Key Matchups
Let's face it, every matchup is crucial in this game.  But I think some may benefit the Celtics the most if we can get the upper hand in them.

(http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/boston/RondoBos.jpg)  vs  (http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/lala/FisherLA.jpg)
Rajon Rondo vs Derek Fisher
We know that Rondo sets the tone and the pace for the Celtics.  As Rondo goes so go the Celtics.  When Rondo is aggressive on both ends of the court the Celtics are a much better team.  The Celtics need Rondo to be aggressive in driving to the hoop and in finding the open man.  He needs to set the pace of the game and keep the ball moving on offense.  Kobe will probably be guarding him most of the time rather than Fisher and the more active and aggressive he is, the more tired Kobe will be down the stretch.  If Fisher guards him, he should be able to get past him at will.

(http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/boston/KGBos.jpg)  vs  (http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/lala/GasolLAL.jpg)
Kevin Garnett vs Pau Gasol
Pau Gasol is the Lakers 2nd option on offense.  More often than not, Pau has played tentatively and lets KG get into his head.   KG has to keep the upper hand and keep Pau on his heels and off his game.  The Celtics will need KG's defense especially but they will also need him to hit those midrange shots that seem so automatic for him at times.

Honorable Mention
Kendrick Perkins vs Andrew Bynum
Perk needs to be aggressive in boxing out Bynum and in  going after rebounds.   He also needs to keep Bynum from getting to the basket on offense.   If Perk and KG can keep the Lakers' big men from their spots and from getting into a rhythm, the Celtics have a good chance of pulling out the win.

Paul Pierce vs Ron Artest
Pierce went off for 32 points in the first meeting between these two teams.  It would be great if Pierce could go off again in this game but if Artest suddenly finds his defense, Pierce needs to become the facilitator and find his teammates for open shots rather than try to force things.

Ray Allen vs Kobe Bryant
Ray did a good job of covering Kobe in the last game and will have to put out another good defensive showing in this game along with running his defender off of a bazillion screens to get open.  An added wrinkle in this game will be Ray's quest for the record.  He needs just 2 more 3's to take the all time 3 point record from Reggie Miller.  It should be a very emotional moment if and when he gets that record.  Hopefully it won't distract the Celtics but will rattle the Lakers.

Big Baby Davis vs Lamar Odom
Big Baby needs to have a huge game in this one.  With all of the injuries and the short bench,  Big Baby must come up big.  It isn't clear whether Lamar wears his new perfume or not, but regardless, he is a big part of the Lakers rotation and along with scoring,  Big Baby must defend Odom and keep him from having a big game.

Game Notes
Just 11 days after the Celtics beat the Lakers in LA, these two rivals meet once again, this time in Boston.   In their first meeting, Perk was just coming back and came off the bench while Shaq started.  Shaq failed to score, picked up five fouls and recorded two turnovers in 12:42 of action but he did pull down 6 rebounds.  Shaq is doubtful for this one and Perk is back in the starting lineup and with 8 games under his belt, hopefully is ready to man the middle in this game because the Celtics are very thin at center with Shaq, JO, and Semih all sidelined with various injuries.

Also in that game, Rondo had a very quiet first half but came alive in the second half to bring the Celtics back from a 7 point deficit and to lead them to the 13 point win.  The Celtics will need Rondo to be aggressive from the beginning in this one because the Lakers can't be expected to fold down the stretch in both games.  So the Celtics need to get off to a good start.

Kobe had 38 points in the first meeting between these two teams.  But, the key stat is that he didn't have a single assist as he tried to win the game on his own.  The Lakers as a team had just 10 assists while the Celtics as a team dished out 34 dimes.   A key in this game will be whether Kobe tries early to get his teammates involved and whether they respond.   It is always better for the Celtics when Kobe goes into hero mode.

The Lakers have won their last 2 games while the Celtics are coming off a loss to the Bobcats.   When last they met, the Celtics were coming off an embarrassing loss to the Suns while the Lakers were coming off an equally embarrassing loss to the Kings.  Both teams have had 2 days off prior to this meeting.  The Lakers are 5-5 in their last 10 games and 16-8 on the road while the Celtics are 7-3 in their last 10 and 23-4 at home.

The Celtics bench is depleted with injuries to 3 of their centers, Delonte and now Quisy.   The remaining reserves must step up in this one to give the starters enough rest to be able to execute down the stretch.  Adding drama to this game (as if it needed any more) will be Ray needing just 2 3's to take the all time 3 point record.  Hopefully that won't distract Ray or the Celtics and they will use it as incentive to  come out and take control and use the home crowd to carry them to a sweep of the hated Fakers.

Keys to the Game
Defense -  Defense is the key to winning this game and to winning Banner 18.    Perk and KG must be active and vocal on defense and they have to set the tone for the rest of the team.   If the Celtics want to win this game they must clamp down on defense.

Rebound
- Rebounding is second only to defense as a key to winning.  The Celtics allowed the Bobcats to out rebound them 50-37.  On the other hand, in the first game between these two teams, the Celtics out rebounded the Lakers 43-30 and it showed in the final score.  Rebounding is effort and desire and the Celtics must put out the effort on the boards and it will carry over in other areas of their game.

Run the Offense -  The Celtics must move the ball and run their offense.  When players try to do too much on their own and play hero ball,  they will rarely win.  When they move the ball and find the open man, they are very hard to beat.   The Celtics had 34 assists in the first meeting between these two teams while the Lakers had just 10.  Team beats the individual every time.

Bench Play - The Celtics bench must come through for them in this game.  Even though the bench is depleted, the players who are left have got to do their part.  The Celtics bench was outscored 44-15 by the Bobcats bench, which isn't even that strong of a bench.  They have to give more in this game because the Lakers bench certainly will.

Effort and Focus - Neither has been a problem for the Celtics in the big games so far.  They seem to lack both against the sub-.500 teams that they should beat but against the contenders, so far they have always come to play.   They have to give an extra effort in this one to make up for all the injured players.

X-Factors
Home Court, Records,  and the Officials
The Celtics beat the Lakers on their floor and now the Celtics have the home court advantage.  They have to let the crowd give them a boost.  Also, the hoopla surrounding Ray's record 3's may go either way.  That kind of thing can sometimes hurt the home team and can sometimes distract the opponent.   Hopefully in this one, the Celtics don't let it distract them from the goal and at the same time we can only hope it will be a distraction for the Lakers.   Finally, there is no doubt that referees can affect the outcome of a game.  If they let them play in this one, I like the Celtics chances, but that is a big IF!

This is a match thats going to show us all of strengths and weakness's. We are really going to show what we are missing with all these injuries. And as much as i hope to be wrong, i can't imagine Pierce playing as well as he did last time against them. He was flawless. Now with all the attention on Ray's record , ill bet my savings that they keep extra tabs on Ray all night long. Plus im sure Phil is telling Pau/Bynum/Kobe to drive and get fouled to get Perk off the floor. Pau/Bynum will have a field day with BBD at center.

This is going to be a scary game to say the least, and im hoping the C's rest has been filled lots of motivation since we are going to need every piece of heart this team has.

Best of luck C's, come out swinging. Start strong, end strong.

i am not sure the injuries will hurt us that much vs LA....shaq did zero in the first game and didn't play much. daniels minutes need to be figured out...but i think boston will be fine. not really afraid of anything this LA team brings. i expect gasol to shy away again...bynum will get 10-12 points...artest is just artest...which leaves kobe playing hero ball..and fisher will flop around like he does so well...

key to to control odom off the bench. other than him...there is nobody on the bench worth a crap....

lakers have nobody that can guard ray and rondo...if kobe takes ray...rondo will torch fisher...if kobe takes rondo...ray will run fisher ragged like he does everytime they play

I worry without Shaq/Semih about going with a three man big rotation, not ideal. But given the rest before and after shouldn't be a huge deal.

The match up I want to watch is how well Ron Artest plays. Paul Pierce beat him up badly, does Artest bounce back?

I think the key is how well the C's play defensively. You can't expect Kobe be so incredibly hot again, so does a second Laker do much offensively?

My feeling on this is make Kobe be the hero and beat them with floor balance - much like what was shown down in the Forum a week ago Sunday.

This Ray Allen 3 point record thing is a distraction. Let us hope that the game is the focus instead of Ray Allen's record.

The LA Lakers will try like the dickens to win this one in Boston and deny the Celtics the satisfaction of a season series sweep. Boston will try like the dickens to win and reinforce their HCA and maintain the best record in the EC.

So I think we are set up for a Classic and the TNT execs have got to be licking their chops at the TV ratings this game will command. This game is way too close to call.

I think LA should be the slight favourite to win this game due to the absences of Shaquille O'Neal, Jermaine O'Neal, Marquis Daniels and Semih Erden.

The Celtics will still have a decent chance of winning but I think LA have the slight edge.

Given the current injury situation and given that this team has only 6 players that it can depend on going into this game, I am going to sadly have to predict a Lakers' victory. Glen Davis as the only "big" guy off the bench does not give me a lot of confidence, and having to see Von Wafer guard Kobe Bryant makes me feel even less good. I will be at the game and would love to see the Celtics win, but I think it is asking quite a lot given the injury situation. In addition, since Pierce did not show up for practice today given he is sick, my guess would be he also will not be 100 percent. The Lakers have much more depth than the Celtics right now and it will be enough for them to win the game by 5-10 points. Hope I am wrong, but I think I am being realistic.

Hey there.  I think I've seen your posts on some of the threads when I am doing Comments from the Other Side.   I'm not Celticinorlando but to answer your question,  for every 1000 posts you get a star.

I feel for your Cavs.  I was hoping they would do well this season.  I have been a Celtics fan since 1969 so have suffered through more than a few bad seasons here as well.  Hang in there. TP for sticking with your Cavs and not jumping ship.

All I can do is wait for this throwaway season to be over. In the meantime, I might as well pick another title contender to root for. So I'm rooting for the Celtics.

Do you live in Florida? The home state of my two least favorite teams? What's that like?

I definitely agree that the Celts will play well. However, the lack of bodies will be the difference at the end of the game. I fear Odom is going to have a huge game tomorrow.

not really seeing why the lack of bodies will make much difference. only one we are missing will be daniels from the first game...honestly shaq didn't do anything vs the lakers...not much of a loss there...and baby was on the floor in crunch time vs bynum and did a great job. i think von will have to step up.

Yes, I live in the FL Panhandle...aka hurricane central :)    I love it here because we have seasons but it doesn't get too cold in the winter and we don't get snow.

Of the two teams in Florida, I've always kind of liked the Magic ever since they came into the league.  Of course I don't like them when they play the Celtics but otherwise, they are my favorite home state team.    Their GM Pat Williams is a great guy and I've met him a few times and really like him.

I have always disliked the Heat and this year that dislike is approaching Laker Hate proportions.   I'm glad you picked the Celtics to root for this season while your Cavs rebuild.

reason people are worried is because Marquis pretty much is our bench beside Baby...right there along with Shaq while he didn't do a whole lot it goes beyond numbers with him obviously hes a big body you have to respect and not leave alone. also with him in Bynum/Odom/Pau will NOT be able to score easy buckets last thing we need is for them to get going I don't care how old he is or how much minutes he logged well miss him and Marquis for sure

Actually I met him totally out of basketball context.   Pat was a speaker at a few teachers conferences that I attended and he spent a lot of time talking with us individually.  He has 16 children (4 biological and 12 adopted) and does a lot of speaking engagements on raising children and on leadership.

I think the key is how well the C's play defensively. You can't expect Kobe be so incredibly hot again, so does a second Laker do much offensively?

40 for kobe is a walk in the park for him. I'm expecting him to play the same, if not better. I'm worried about us lacking fire power, I don't see the captain getting 30 plus again. He was freakishly in the zone last time. And now especially if he isn't feeling well. We haven't had anyone score over 30 in a game yet have we? We are going to need the best from everyone who can play or this will be another shameful loss this season.

I think our starters will all play well.  My concern is the bench.  With all the injuries, it is the guys on the bench that have to come up big, especially Big Baby and Von Wafer. Doc has to get enough out of the bench to give the starters some rest or they won't have enough left down the stretch.

40 is a walk in the part? Then why is he only averaging 25.4 ppg and only has two 40 point games this season?

His 41 is his high points mark against the KG/Ray Allen/PP Celtic's team.

Oh and we've had two 30+ point games this season, both by Ray Allen. (one against Miami and one against San Antonio)

We are short handed it will be a hard fight.  I think we can win but LA will be looking for revenge from the last game.  La though has issues too, Artest is imploding. Our big depth is critical at this point.  Ray will break the record, I think.

We are short handed it will be a hard fight.  I think we can win but LA will be looking for revenge from the last game.  La though has issues too, Artest is imploding. Our big depth is critical at this point.  Ray will break the record, I think.

We have 4 All-Stars, we have literally no bench for this game, so its going to be up to our starters greatness to come out and win this game for us.

Going to be critical that Perkins and KG stay out of foul trouble, when either of them have to sit, our length and rebounding goes to zero and we will get dominated inside.

Man, we litearlly have 5 bench players injured yet our "old" starters are the ones continuing to carry these injured bench players.

if rondo attacks like he did vs orlando...boston will win easily.

Obviously you took that a little more literally than i meant it. He will be scoring his usual leaps and bounds , im more worried in how much we can score. Especially with this new found news that paul isn't feeling well, and he was our scoring rock last time around. Ray,kg and especially Rondo MUST turn it up along with Nate actually knocking down most of his 3's this time around. I just have this feeling in my stomach that this is going to be a rough game.

Kobe scores his points, but he does so inefficiently against this current Boston Team:

His season TS% is .558. Kobe's scoring isn't a huge worry, even last game he was unreasonably hot. He was well covered for most of his shot attempts. I worry more about defending the glass and stoping the Lakers secondary offensive options.

Hopefully Ray/Rondo can pick up any scoring slack we have if Ray is off.

interesting game from an emotions standpoint

Lakers are kind of coasting and distracted by blockbuster trade rumors but will likely feel motivated to get back at the C's and prove that they are still contenders

Celtics are very short-handed, distracted by Ray's record, and perhaps feeling like they've already proven their point in L.A. - not saying they don't want to beat LA every time, but I wonder if they'll have that extra push when they need it most

and matchup-wise, I'm worried about the paint tonight

all that said, I wouldn't be surprised with a win or a loss tonight - should be a good game

loss tonight pretty much assures boston of being behind miami in the standings..they play detroit...which would make sunday a battle for first place going into the all star break...only good thing is boston's toughest month was Feb. and miami's toughest month is by far march.

i don't mind a 2 seed but would like to avoid the bulls in round 2 of the playoffs...give me orlando or the hawks....i don't really think boston gets anything the rest of the year out of JO and daniels. i think those guys are finished. west will be big and they need to get shaq back...add a SF and sign Sheed for the playoffs

I don't think getting caught staring at the standings is worth it. There are still a lot of games to go, especially given that we play the Heat two more times.

Official Report
(http://www.weei.com/sites/default/files/ref_0.jpg)
Scott Foster
Foster has officiated over 720+ regular season games and 25+ play-off games. Foster has 2 years officiating experience in the CBA. Prior to becoming an official, Foster modeled for department store mannequin mold makers. He came into the public eye as the best friend of former referee Tim Donaghy. In his book, Donaghy describes Foster as a very honest and good guy who knew nothing of his gambling. However, recently Donaghy described Foster as a company man who will do what is asked of him to keep his seniority among refs. Foster was also part of the Finals game 7 officiating crew that called the final quarter so one sided so hopefully he's not back to do the same in this one. The Celtics are 1-1 this season and 4-6 in their last 10 games with Foster on the court. The win this season was an 84-81 win over the Sixers at home where the Sixers shot 10 more free throws than the Celtics. The Lakers are 9-1 with Foster in their last 10 games. His home W/L record this season is 24-20

Derrick Collins
Collins has been an official in the league for 9 years. He has experience in the CBA five years and in the WNBA three years. He has also officiated 7 years on the collegiate level and seven years on the high school level in California and Louisiana. The Celtics are 2-0 with Collins this season and 7-3 in their last 10 games. The Lakers are also 7-3 with Collins in their last 10 games. His home W/L record this season is 23-18.

Scott Wall
Scott Wall has been an NBA ref for 14 years. He has 4 years of officiating USA basketball, 6 years experience at the college level and 5 years experience at the high school level. The Celtics are 3-0 this season with Wall as an official. He was also on the crew that called the Philly game where the officiating was suspect. Both teams are 6-4 in their last 10 games with Wall. His home W/L record this season is 25-11.

Miami is a much bigger game for the C's, they've played a lot better since we've last played. So its a much more telling contest.

It also would put a loss on the other team, and will help determine the tiebreakers. Miami is likely to have a better conference record than the C's if we're tied in the standings. That means that we need to win one of the two to secure the tiebreaker.

I agree.  If the Heat are in first place for the A/S break, we'll all have to listen to the blathering and slobbering all over the Heat all weekend.  The Celtics have to beat the Fakers and the Heat... The players who are left standing on the Celtics have got to step up their games knowing that they are so short handed.  They had 2 days off before this one.  And have 2 days off before the Heat.  They can do this.  I know they can.  I don't even want to hear the words 1st place cHeat.

Anyone else concerned that artest might actually show up this time?

These are two tough games, and i would love to win both of them to silence the media but i wouldn't be surprised given our lack of players if we slipped up these next 2.

Its a back and forth arguement, i can't wait to see the game actually started so i can stop see-sawing.

I can't lie, at all. Our only legitimate center tonight is Perkins? Really? Not even Erden can backup Perkins tonight? HARANGODY will have to play significant minutes? No Daniels? Even Pierce is sick. Where's our bench, man?!

I won't say we won't win, cause of course we have a chance. We just need to come out STRONG, I mean possibly a 10 point lead at the end of the 1st quarter, cause I don't know if we even HAVE a bench that can bring us back if we fall too far behind. But, we do have our starters, so the chance to get out to a big lead are great.

If we can do that, we have more than a chance of winning at home. Maybe being at home will help guys like Wafer and Gody, and maybe...MAYBE Nate.

I confess I'll be at a Dipset concert and won't be seeing the game...yeah I know, some hardcore Celtic fan I am, huh?  :P

I think LA should be the slight favourite to win this game due to the absences of Shaquille O'Neal, Jermaine O'Neal, Marquis Daniels and Semih Erden.

The Celtics will still have a decent chance of winning but I think LA have the slight edge.

i agree..but i just get a sneaky feeling boston will play well.

Not having Daniels is big against the Lakers. Shaq had six rebounds and 2-3 blocks in the short time he played against the Lakers.

baby can hold his own....wafer is going to have to play some SF...i expect we see a rondo, nate, ray, baby and perk line up at times..lakers bench isn't that strong other than odom. he is the toughest match up...and boston has had 2 days off before and after this game...guys can burn a little longer if needed...

in the first game, erden, shaq and daniels were near invisible...and boston won by 13...i think wafer can get boston some looks..and he has been driving..so not worried about that...

boston will be fine tonight. they know what this means...even if it is regular season. honestly..who gets the lakers points other than kobe? gasol? maybe..but KG is fine vs him..Bynum? artest? fisher? i still honestly don't think LA can stop Rondo when he pushes and drive the ball like he did vs orlando

Since the C's are already 1-0 vs the Lakers, this one isn't as important as Sunday's game vs the heatles.

And it's irritating that one of the Game 7 ref gets assigned again (although Joey didn't affect the game in LA, the 40% winning percentage that FlCeltsFan mentioned is clearly not representative of the C's winning percentage the last 2 years - but combined with the 9-1 the Lakers have with him, well)...

Pretty reasonable to predict a C's loss tonight, given the injury list, Foster, and the Lakers being desperate.

We're 1-0 against the lakers and that doesnt count

The laker game doesnt count because we already proved we could beat them or because they are in the west?

Yet we're 2-0 against the heat and that one counts?

Sorry to be unclear - I meant because the Lakers are in the West, and the C's only lead the Heat by a half game at the moment.

Secondarily, I would like to see the C's sweep the heatles for psychological reasons should they meet in the playoffs.

Von's ability to make smart accurate passes off of the drive has really surprised me.  That pass to Perk was fantastic.

Agreed here.. Surprisingly good things happen when he drives. He's still not hitting that shot of his with enough consistency, but he's improved dramatically since pre-season.

On pick and rolls, I think Doc will have his bigs drop further into the paint and bait Bryant/Fisher into taking the mid-range J instead of opening up the lobs in to Bynum by showing so hard.

Offensively, continue to punish Fisher with Ray, hope Paul gets something going and work KG in the post or low picks for Rondo.

Great half for Von Wafer.

First off Congrats to Ray Ray!! ;D

Wafer has been a big spark. I always had a good feeling about this kid, I'm glad to see him getting quality minutes.

I felt the energy in the beginning was amazing which is why we got off to a great start...slacked off to close the half which is unacceptable. Especially against the Lakers.

PP has been off but he has the flu so he gets a pass, he's doing well on defense.

I'm not a Nate fan this season but my GOD we don't need another injury!!! Get better ASAP!

We're home, the crowd is lit, 24 more minutes of good solid basketball and we should be fine. As always the first possession of the 3rd quarter will tell me all. I feel like Kobe's up to something...the excessive passing is not like him. Defense on him this half has to be STELLAR.

My thoughts exactly. What the heck is wrong with these guys? I realize that L.A.'s a good team and will make some runs, but the C's are offering almost no resistance at this point.

Note to Perk: Don't dribble. Ever. And watch out for those little guys who walk right up to you and slap the ball out of your hands, even though you should see 'em coming from a mile away.

Edgy start to the second half.

LA made up that 8 point deficit awfully quick. I thought the C's responded fairly well from that point on though ... well, until Ray picked up that foul and had to head to the bench. That swung the momentum back over to LA.

Lakers very slow bringing the ball upcourt and in initiating their offense ... you'd think they'd want to put as much pressure on the C's as possible while they have some momentum instead of letting Boston set up it's halfcourt defense. Odd decision(s).

Wow. I said earlier I expected the Lakers to win tonight given the Celtics depleted squad, but being down 2 right now with that depleted squad is hopeful, not hopeless.

They could still easily lose, and it could be a double digit loss, but I do not see this sluggish Lakers team running out the 3rd into double digits.

Down 4 at the start of the 4th, just gotta hope Ray can play with his 4 fouls or we're done, not enough shooters. I fear we might not be able to make a comeback because we lack enough healthy bodies (the Nate injury is killing us), it would be a bummer to lose because of that.

Im usually not one to complain about refs, but this game is a prime example of how horrible the NBA referees are about calling a game one way during one quarter or half, then doing a complete 180 in the next quarter or half.

it's completely ridiculous and it makes the game unbareable to watch.

I'm sick of hearing about it. Refs do not determine a game. Play through it.

David Stern needs to go. His standard of refereeing is highly suspect. I'll repeat this even if we win. Not fixed but manipulated. It's so obvious and it really lessons the product, probably the exact opposite of what Davie Boy wants. I think Herr Stern may believe the average NBA fan is stupid. Oh, wait... Maybe the average NBA IS stupid, at least if they can't see the flaws in the officiating.

KG is off tonight, poor decision making and a lot of misses. He should have scored or tried to on that last possession instead of kicking it out.

Anyway glad to see we're close and hustling, our D is getting better so we have a shot but we have to make these wide open threes or layups.

im not complaining that the lakers are being favored by the referees.  I'm complaining that the rules have changed in the 2nd half.  What wasnt a foul in the first half is now, and what was a foul in the 1st half isnt.

Keep it consistent. Because it makes the game look like its being deliberately tampered with or that the refs are just idiots.

Celtics just don't have any energy or any depth right  now.  We got a big boost of morale when Ray broke the record, but once that run out the Lakers caught up with us.  We can't beat the Lakers without any depth - especially when Kobe is playing well.

We're entering the roughest part of the season right now.  It's going to be a real struggle to maintain pace to stay one of the top 2 seeds in the East.

Hopefully the All-Star break will help, and perhaps Danny will bolster our depth somehow before the trade deadline.  Chances are, though, we'll be without HCA at some point in the playoffs against Miami and, if we get far enough, the Spurs (or maybe even the Mavs or Lakers).

Boston might've just blown their last good chance. KG gets stripped instead of making a layup that would've cut the deficit to 1, then L.A. scores 3 in a row to bump the lead to 9 again. Pierce is all out of sorts, and KG's pretty much a nonfactor on offense. Great effort, guys.

3 minutes left for them to wake up. Doesn't look good though.

It took a great effort for a healthy Laker team to beat us tonight. And the injuries keep eating us. I'm not worried. At all. If we can lose the injury bug at some point (hopefully soon) we will watch Banner 18 being hoisted aloft in October/November. I firmly believe this. We are our own worst enemy.

And "Way to go, Ray". So proud that he's a Celtic. NBA players are not role models. Walter Ray Allen is a role model in so many ways, even as an NBA player.

I don't feel too badly about this loss, because the Celtics had their chances despite being seriously outgunned.  If we meet the Lakers in the Finals, I can't imagine we'll be playing without all of Shaq, JO, Semih, Marquis, Delonte, and Nate.

Remarkable, with all of the depth we had to start this year, that we're trying to win games with 7 players right now...but that's the reality we're facing.

I hate losing to the Lakers too, but it happens. This is one of the few times they have lost to the Lakers that I can handle it without too much pain. Depleted team and a fired up Lakers team. Meh. The Lakers still could not put us away for good until late even with some questionable play by the Celtics.

Sunday? Whatever. If they lose, they lose. I am not worried about the Celtics. At all. They will be healthy in the postseason and Danny will do something to strengthen the team soon.

Stop whining, take it like Celtics fans. We played, we lost.

Not good down the stretch.

Paul & Ray have open looks from 3 to tie it, neither one goes down

KG has a layup to go down 1, gets stripped and we're down 5

PP with the steal to try to cut it to 3, throws it away.

Just didn't have enough. The JO signing is just killing us right now.

I hate the Lakers so much [dang] really wish we would have taken this one gotta go out with only 7 players against the Heat not a good thing. Really need to make a deal when the deadline comes for a scorer off the bench. I really hope someone like Rip comes to Boston so we can have someone who is reliable. Nate isn't, BBD hasn't played well in awhile in my eyes, Von isn't reliable, West will be when is back but will taking the ball up and have to dish it out instead of spot up shooting. I just hope Danny can pull something outta you know where for a good player.

This is an easy 10+ win if the Celtics had half of their bench.  The rest of the regular season is going to suck unless Sheed comes back and Danny somehow ships Nate or Jermaine O'Neal's corpse for someone like Hamilton.

Danny should seriously consider adding a backup SF asap. No point waiting for Marquis...homecourt advantage is very important...we can't expect them to go on a similar playoffs run like last year.

Bad calls on both ends, really. I don't think Ray's night was ruined, though. Ray now owns an NBA record that may never (who knows?) be broken. That is pretty special in and of itself.

Also, agree 100% that there is no reason to whine and cry right now.

Nobody here cares if we win 62 games or 58, and don't give me that nonsense that we can't beat the Heat in a 7 game series without HCA. Miami *has no* HCA. We can win 2 games there in a playoff series.

And the Lakers aren't going to be top seed either. So let's suck it up and remember that it's a long haul to the Finals.

I'm still extremely proud of this team...Wafer played well, Ray with the record....Nate/Shaq/Semih/Marquis/JO/West not playing.

Not a bad game, considering.

Me neither, Man.

But I think the reality of Jan 30, 2011 is more likely to happen once we get Marquis, Delonte, and Shaq back.

JO and Nate will help, too.

Remember last year? It seems like we were banged up pretty bad then, too.

And then we got healthy right before the playoffs.

This time? I think the All-Star Break will be our resting period.

Gotta agree with monk here. We are a team in dire need of some bench help. I know, we thought we picked it up during the offseason, but we got some injury plagued guys to sit and be cheerleaders (or, just sit in their comfy new homes in Boston instead, and watch the games from there).

I'll take either Corey Maggette or Corey Brewer. Really good offensive player in Maggette, Skiles likes to play guys that focus on Defense and so he's been underused with the Bucks. When he has played, he still looks like the same Maggette that has slashed and scored, and gotten to the line.

Brewer would bring more of a defensive mentality, wouldn't be bad, and has a developing offensive game as well. My first choice would be Maggette.

Someone needs to make a poster about Ray shooting the record breaking three over Kobe.  I would buy it.  Sadly that was the only highlight of this game.  We shot poorly, played passively and let the Lakers walk all over us.  A game of two halves indeed but really the bleeding started in the second quarter.

Don't worry, not happening.

I think SAS or LAL make it out of the west. Probably Lakers. Which is fine if we can only get a break from the injuries. If not, getting to the Finals will be very, very difficult. I do think, though, that we would beat LA in a seven-game series each and every time, even if we have to do it on their floor. No more game 6 injuries and 4th quarter decisive game letdowns, of course. San Antonio? I think that series would be closer, because we play the same style of hoops. Lots of low scoring games. Anyways... We need to get healthy. Soon.
