another one."

The Stiemer is averaging slightly more than 1 block every 5 minutes.  Let's see if he can keep the average going with extended minutes.

Reminds me of last year when our only healthy center was Semih.  Good times.

Stiemsma: from 15th man to starting 5 in 5 games.

I was hoping to see Wilcox in with the starters, but it will be nice to get an extended look at Stiemsma against McGee and Blatche and John Wall on the pick and roll.

Stiemsma needs about 5 blocks to be a factor again in the blocks-per-game standings I believe :)

.edit: He's second right now with 3.3 per game, after DeAndre Jordan with 3.8!

Avery needs to learn to stop and pop, or work on getting a little floater, because he does a great job penetrating, but he over penetrates straight into the defense, and then gets his stuff swatted.

All he needs to do is stop and pop at the spot where he feels he needs one more dribble.

If I'm Danny, I'm seriously thinking of giving McGee a huge offer this off season and hoping Wiz don't match.
This.

A bit immature, but I think that's more a product of coming out young and playing on the Wizards.

I'd bank on him wising up around the C's and Doc.

Yeah and you gotta think he'd love playing with rondo. Sure wall can pass too but rondo is just something else.

The difference being Wall really has no interest in passing.

He passes like LeBron: only if the shot isn't there and its in the interest of making himself look good.

How much?
DeAndre Jordan got a 4 year $43M deal. I'd say McGee is a relative bargain at $10M/year and Washington would match in a heart beat. Nene got a 5 year $65M deal. Washington would probably match that as well....

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE what we have seen from the two young guys tonight.

Funny that during the off season everyone was talking up what the two young guys, Moore and Johnson could add to this team and the one's making contributions are Steimsma and Bradley.

Personally I could care less who it is but I love that young guys are contributing to winning Celtics basketball. Gives me faith that the future isn't so bleak.

BTW, Ray will need to be brought back on a two year contract. Is there really any doubt about that?

Bradley is really good at pressuring the ball handler.

Now if he could just develop at least one other NBA-level skill, he would deserve a spot in the rotation.

Also, I have no interest at all in Javale McGee.  The guy gets by on size, length, and athleticism alone.  He has no fundamentals and he doesn't know what he's doing out there on the court half the time.  He should be about 5 times better than he is.

Well, he's developing a hook shot. It's still not Kareem-ish, but it's more than what DeAndre Jordan has.

Well he's restricted so they will have three days to match but maybe you throw him a max level deal and see if Washington let's you have him.

He will be a four year veteran, 24 years old and probably a guy that will give you 18-20 PPG, 10-12 RPG, 2 BPG, 1 SPG for a long time.

Is that worth a max contract and pairing him up with Rondo, Green, Bass, and the younger guys for the future?

Come on, is Javale McGee really close to showing the ability to put up 20-10 on a nightly basis?  That would make him one of the best centers in the league.  We're not talking about Andrew Bynum here.

Javale McGee, as big and long as he is, as great a shot blocker as he is, is actually a net negative defensively more often than not.  He's a terrible defender.  That more than anything should tell you to stay away until he learns how to play the game a bit better, and maybe works on his body some more.

He's six games into being around a good coach like Flip Saunders. I think you will see a different player defensively by year's end.

he was around flip all of last year
TP I stand corrected.

Still think he will be looking at a near max deal though.

youre probably right but i think just because of his size.

for what you originally said though, I think being around a great coach would do him wonders.  He has the tools to be an elite center, but I think hes just a dumb guy, no real basketball IQ whatsoever.

Flip Saunders, I think is a VERY over-rated coach, so I think your statement still stands.  Being around a great coach and having a good mentor will do him wonders, but I dont think he'll ever reach his full potential

Again, with all due respect, I think you vastly underrate what centers get paid in this league. The Steam Man was compared to the Birdman in an earlier post. The Birdman gets paid north of $4M a year.

Thanks, but between Bradley dribbling, Quis taking perimeter jumpers and Bass being the #1 option on offense makes me jittery. Bass has been great, but not when he's forcing shots as the sole scorer on the floor. It kills our ball movement.

He looks so much more like a shooting guard than a point guard.

I'm beginning to feel we're really lucky to have Rondo, for he seems like one of the few honest point guards out there. Most are either SG's that play point, or point guards that are being asked to carry the team by scoring.

He's usually money slashing to the hoop, but why has he decided that he's a jump shooter now?
He is been told to shoot it if he´s open.
Im glad that he is shooting it.. But can you please make some Marquis!

KG's D has been very encouraging tonight.  Swift rotations, closed off a lot of penetration.  Combined with Rondo and Bass, our defense looks quick again.

If it weren't for our abundant turnovers, the Wizards would be around 65-70 points.

Yeah it's really been amazing how he just keeps on being this good. Gotta remember he had his highest scoring season (on good percentages) just before we traded for him. And he was already like 30-31 by then. He averaged like 26 points with a couple of 50 point games.

Good win. Gotta win the ones you look at the schedule and say "Yup. That's a W."

Ray is awesome.

Rondo was good but darn those TO's are hurting the C's.

Pierce with a terrible first quarter and very good game thereafter.

KG with a very good KG type game. His passing was awesome tonight.

Steimsma was fabulous.

Bass' offense was great his defense on Blatche left a lot to be desired at times.

Dooling with a no how for the most part.

Bradley's defense was excellent. His offense consisted of standing in the corner and watching everyone else. Its how the play is drawn up, he can't do anything bout that.

Agree for the most part.

Rondo's turnovers do hurt, but a fair few of them could've just as easily (if people catch the frikkin' ball) been and-1's. I do agree they hurt though. 7, even if it was 4 or 5, would've been slightly too much.

Fair enough. But what we did wrong was mainly defensively. Kind of means we've made it hard on ourselves, especially since it was something we're usually pretty good at (transition D).

I think it's nothing a couple of practices won't cure. We've got 4 days off coming up sometime soon, I'm expecting a way better team at the far end of that break.

It's a weird season.

So much for my Spurs vs Celtics Finals.

Just saw the game. The C's had a hard time for most of the game but they turned it on when they needed to, in the 4th. Ray was brilliant once again (6/7 from deep :o), Stiemsma showed he was not shy as a starter (he really has a gift for blocking but he also showed he has a good mid-range shot), and I particularly like the Ray/Bass two-man game in the corner, it's almost unstoppable given their current accuracy!

3-3 with the Nets coming to the Garden and a day of rest, we're going to be back with a positive record soon!

That's the thing about the shortened season. A lot can happen to change the fortunes of any given team.

I thought we looked very tired from the previous game.  A lot of KG and PP shots were front rimmed though PP came through in the clutch with a three.   That is what we miss most about PP, he has an ability to deliver when the game is on the line.   This has always been a knock against KG.

Stiesmsa is a good shot blocker and was a pleasant surprise on offense.  I think he needs lots of work though on defense.  While he is an excellent help defender.  He struggles in positional defense and often gives the opponent too good of position in the low post.   Once they get their sweet spot it is game over for the defender.  McGee routinely got him too low.  He should get better though and this is an experience thing.  But he looked good for his first start overall.

Why no Sasha is he injured?  While I like not seeing him, I have to wonder.
