Title: Today's Official Report for Game 6 5/28
Post by: FLCeltsFan on May 28, 2010, 09:35:48 AM
Today's Officials are:
Monty McCutchen
Home Team W/L 51/26
Home Team win % in Playoffs 90%
Calls 46.8 fouls per game
% of fouls called on Home Team 50%
McCutchen has been officiating games since 1993 and wears number 13. McCutchen missed the 1998-99 season with a ruptured Achilles tendon. McCutchen is a former elementary and middle school teacher and is fondly remembered by his students as a really nice guy. In searching for information on him, I found a Cavs' blog that blamed their April 4 loss to the Celtics on the officiating of Monty McCutchen. That was the game where Mike Brown was ejected and the Cavs made a furious comeback but fell short. Other than that, not a lot of controversy about McCutchen. His only other Celtics game in the playoffs was the Celtics game 6 win over the Cavs.

Mike Callahan
Home Team W/L 50/25
Home Team win % in Playoffs 63%
Calls 47.4 fouls per game
% of fouls called on Home Team 49.8%
Callahan has officiated over 940+ regular season games, 65+ play-off games and 5 NBA Finals games. There were a lot of complaints about Callahan's calls in the Spurs/Mavs series. His only other appearance in the Celtics' postseason was a win over Cleveland in game 4.

Ken Mauer
Home Team W/L 40-33
Home Team win % in Playoffs 50%
Calls 43.8 fouls per game
% of fouls called on Home Team 49.1%
Mauer has been a referee since the 1986-87 season and has officiated over 1,200+ regular season games, 70+ play-off games and 3 NBA Finals games. Mauer is very quick to call technicals and in one game, once ejected Doc less than 3 minutes into a game. Let's hope Perk controls himself in exemplary fashion in this game because Mauer has a quick trigger finger. No doubt about Mauer's character, he was charged with tax evasion and obstructing federal tax laws for receiving substantial taxable income from 1989 through 1994 and failing to declare it. He was one of the refs in the controversial Miami/Dallas Finals where the foul calls were totally lopsided. He has called 3 games already for the Celtics in the playoffs, Game 4 in Miami and the Game 3 debacle against Cleveland which were both losses, and Game 1 vs Orlando, which was a win.

This makes me a bit nervous.  All the refs are in the top 10 for the 2010 playoffs in terms of percentage of fouls called on the home team, though they are not all that high in terms of overall fouls.

Thanks for the report, Fl! (TP)

I don't have much to complain about with McCutchen and Callahan, but Mauer is the worst, and at the very top of my "doody" list. Let's cross our fingers that he's not in his regular anti-Celtic mood. Ugh! (Or maybe Monty and Mike will balance him out a bit). :P

I think he looks more like a crooked used car salesmen.

I used to hate Mauer, but he hasnt really bothered me at all lately, Ive barely noticed him at all when hes done Celtics games throughout the playoffs and regular season.

He definitely beats Salvatore or Bavetta, but Id be lieing if I said I didnt cringe when I saw Mauers name.

As little as I care to defend a referee after the way they have let Howard get away with his usual thuggery during this series, there's more than one side to the Mauer vs IRS story:

Kenny Mauer was also one of the officials in the infamous "Tommy Heinsohn Goes Berserk" game several years back.

"This Kenny Mauer should go home to his wife...because nobody here loves him!"
