Boston Celtics (45-24) at Utah Jazz (45-25)
Monday, March 22
10:30 PM ET
Game #70, Road Game #37
TV: CSN-NE, FSR-UT, NBA-LP 760-761
Energy Solutions Arena
Few teams in the NBA can say that they have had the same amount of success as the Utah Jazz have had at Energy Solution Arena. Since the team’s move to this arena more than 15 years ago, the Jazz have had only one losing season. After the Jazz moved from New Orleans after the 1978-79 season they began playing at the Salt Palace. For just over a decade they played at the 12,0000 seat arena. As the 1990s approached, a new modern arena with more seats was needed for the Jazz. Owner of the team, Larry Miller, funded the $93 million cost to construct a new arena.
Construction began in May 1990 and was completed in record time, 17 months later. Originally known as the Delta Center, the Jazz played their first game at the arena on October 4, 1991. Located on the western part of downtown Salt Lake City, the arena has a seating capacity of 19,911 that includes 668 club seats and 56 luxury suites. In August 1999, the roof was significantly damaged by a tornado, causing $3.75 million in damage. Energy Solutions bought the naming rights to the arena in November 2006, thus it is known as Energy Solutions Arena. The Utah Jazz have been one of the best teams in the NBA while playing at Energy Solutions Arena, appearing in the playoffs 13 times in 16 years.

Key Matchups
(http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/boston/RondoBos.jpg) vs (http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/utah/DwilliamsUta.jpg)
Rajon Rondo vs Deron Williams
Rondo has yet another tough matchup with one of the top young PG's in the league. Williams is strong and quick and Rondo will need to be aggressive on both ends of the court.
(http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/boston/PierceBos.jpg) vs (http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/utah/MilesUTA.jpg)
Paul Pierce vs CJ Miles
Paul Pierce has been hitting his stride in the last few games. His aggressiveness has gotten the team off to a good start and his clutch play down the stretch has willed the team to the wins. Hopefully Pierce will continue his strong play in this one.
Honorable Mention
Kevin Garnett vs Carlos Boozer
KG has been looking good in recent games and should continue his improvement in this game. He has a height advantage over Boozer and hopefully that will allow him to get his shot off over him.
Game Notes
The Celtics are currently leading the season series, 1-0; Celtics and Jazz split the season series 1-1 in the 2008-09 season
Rajon Rondo led the Celtics with 20.0 points per game last season
Paul Millsap led the Jazz with 20.0 points per game against the Celtics last season
The Celtics are 7-4 against the Jazz since the 2004-05 season
The Celtics are leading the all-time series 45-35 with the Celtics 29-11 at home
The Celtics beat the Jazz 105-86 in Boston back in February. However, at that time, Deron Williams was just coming off an injury and they had 3 other key players out as well. On the other hand, The Celtics had Big Baby and Tony Allen out so neither team was at full strength, but the Jazz definitely were depleted by injuries.
These two teams have almost the same record and are both 7-3 in their last 10 games. The Celtics are 24-12 on the road while the Jazz are a very good home team with a 28-8 home record. The Celtics have won 4 in a row while the Jazz are going for their 2nd straight win. Both are also relatively healthy for this matchup.
Both teams are fighting for playoff position and so are motivated to get the win. Boston is in the 3rd spot in the East, just half a game up on Atlanta and 3.5 games behind Orlando. They would like to at least stay in that 3rd spot. Utah is 4th in the West and are 1.5 games behind Dallas for 3rd and 1.5 games ahead of Phoenix for 5th.
The Celtics have already won the first 2 games on this 3 games in 4 nights road trip and it would be huge for them to close it out with another victory. It will be a tough game but if they play like they have been recently, they should be up for the task.
Keys to the Game
Defense Over the past several games, we have seen the Celtics return to their trademark lock down team defense. They will need to continue to play this kind of defense as they go down the stretch in preparation of the playoffs. Defense becomes more and more important the closer they get to the post season.
Rebound
We have seen a much better effort on the boards in the last few games and that needs to continue. They need to continue to put out more effort on the boards to limit second chance points and fast breaks for the Jazz.
Bench
The Celtics have a deep bench and a talented one, and the Celtics will need them to contribute in order to allow the starters to rest while still maintaining or widening a lead. The bench will be the difference between a close game and a blowout.
Don't Over-rely on the 3
The Celtics have at times relied too much on the 3 point shot. They have players who can slash to the basket and players who can score inside and if the 3's aren't falling they need to go to the basket.
X-Factor
Focus
The Celtics are coming off 2 big wins and heading home after this one. It would be easy to lose focus. Hopefully, the Celtics have their eyes on the bigger prize in the playoffs and will continue to focus on each game to give them the best position as they head into the post season.

tp Fla ... for some reason i think this might be a good game for sheed.
-
TP for the work on the thread.
I actually think Utah is going to be very tough to defend against... in particular Boozer & Williams. Our frontline isn't very quick, and Boozer is lightning fast around the hoop. Deron Williams is pretty strong and might cause some problems that way.
Should be a great game!
-
Game is on 3/22 by the way. You freaked me out!
-
Thank you for the great set-up FCF ... TP once again. Let's hope we continue this winning streak on the road. ;)
-

Sorry for the mistake. Fixed now.
-
I know it's still 23 hours away but I am getting psyched for this game as the C's recent play is starting to get me pumped.
TP to FL for another great thread
BTW game threads lately have become a fun place to be again. I don't know if there is anyone to thank for this(probably the Celtics first and foremost for better play but that's not who I mean), then thank you!!!
-

It's fine hehe, somehow I thought I might've missed the game or something.
Hopefully we can keep the streak going, but the Jazz always give us a tough game.
-
Celtics have had their share of struggles in Utah. Somehow, I think they will keep their recommittment to defense and rebounding going and try for a perfect road trip. That would send a message to the rest of the league that WE MUST BE RECKONED WITH.
-
I would be absolutely stunned if the C's didn't come out with another full effort tonight. Looking for a solid win over another really good team on the road.
Always looking for good signs that the team has picked up its play and is committing to winning games.
-
Lets keep the good basketball going.

Exactly, this is what I want to see. I'm not going to get crazy if they lose tonight. They are after all playing one of the top 7-8 teams in the league on the road.
But, if they come out and play good defense and move the ball and generally give an excellent effort but for some reason the shots don't fall or the calls don't go their way or the Jazz just play better than they do, I can live with that and still be very, very encouraged about the team. It's kind of the way I felt after the Milwaukee loss in Milwaukee. The C's played really good ball. The Bucks simply played better that night and to me, that was an encouraging sign.
-
(Thanks FL. TP.)
WANTED: *Celtics victory.
*Team work, focus, energy and ubuntu.
REWARD: *A very happy and hopeful fanbase.
*Momentum heading towards the playoffs.
*Regained swagger.
*Improved record and 5 game win streak.

TP once again.
-
That was a dark night in Salt Lake City last season...and not because we lost a game. I'm such a Debbie Downer. I don't know why that came to mind.
-
It's probably going to be a close game but considering how focused and good the C's have looked recently I think we end up winning this one too.
Hope nobody gets injured and KG gets out of this arena OK, though (superstitious, me? meh).
TP FL and let's go C's!
-
i actually think boston wins tonight.

i actually think boston wins tonight.
Wow, such unexpected optimism!
TP for you, sir. And here's hoping you're right. :D
-
Let's get this one. Get it good :D
LETS GO CELTICS!!!
-
Huge advantage on the wings for the Celtics. That will likely be the deciding factor in the game.
Either they show up and they do their job and vastly outplay the opposition or they fail to do so and give Utah a great opening and opportunity to win the game.
-

I was thinking the same thing but I won't mention it.
It will be nice to win this game and have KG play well...I'd like some vindication.
Sheed or Perk or KG absolutely must keep tabs on Okur..that guy will pop threes all day long if we're not careful.
TP for FLCeltsFan for Post!

I am very much looking forward to the Rondo/Williams match up. I'm looking forward to Rondo causing some havoc on the defensive end against him. I love how Rondo can dominate a game in so many ways without scoring

True that.

April. They said it before; April. He'll be shooting well by April.
And honestly, his field goals, well, I haven't got the stats, but whether he hits 'm more often or not; it seems like he's found his spot and isn't afraid to take them anymore.
That's a whole lot of comma's in one line.
-
I'm breaking out the buttkicking good luck hardware for this one. I'm ready to see the upward trend continue and the days of disappointed to fade into obscurity.

I really want this one more than any game in a long time, after those classy Jazz fans celebrated when KG hurt his knee last year (check the clip - two-thirds of the arena stood up and cheered).
There isn't a more hateful fan base in the NBA. They make LA fans look classy (but not clueless - LA owns that category hands down).
-
We'll probably see some cross matchups, with KG covering the perimeter oriented Okur and Perk staying with Boozer.
Williams strength has really caused some problems for Rondo in the past. However, Williams' PT seems to be limited (shoulder) over the last few games as he has not played more than 32 minutes in 4 games.
Watch out for Paul Millsapp! He's the type of player that gives our team fits (Craig Smith with a lot more talent) and has been on a tear over the last week. In our early season meeting he has 13 rebs (5 off) in just 23 minutes.
GO C's!

I have a feeling it's all going to come down to which team's shots are falling from behind the arc.
When the Celtics beat the Jazz earlier this year, the Jazz couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from 3 point land. I have a feeling they won't have such woes this time around.

Not the first 2 possessions you want to see.

Make it 4.

Great job by Perk in every way there.
-
Pierce...looks...incredible
-
C'mon guys, c'mon c'mon!
-
That's an awful foul call. I don't care how often it happens, that's just awful.
-
Lame call, good call by the announcers.
-
Lame call, good call by the announcers.
Total lame call and it started as a kicked ball.
-
Looks like the refs are on a mission again.
-
Finally a call!!!
-
KG hittin' early.
-
Lets go Celtics! clap clap, clap, clap, clap!
-
Way to come back Ray - but that was one ugly shot :D
-
Looking real good early.
-
Looking reallllyyy good right now. Paul looks especially good. I think it's safe to say, he's healthy for the first time in a while.
Knock on wood, of course.
-
The announcers are not horrible and irritating!
-
Anyone see that Celtics headphones ad banner at the top of the page? Sweet!
-
Where's moiso? KG is no longer running with his head down looking at his knee. He would be very happy!
-

The skullcandies? I can attest, Skull Candy doesn't make a very good product. Pretty good, but amazingly overrated.

Nope. I removed all the adds with a firefox addon :]

This reffing is reminding me of the time Dick Bavetta won the game for them last year on this court.

The Refs are bringing it for the jazz tonight.
-
Excellent take by Ray.
-
And so the refs and the Celtics continue their best-of-82 series.
-
Wow, Davis just played Millsap.
-
Go Baby!
-
Good job, Mr. Davis.

Haha, we're ahead, WE'RE AHEAD! :D

I hear ya. Ive tried some of their headphones and they stink. But slap a shamrock on anything and Ill buy it.
-
BBD immediate impact.
-
Just when I thought Pierce was losing it.
Glad to see him doing it with drives and aggressive play.
Nice play by Ray and BBD.
-
I think I've heard the "uno uno" story from every single road announcing crew this year.
What a play by Pierce driving to the hoop.
-
Wow, who can see the Celtics making that play 2 weeks ago? Not me. Just great basketball.
Rondo with the tip.
Ray reading it.
Davis hustling to get in for the and-1.
Great, great, great.

Haha yea.. They certainly have a great looking product, at least. I own a pair of gold/rasta Ti's. They look cool, at least.
-
When we play like we are right now, refs or no refs, we can beat anyone! I love when we play like this.
-
I had to take care of some stuff and missed everything up until now...how we doing?

I can sum it up real short; like we were doing the last few games.
Seriously Nick, we look solid.

Playing hard! looking good. refs keeping the Jazz in the game.

Gotta hold a decent lead throughout the game....Jazz will make a few mini runs..how we respond to those runs will determine the outcome for us.

Solid like.. Gold, would you say? If you catch my drift ;)
-
I hate when Rondo leaves his man like that.
He likes being at the top of the key too much.

Let's just say...
Utah cant handle the Truth

Glen having one of his games!
-
BIG BABY!!!!
-
Glen Davis is impressing me at the moment.
-
Wow. Davis is playing his best game of the season at this rate.
Travel????!!!
-
BBD is scoring 240 points per 48 minutes so far.
-
This is the BBD I loved in the '09 playoffs.
-
Thanks guys! TPs for all of you, you're the best.

Davis with 7 points and going to the line.
He really is becoming a force off the bench. Love him. Hate him. Hate that he gets his shot blocked a lot. Whatever.
There's no denying that he has been a rather special bench player for this team for the better part of the last month.
-

5 seconds!!! NO? A timeout!! You're kidding me.

He's progressively getting better as the season continues.
-
Glen having one of his games!
I turn on the game and see BBD bulldoze a handful of Jazz players on the way to the basket, and he gets the foul! Me likes.
-
Get a third clock going for those inbounding situations. It was a longish five count before the time out
-
5 seconds!!! NO? A timeout!! You're kidding me.
These refs can count to 3 on us but not to 5 on the jazz!!!!
-
Shoot - thought this started at 10. Saw the last few minutes and I'm really liking Baby's play so far. Team still looks crisp out there.
-

Counting to 5 is definitely at least like close to half as hard as counting to 3.
Yeh.

Yeah, Jazz is a team I can respect if mostly for Jerry Sloan. And those fans should know well-played basketball.
-
Where was this Boston team a while ago? We've been up by the same numbers, but I'm getting back that feeling of comfort. That feeling of "these guys are playing hard ball, and not giving up the lead anymore".
I haven't had that in a while.
-
Get a third clock going for those inbounding situations. It was a longish five count before the time out
Those calls should be made by a time keeper or a forth Ref that does 3 second calls and 8 second half court and 3 second lane calls.
-
Baby is really taking advantage of the Jazz lack of shotblocking. Nice effort from the Cs thus far although they have been a bit sloppy.
-
Nice drive by Daniels but he has to finish that
Fins for 2...nice pick up Danny.
-
Uno Uno going to work.
-
3 fouls on Boozer
-
What a shot by Milsap.
-
This is Nate's kinda game. Watch out for a mini explosion.
-
Oi, Nate can't be running into the backcourt and pointing there.
-
Travel or Jump Ball!
-
Uno Uno going to work.
Baby looks more like he weighs Uno, Uno, Uno!
-
That shoulda been backcourt.
-
Looks like the bench is back in :]
-

I haven't had that in a while.
The rumour is that they were holidaying in the "save it for the playoffs" land.
-
Big shock: 5 bench guys looking bad against a good team in hostile territory.
Nate made 2 bad plays that we can't afford for him to make. Can't be caught sleeping like he was.
-
Great pass by Daniels.
-
BBd hulking up. ;D

Beginning to buy in to that.
Bad calls on both sides now btw.

Baby thinks he's still competing with Leon Powe.
He saw Leon's stat line last night and said "I can do that one better!"

If playing those five guys the way Doc is using them means that the starters are fresh enough to go on 27-11 runs to end games, like in Dallas, I'm okay with that
-
Loving Baby out there - he's singlehandedly getting them into pretty deep foul trouble. If he can put it together like this consistently, we get very dangerous.
-

If only we had a guy who was like a starter, but could come off the bench keeping the starting-5 fresh and together. Maybe an old all-star type who's past his prime, but can still be a real contributor to the team in limited minutes.
Oh...
Wait...
-
Miles just torching Finley.

He saw Leon's stat line last night and said "I can do that one better!"
Great minds think alike: I said the same thing in the chatroom, except I had BBD saying "Watch this!"
TP! : )
And Nate and Finley getting hot, or what?
-
This is Nate's kinda game. Watch out for a mini explosion.
Im tellin ya.
OK, I'll give ya the TP after the 3.
Edit: After THAT 3, everyone should give you one!
-
Wow Nate.
I love that spark plug dude.
-
We are beginning to gel nicely. Great to see it...now if only Rasheed decides to get out of his funk. He has looked slow and lazy in every game...even Michael Sweetney will look like Usain Bolt playing against him.
-
This is Nate's kinda game. Watch out for a mini explosion.
Im tellin ya.
OK, I'll give ya the TP after the 3.
How about the 2nd?
-
TP Greenbean!!! You called it.
-
NATE!
-
Nate Robinson! Word AAPP!
-
When Nate's shot is on, it just doesn't matter where the shot is taken or where the defender is: it's going in.
-
that last shot by Nate was super-sweet !!
-
This is Nate's kinda game. Watch out for a mini explosion.
Im tellin ya.
I'm loving that dude!!! Go Celtics!!
-
That five bench player unit is starting to round into shape.
-
I can't touch Nate right now. I might burn alive!!!
-
When Nate's shot is on, it just doesn't matter where the shot is taken or where the defender is: it's going in.
With MF out there we have shooting on the second unit. I love the second 5. They keep the starters fresh and they can play.
-
We continue to throw terrible passes and the bench can't generate any looks in the paint, but the 3s are sweet.
-
Wow, what a bailout foul!
-
Utah crowd first to boo.
They must lead the league in Metamucil.
-
sheed is so lazy he's not even trying..
-
Wow, what a bailout foul!
Yeah bad call. Bad ju ju
-
Alright - I am very, very ready for a KG alley oop.
-
Stupid foul by Milsap!
-
That's like the 7th shot that's rimmed out for us.
-
Man, these Jazz are gonna start fouling out in the third quarter.
PS - smooth move Perk!
-
Well, ball don't lie.
-
Okay we had better come out HARD in the 2nd half. The refs need to even the score a bit.
-
I think the Jazz have legitimately fouled on 98% of these calls.
Jazz announcers just ignored Deron slapping Rondo's head.
-
Yeah but the refs are loving us so a few rimmed out shots are okay.
-
I think the Jazz have legitimately fouled on 98% of these calls.
Jazz announcers just ignored Deron slapping Rondo's head.
Wouldn't necessarily agree with that :x
-
Jazz may be playing an entire unit of guards by the end of the game if the fouls in their frontcourt continue.
;D
-
LOL @ Rondo PP and KG :D
Bloody awesome.
-
Great move there by KG and Paul!!!!
-
Woah...
Ok, nevermind. thought Pierce and Rondo were arguing.
-
Okay Rondo, warp 9! ENGAGE!
-
KG and Paul:
"Ubuntu Ubuntu bunto UNBUNTO!!!!"
Over and over until Rondo shut up
-
These refs suck both ways!
-
There ya go Rondo, way to get back at 'm. Assist.
-
I think the Jazz have legitimately fouled on 98% of these calls.

Wouldn't necessarily agree with that :x
Only one I didn't agree with was Davis taking it up on a double clutch and not getting touched.
-
Jazz may be playing an entire unit of guards by the end of the game if the fouls in their frontcourt continue.
;D
I could live with that.
-
Deron Williams really puts his elbows into people. I don't like that.
-
There ya go Rondo, way to get back at 'm. Assist.
Yeah, Rondo is mad now!!!
-
Still playing a little sloppy. You get the feeling if they could just clean it up, the Celtics could really pull away.
-
LOL @ Rondo-Pierce-KG.....I sorta missed what happened there...did Deron do something?
-
Still playing a little sloppy. You get the feeling if they could just clean it up, the Celtics could really pull away.
They will, I'm sure of it.
-
There ya go Rondo, way to get back at 'm. Assist.
Yeah, Rondo is mad now!!!
KG and Paul channeled his energy into a positive. I feel inspired right now...no matter how this game turns out. These guys are playing like brothers.
-
Wow, this color guy might rival Tommy for homerism.
I am starting to worry we've got a classic ref makeup half coming though. It's happened here before.
-
LOL @ Rondo-Pierce-KG.....I sorta missed what happened there...did Deron do something?
Rondo wanted a charge, Pierce and KG didn't want a tech.
-
LOL @ Rondo-Pierce-KG.....I sorta missed what happened there...did Deron do something?
Donno, hoping Rondo will now switch "teh pwn" on.
-
Love the moment with Pierce and KG cleared him out of the play. Reminds me of 08 type of stuff again. The fellas are officially locked in.
-
There ya go Rondo, way to get back at 'm. Assist.
Yeah, Rondo is mad now!!!
KG and Paul channeled his energy into a positive. I feel inspired right now...no matter how this game turns out. These guys are playing like brothers.
TP for giving me goosebumps. Brothers indeed.
(Nah, not sentimental, just cold here as well ;D)
-
Didn't know nba hire clowns to be refs
-
There ya go Rondo, way to get back at 'm. Assist.
Yeah, Rondo is mad now!!!
You don't want to get Rondo mad!!!
Rondo!!

Rondo mad and wearing Pierce's jersey!!!

-
Beautiful
-
My lord, is that the '08 team????!!?!?!
-
USG and Kiorrik
oh ok....thanks for the reply :)
and wohoo @ Rondo's steal and Ray Ray's 3 pointer !!
-
Kudos to Ray for being able to hit a shot with this extremely choppy game.
-
Ugly game but the C's are fighting hard.
-
Refs are, admittedly, helping dig the Jazz a hole now.
I wonder if there's any connection to the fan's reaction. When for all the world it seems like the home team is getting the calls and the crowd boos on an obvious one (say, Korver in the circle on a blocking foul), they maybe get a little p---ed.
-

Back atcha my man!
-
Rondo needs to cool down a bit. Obvious frustration foul there.
-
another no call for Rondo a a cheap call for DERON ( I'm so good but my team never goes anywhere) Williams.
-
This thought is giving me nightmares... I believe it was exactly at this point where KG got hurt last year at Utah.
-
Rondo hasn't been able to get in rhythm and Ray's been a little off. Great to see the C's still thriving.
-
This thought is giving me nightmares... I believe it was exactly at this point where KG got hurt last year at Utah.
No negative thoughts.
-
Celtics got out of control on offense at the end and really let the Jazz get back in it.
-
Hawks gonna lose. :D
-
This thought is giving me nightmares... I believe it was exactly at this point where KG got hurt last year at Utah.

I've got some negative thoughts about that night. Weren't the Jazz fans cheering when KG got hurt?
-
Rondo hasn't been able to get in rhythm and Ray's been a little off. Great to see the C's still thriving.
It's because they are playing with championship energy. When they do that they dont need their horses. They will win with their experience. Thats what happened in 08 when Ray struggled for 2 rounds and Rondo wasnt the player he is today.
-
Dang...not gonna count.
The Jazz really rallied in the last couple of minutes. Gotta be ready to go in the 2nd cause there's a decent chance we've got a few BS calls coming our way.
-
Bummer. The C's should have had a bigger lead there. CJ Miles continues to make tough shots inside.
-
Dang...not gonna count.

I feel that coming so hard. That's what's making me apprehensive about this game -- it has the potential to devolve into a dithering mess of incompetent refereeing.
-

I don't remember, I've honestly blocked that infamous night out completely. A psychotherapist could put me under hypnosis. but those memories are buried DEEP.
-
Hawks gonna lose. :D
Milwaukee is going to be tough in the playoffs. They are playing well. I hope we move up and Atlanta has to play them in the 1st round.
-
Thought Ray made a few poor plays with his behind the back dribble in traffic and driving before he dribbled. Rondo went on tilt a little bit it seemed. I've never seen him more mad at a ref before.
-

Yeah TP to both of you. I said the same thing earlier. I like our chances with the energy level right now. This is a great team were playing right now and I havent felt that they have had control for one minute of the game.
-
[edit] ehh. thought better of generalizing. mbad.[/edit]
Dude with the little bell needs to get over himself, though.
-
Guys, they're calling us "classy" over at the Utah game thread;

read the bottom few posts.

I agree. C's need to finish at least 3rd in the East.

Good point, can't remember for the life of me.

Thought Ray made a few poor plays with his behind the back dribble in traffic and driving before he dribbled. Rondo went on tilt a little bit it seemed. I've never seen him more mad at a ref before.
I think Deron's physical play is getting into Rondo's head a little bit.
-

Yes, I believe they were cheering that. I want any memory of that game that I have digitally removed from my brain.
-

It's because Williams is one of the chosen ones who gets all the calls and is spoken of as if he's the second best point in the NBA. When Rondo is the better player and he was in front of Williams and he ran over Rondo and it was a bad cheap call. He needs to channel his anger better.
-

I think Deron's physical play is getting into Rondo's head a little bit.
Might be. Deron is areally tough matchup for Rondo. He might have taken this defensive assignment personally and is getting frustrated in the way he is being called. He cant really complain though given the way the refs have called Utah's frontcourt.
-

Except for the lull at the end, I'm definitely really happy with our energy and execution though. If we can play like that in the 2nd half it shouldn't matter what the refs do.
-
I guess I understand now why Rondo keeps saying he likes to keep an even keel demeanor on the court. When he's emotional like he is today, he's really unpredictable... and perhaps not for the better.
-
what the heck, the game has already started?!! The first page of the thread says "10:30 PM ET"... is that not 10:30 Eastern Time? I based my whole night around tuning in around 10:30.. uggh.
-

Dang, man. : (
Here's a TP for your troubles. But don't worry, we're playing the Jazz well, but to me this game starts in the 3rd.
-

Ouch, you're missing a good one. Second half should be even better!
-

It does, that sucks man... but you should always check the official website for times. Mods are human and mistakes happen unfortunately :)
-
I'll leave it to the rest of you to bring the guys home, I'm not gonna make the second half. I REALLY hope you enjoy it! ;D
-
Nice game from Glen and Nate so far..
-

TP. I will definitely enjoy this one.
-
What's up with Quis lately? In this stretch seems like he's been playing kinda poorly.
I honestly think the reffing could be a net negative for us. We deserve to be winning this game, but the calls we're getting are firing up the Jazz.
-
Bad start...
-
9-0 run to start the half sucks
-
Knew a run was coming...looking for the response
-
Man, I tuned in late and the Jazz are up 4? How do you not call a timeout?
-
Rondo's Tic Tacs?
-
Bunch of beads laying all over the floor. This being Salt Lake City I'm assuming that means some girl flashed her ankle.
-
Seriously, Perk, why put it on the floor?
Seriously, Doc, why not call a time out?
-
Where the Edited. Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. our defense gone?
-
This is way too good a Jazz team to come out this flat and timid and think they can turn it on later and win.
-
I'd like to see Pierce back to taking it to the rack. Nice start.
-
Not worried yet. Guys still look composed.
-
Dear lord, Rondo!
-
They're making their run..we weather this and we can pull out a w here..
-
Are you kidding me? I cant believe he just did that!
-
Rondo's really improved his FT shooting.
-
Are you kidding me? I cant believe he just did that!
what happened? (not able to watch the game, Im in Indiana)
-
Team needs to collect itself.
-
3pt barrage...
-
Celtics start the quarter up 5. It's a 10 point Jazz lead before Doc calls a timeout.
-
We are letting them take too many open shots.....not good
Come on C's...play some defense and good things will happen
and finally...about time Doc calls a time out.....lets not let those guys get too hot off their momentum
-
Okur is pumped up right now. He wont be that good in the 4th. It's a game of runs. A month ago we would have been toast. Lets see what this team is made of.
-
I'm still waiting for the C's to come out the locker room. Way too flat this second half.
-
Are you kidding me? I cant believe he just did that!
what happened? (not able to watch the game, Im in Indiana)
Rondo settled for a 3 very early in the shot-clock with no one defending him... bricked it of course.
-
Took a 15 point swing to finally get Doc to call the timeout. I'm very happy with how he does his thing motivation wise and preparation wise, but I still think his rotations and in-game reaction time leave a lot to be desired.
-
As I suspected, as soon as the Jazz start hitting their outside shots it becomes a tough game. Better hope they get cold again.
Hopefully we're not seeing the return of the Celtics of yester-month.
-
Utah is hitting everything right now. We start to clamp down on em and they just keep dropping shots. We're in deep trouble if they keep shooting like that.
-
A foul just because a guy is big. Classic NBA ref incompetence.
-
Okay refs were even. Can we play now?
-
I knew the refs would flip the script in the second half.
They were way to good to us in the first.
-
Flop J Miles!
-
Refs can u just let these guys play...and quit calling a foul on everything
-
Wow! these Refs are killing us!!!
-
::)
Is about all I have to say right now.
-
Refs have turned the game around completely now. Good to see the NBA is still the NBA.
-
You can't win when the refs intentionally killing you time after time.
-
Hrm, maybe things haven't changed as much we had hoped.
:-\
-
Utah is hitting everything right now. We start to clamp down on em and they just keep dropping shots. We're in deep trouble if they keep shooting like that.
Yeah, even Baby!!!!
-

Veteran teams play through runs. Phil Jackson never calls timouts during runs.
I would do the same thing. Why give a team that just exerted a bunch of energy making a run a break?
-
Well, the Millsap elbow was coincidental so I agree with no foul call there. I'd like to see a replay of the blocking call they just got us on, though.
-
Good to know that in the NBA, you can break someone's nose, or elbow them in the eye and then proceed to score an and-one.
Awesome.
-
Still too early to count us out yet..Utah has to sustain this run for another quarter. We're taking their best shots right now..still in this thing.
-
The refs are definately making up for some of the calls that went our way in the first half.
Even besides that though, the Jazz are just playing better in this 3rd quarter. It's that simple. They're ball movement is much better and they're hitting shots. Combine that with us missing shots and you have a 5 point lead at the half turn into a 10 point deficit.
Usually I'm quick to blame the Celtics. But the Jazz came out with a fire they didn't have at the beginning of the game.
-
I went to get me some steak.
Came back to this :p
Jeez. C'mon chaps, we were up a while ago.
-
Can the bench step up? Big stretch coming up.
-
Great play by Quis.
-
Jazz have brought there own Refs tonight. That's some stinky Refs out there.... WOW!
-
Aaand the BS calls have arrived. Looks like they were just waiting to apply em to Baby.
Nonetheless, we can come back on this team. Gotta buckle down here...
-
presently surprised by the unbiased Jazz TV crew. Not a lot of Homerism
-

I would do the same thing. Why give a team that just exerted a bunch of energy making a run a break?
I disagree with that strategy. I read a study one time that fished out data from ESPN play by plays and showed that timeouts do, in fact, stop runs or slow them down compared to not calling them. I can't for the life of me find that study now.
-
Is Milsap's elbow hurt?
-
There ya go Quis and Shelden..one basket at a time..let's chip away at this
-
Sheed the last thing we need is u bricking 3 pointers
-
It would be nice if Sheed could at least hit one 3 every now and again.
-
Wow.. was deron williams really crying for a foul there?
-
I really really really don't care what you guys say about Quisy, I love him.
-
I obviously don't watch the jazz all that much. Is Deron Williams always this much of a complainer with the refs?
-
The C's will be fortunate to win this one. There was no energy at all in that 3rd quarter. I thought we were over that crap?
-
Ugh. I'm trying not to lose all that love I gained from these last couple games, but a third quarter collapse like this is just so...typical.
-
I obviously don't watch the jazz all that much. Is Deron Williams always this much of a complainer with the refs?
Yes! Cause he's the " Second best point guard in the NBA" or so everyone keeps giving him the calls that way.
-
Decent finish to the quarter...we let up a bit and they hit some crazy 3s. This is still a winnable game though. Hope the refs have gotten the makeup calls out of their systems...
-
I obviously don't watch the jazz all that much. Is Deron Williams always this much of a complainer with the refs?
I've watched a few Jazz games this season and I've seen him complain just as much if not more.
-
missed some of the game.. Who got elbowed?
-
Bench showing some signs of life..good thing. And one more quarter to go?
Win is Doable.
-
missed some of the game.. Who got elbowed?
Baby, by Millsap.
-
energy wasn't the problem imo, execution was. in fact i think they got a little too keyed up and into the up and down of the game, lost their patience and focus a bit.
every freaking three pointer dropped for the jazz. if that keeps up i dunno what we can do.
-
The C's will be fortunate to win this one. There was no energy at all in that 3rd quarter. I thought we were over that crap?
They broke Baby's nose and got the bad call on PP at the other end and one. There was energy but Utah is getting mad love from the Refs all of a sudden!
-
Shelden is a spaz.
-
energy wasn't the problem imo, execution was. in fact i think they got a little too keyed up and into the up and down of the game, lost their patience and focus a bit.

Agreed. Energy wasn't the problem at all. They had it, but didn't execute it well. Plus the Jazz just had more.
-
CONTACT!!!!!!!
-
Sorry, Donny, Finley is the only shooter?
Nate?
-
We will have to agree to disagree. That last rebound by the Jazz is exactly what I'm talking about.
At least try and jump!
-

It can be pretty demoralizing when the other team hits their 3s even when you've played decent defense.
-
Ref script: Could it be called a foul on the Jazz? Let them play.
Could it be called a foul on the Celtics? Whistle away!
-
There ya go Finley! One three at a time!
-
Ref script: Could it be called a foul on the Jazz? Let them play.
Could it be called a foul on the Celtics? Whistle away!
Seems right.
-
Nice job by Quis the only guy interested in attacking the basket.
-
Dear Marquis,
Please be agressive more often.
-
Daniels
-
Is Sheed's 30% from 3 pt land a typo? Seems wayyyy too high.
-
quis, make your FTs!
-
Quis !!
there we go...get aggressive
-
Time for the starters to get them back in this game.
-
Dear Rasheed: I swear to God if I see you brick yet another 3 I will [this message censored by the CelticsBlog staff]
-
quis, make your FTs!
Rondo, Perk, Q, TA all are terrible from the line.
-
Daniels best half of the season. Excellent play.
-
Is Sheed's 30% from 3 pt land a typo? Seems wayyyy too high.
He hit his first 90 missed his next 210
-
We could still win this ugly hunk of a game.
-
Fun fact: Only once in Antoine's Boston career did he shoot as badly from 3-point land as 'Sheed is this year.
-
come on guys...lets get some stops
-
Lets go C's..Buckle down on D and get a good three minute run to get some confidence back!
-
Dear Rasheed: I swear to God if I see you brick yet another 3 I will [this message censored by the CelticsBlog staff]
Seriously!!
-
getting more defensive boards would help...
-
Bad things happen when you don't go aggressively for rebounds.
-
Where was that foul?
-
Now it's just getting to the point where they aren't making stops...you can't trade baskets.
-
No technical on that? Are you serious? He treated the rim like it was the monkey bars.
-
*Celtics need to make a run*
*Jazz make a run*
Well, good to see we're back.
-
down 14...I dont feel good bout this anymore
we aren't stepping it up at the defensive end...and in return we are giving up silly turnovers
-
and that's probably the ball game, folks. [dang it]. horrible 3rd quarter did us in.
-
Well, that's all I need to see.
Another game against a contender...another third / fourth quarter collapse.
Oh well.
-
A tale of two halves once again.
-
Well boys, Maybe we still have some work to do >:(
-
Looks like game over. Tough loss. The wheels just came off.
-
Too many layup for the jazz, poor D in the 2nd half. Still time for a comeback.
-
No technical on that? Are you serious? He treated the rim like it was the monkey bars.
If there was a tech they'd be shooting it!!!!
-
I think this game is over. 14 pt lead and the momentum is still on the Jazz' side.
-
Well, that's all I need to see.
Another game against a contender...another fourth quarter collapse.
Oh well.
You didn't even see the last game.
-
I think I jinxed it.
Good things since the first half;
- I had steak
- with brie
- My girlfriend called and had a great job interview, thinks she's got the job.
Sweet! :)
More info asap :p
-
Can't give up these turnovers like that.
-
Too many layup for the jazz, poor D in the 2nd half. Still time for a comeback.
The Refs didn't let us play!
-
Fun fact: Only once in Antoine's Boston career did he shoot as badly from 3-point land as 'Sheed is this year.
Given that Rasheed is shooting a career low, and he's a decidedly average three-point shooter, that's quite a bad sign for someone who used to take 10+ threes per game.

It was nice while it lasted, guys.
At least the Celtics gave us a week or two of hope before the post-season. If they face the Bucks in the first round, don't expect them to make it to the second round without a truly grueling series.
-
and that's probably the ball game, folks. [dang it]. horrible 3rd quarter did us in.
The genius Doc refused to call TO in 3rd.
-
That was a heck of a play by Boozer.
If there's a comeback happening, it has to start right after this timeout.
Tale of two halves almost.
With 1-2 minutes left in the 1st half C's were up 12. Since then they have been outscored by 25.

Now I'm starting to see why Hollinger rates the Jazz as one of the top contenders.
-
Pff, Ray Allen how do you feel?
That just about does it.
But again, I can't say it enough, tonight was NOT an energy problem. The Jazz just played so much better and made shots.
Doesnt help that we've gone ice cold in this half either

Okur can make a three with a blindfold on....just one of those nights. :(
-
Very disappointing to see the Celtics collapse tonight. They really have been playing well and had seemingly turned a corner. It's so deflating to see them get absolutely dominated in the second half again. It seemed they were beyond this type of game but obviously not. They have been blown out in this half and a few bad calls weren't the cause.
Okur has killed KG in this half he just isn't quick enough anymore to keep up.
Tough game to watch === never thought the C's would put up a game like this anymore...

Deron Williams is unbelievable.

Well, I don't know..Bucks playing above themselves right now, and we have definitely turned the corner, no matter what the outcome of this game, I think.
No need to be overly concerned..
-
It'd be cool if we had a center who could hit threes ::)
-
How in the world are we leaving a 7 foot 270 pounder open for threes??
He is kinda hard to miss, lol...
-
Oh dear not what I was hoping for when I signed on :-\ This has to be the 3rd or road trip where the last game has been a blowout. 5 more minutes we can do this. Let's not fall back into bad habits.
-
Just keep fighting that's all I ask.

The Jazz are an excellent team, and very tough at home. This is just one loss in the middle of a road trip. The Dallas win was nice. Lets see how the C's bounce back in the next one.
Yeah the Bucks will be a tough match for anyone in the first round.

Really? They beat one decent team (Hou) and one very good one (Dal). Other than that - the last two months have been bad. Does tonight look more like an aberration or just another chapter in the story we've been watching in 2010?
-
The funny thing here is that there is still some time left if we can clamp down..
-
You can't beat a team that shoot 3's like that.
-
Irritating we couldn't get this one. This is Utah's Super Bowl, though. We won't see Salt Lake City again. I'm sure the squad will miss it.
-
PP is back to his old self. ;D Such an old man @ 32. ;D
-
celts play good defense, utah hits a long 3.
celts get a fast break, turn it over.
the way it's gone.

No offense by I'm sick and tired of all the Jazz contender talk. They can't win on the road when it matters, they've had the same team for what? 3 or 4 years now? Every year they're everyones dark horse and every year they stink it up in the second round. Are they a good team? Sure. Are they a championship contender? No, they never will be with the other teams in the west combined with the makeup of their current team.
Oh and that miss from Paul iced it. They had a legit comeback chance. Now its officially over.
-
My neighbor just knocked on the door and asked me to stop yelling... what can I say? Celtics get me riled up...
-
Still time for one more run...just one more.

I'd say an aberration..and knowing the Celtics this one isn't over yet...just need a few stops, a few buckets.
We've turned the corner..you can't close the book just based off of this game (which isn't over yet).
Okur has hurt us big time this game, though..just as I was worried about on pg two or three of this thread.
-
Tough to win when CJ Miles and Paul Pierce switch bodies.
-

Agreed. The Jazz are very good, very tough at home.
...on the road.... in the playoffs? Not so much :)

+1....the score is not reflective of our play and energy. The Jazz have made shots(a lot of 3s) and fortunately for them..they all fell in.
-
You can't beat a team that shoot 3's like that.
You mean you can't beat a team if you give them open three pointers all the time?
-
This one is over.
-
Very impressed with the minutes of the starters from the boxscore. Doc is doing a nice job resting them up for the stretch run. Although I wouldn't mind a little more Perk and a little less Sheed.
-
Ray 2-8 from 3 for 15 points. Pierce has 11 points.
It will be tough for the C's to beat anyone with those numbers.

Call me a sucker, but I like TA over Q. Q is bluh, TA is reckless.

I'm sorry..I'd still take Perkins over Okur or Bargnani.
Dwight or Shaq would shred both of these guys. Not Perk.

You can't win them all and we never gave up and we played them tough.
-
Well, the next few games will determine whether the last couple of weeks are just an aberration or not.
If the C's lose like this to the Nuggets and the Cavs this week then there won't be any question that they are a solid step below the best teams in the league.
-
I feel like the Jazz brand of "physical" basketball is a lot of fouls assuming the ref can't call everything. Especially when they are at home and every call that is made against them gets booed.
-
Rondo's 3rd & 4th fouls were turning points. He lost control a bit and then the team was rudderless.
The bench wasn't quite there for us, either.
-
Seems like we won't be winning this one.....but am glad we got 2 outta 3 wins.
I agree we let them have open shots and they got hot from the 3 pt line..and when that happens its tough to beat the team (esp when we aren't hitting our shots)
But despite the loss am not going to start ranting on the team....Nuggets game is coming up and that too at home...and I expect the guys to bounce back with a win.
Go C's !!
G*night everyone.
-
The sky is not fallling. I just wanted to point that out before the threads start up :D

We will crush Denver

We played well tonight, IMO... we just got beat. It happens. But I def liked our energy tonight.
-
I don't like the ref. wearing the no. 73 jersey. >:(
-
I'll call this one the Okur show..he was the one who hurt us. Deron didn't shoot particularly well..Boozer played well, but that's it.
Certainly would've been nice to have this one, but we'll show up for Denver.
Pierce didn't play well?

Shockingly the 1st thing that comes to mind when I remember that game from last season was how brutal the officiating was. Even by Bavetta's standards it was bad. And I hear tonight wasn't the great either.

They earned the ones after the run they made which gave them confidence. In the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half the refs were in full "make up for our crappy calls on the home team" mode.
Edit: Not to say that the Jazz didnt deserve to win this game. It's just that if you go through this thread, you will see that everyone here saw alot of make up calls coming in the 2nd half...which they got.

Williams and Okur dominated in the second half, and the Jazz dominated the 3rd and 4th quarters. Just gotta tip your hats to them. They couldn't miss a shot when it mattered.

I will give the Utah crowd credit. No alcohol, a bunch of mormons...and yet they're insanely energetic. They boo the crap out of the refs when a call doesn't go their way and cheer louder then ever when the team does well.
They, meaning both the crowd and Jazz, seem to be a bunch of talkers. I mean, the celtics talk more than any team in the league so I know this statement isn't really needed. But at least we talk, and if we can clamp down, we can back it up and actually maybe win a title.
This Jazz team can talk, play as good as they possibly can, and won't even come out of the second round. Talk it up Jazz, enjoy your home regular season wins.

This game was LOST with about 2 minutes to go in the 1st half---C's had EVERYTHING going---and they RELAXED....Let the Jazz finish 8-0 to get back in it.

Chicken or the egg. I though the Celtics were really aggressive and energetic in the first half AND for the first 5 minutes of the 2nd. The refs then started calling ticky tac fouls and not rewarding aggressiveness but rather punishing it.
See? You can spin it either way.
Bottom line they lost in a hostile environment. To beat the Jazz at home you have to play with the energy they did in the first half AND not turn the ball over. They got 1/2 right. Im still encouraged and I like what I saw tonight. Unless this game puts them in a tailspin, this team is still trending up IMO.
Come on C's, prove me right.

Problems of tonights game:
1) Utah's intensity of the 3rd Qtr
2) Turnovers
3) 3 point defense
4) Referees
We got our butts whipped in Utah just like every other team that plays there at Poor Energy Stadium.

Bad second half defense and bad shooting from Ray, Paul, and Rasheed and a lackluster performance from KG and you have a loss.

Forget the refs, forget the lack of a timeout bu Doc to start the second half, the Celtics just got out hustled and out muscled and out shot from the 2 minutes lewft mark of the first half on.
I can't forget those Refs they were the mvp tonight.
Every they call pro Celtic in the first half went anti Celtic in the second half. In the end, the calls were about even.
-
Rondo's 3rd & 4th fouls were turning points. He lost control a bit and then the team was rudderless.
The bench wasn't quite there for us, either.
This team goes as Rondo goes. I'm not too thrilled about that fact.
No disrespect to Rondo. Deron Williams is on another level. The guy is a beast. Hopefully Rondo can be a consistent force in the future.
There were games when Rondo dominated DWill as well. Rondo let DWill get into his head in this game, and he went on tilt. Can't let that happen.
At the same time - the help defense wasn't there. It's obvious that Rondo cannot guard Deron Williams by himself when Williams is determined to run Rajon over with his physical strength.
Run over is right, as in to charge!

Yep -- every time the Celts lose it is on the refs. ::)

I'll call this one the Okur show..he was the one who hurt us. Deron didn't shoot particularly well..Boozer played well, but that's it.
Certainly would've been nice to have this one, but we'll show up for Denver.
Pierce didn't play well?
Are you serious about Williams? He completely controlled the second half.
Deron was 5-14 from the field. He made half of his points from the charity stripe.
And yet - he still completely controlled the second half.
Good Point. Can't argue with that.
-
The ONLY guy on the C's who Completely shuts down Okur----is---SCAL, but he's in street clothes.
Deron Williams entire game, is running as fast as you can into guys, and getting the foul call on contact.
I don't mind losing to the Jazz----I just wish these buttholes would play like this against the Lakers-!!
-
This Jazz team can talk, play as good as they possibly can, and won't even come out of the second round. Talk it up Jazz, enjoy your home regular season wins.
We love rubbing it in, don't we? ;) TP.

Please. The Jazz earned that win.
I guess. I saw a badly called game that was taken out of the players hands in every way. You see it as a fair contest were the better team won. I hope we meet the Jazz in the finals!

LOL...my thoughts exactly. TP.

eh, 3rd game in 4 nights on the road---the REAL test to see if our team is gonna challenge, comes on Wednesday--!

Not every time. Every game in the NBA is not fairly called in my opinion. But you see it as a fair and even league so we disagree. Ok.

Sure - not every game is called perfectly. But the best team won tonight. No doubt.

We'll see in May and June who the best team is and I bet anything it won't be the Jazz!

Yeah he is an awesome player and it's about time he started getting credit for his defense. I cant think of another guy in the past 20 years that is like him. Strong, fast, shooter, passer, smart.
I mean hes not the 2nd coming of Magic or Cousy or anything just a really unique player who competes pretty hard.

At least Atlanta lost too!
-
Doc just said that they lost in the last 2 minutes of the 1st half----up 13, we stopped playing and let them right back into it.......sounds familiar.
-
I hope we don't get too harsh with our criticism tonight....4 days back we would have gladly accepted the 2-3 road record. The energy was still good. A guy named Okur was hot from beyond the arc....and unfortunately he happened to be on the opposition's roster. No biggie.

If Doc thought it was all on the players why did he go way out of his way, by clapping for like a minute, to get tossed and show up the refs. It was a hard night on the road against good shooting and poor calls. You can't win them all.....
-
We let the Jazz finish the 1st half on an 8-0 run, and start the 2nd half on a 9-0 run....Game Over.
But, 2-1 on this trip was [dang] good.

For sure. Wins over the Mavs and Rockets is fine by me. We're still playing a lot better than we were several weeks ago. One loss doesn't really change that. It happens.

I only caught the end of the game so I won't criticize yet but I wanted to note that a lot of games have been lost because of someone getting hot beyond the arc. The 3 point defense has been an Achilles heel this season worsened by the fact that we're not shooting as well from there ourselves. I think if we get that under control we'd be in much better shape.
-
Well, considering the unfortunate thing that happened to KG last yr when we visited the Jazz, I'll take this loss.
As long as KG didn't hurt himself on a freak play, I'm good.
Need every man up for next 3 months. Mid-June is a long way away.

We're pretty good at 3 pt defense. 2nd in the league behind the Lakers. We were honestly running out on their guys for most of them(especially Okur) and they were still Onions.

I know you said you got in late, but honestly the first 5 minutes of the game were horribly reffed in Utah's favor. I remember thinking when the game was 13-12 that it should really be 17-6. Pierce got fouled on 3 consecutive plays and he couldn't get a call. He hit 2 of the 3 shots, btw.
People are saying we got the calls in the second quarter and I didn't really agree at the time. (I didn't think the reffing was one-sided in the Dallas game like a lot of people here did so different eyes see different angles on the game and you gotta respect that. A good example is that a lot here wanted a foul on Millsap for the elbow to Baby's nose, but I saw it as incidental contact that can happen on a clean play.) I only noticed one call where Davis got a generous call on a double pump in that second quarter. Boozer and Millsap really were hacking.
Ed Malloy is a guy I have questioned for a while, but it's clear this team lost focus on that Deron Williams drive where he bullrushed Rondo. The team has to keep its cool and Rondo played on tilt after that point from my view. You have to expect bad calls in a basketball game and this team has been pretty good about it for the past few months.(even Sheed!)
-
Just saw the game... disappointed but not that much.
I hate the job the referees did though. We were getting every single call for the most part of the 2nd quarter so you knew that Utah would get all the calls in the 2nd half. Unfortunately they started getting these calls at the end of the 2nd and they reduced considerably our big lead of 12 points. I hate it when refs strike over for one team during entire stretches, this is so frustrating. For example, Utah couldn't touch a Celtic player at some point and yet in the third it was OK for them to throw elbows at Baby or get steals on every play because the refs decided it was time to help Utah... just let them play the game, [dang]!
The laggy broadcast didn't help me to enjoy this game, very ugly one I thought. The Jazz (or, just Memo actually) got on fire in the 3rd. I liked that we answered their big run though and we could have tied the game if Rondo didn't lose the ball on a crucial play. I thought the ball was clearly out of bounds on that play, yet they let Memo initiate the fastbreak and from then on we fell down again to never come back.
The bench made me think we could get back multiple times when we got back to 7 points differential but we couldn't get any stops or rebounds when we desperately needed to... the Boozer block on Ray summed up the story of the Znd half. :-\
Anyway, any loss is a bad one but it's really a shame we didn't benefit from this game to make some separation on the Hawks. There is no way they win against Orlando Wednesday so we have to take care of the Nuggets at home!
Very good road-trip anyway. Just very disappointed by the bench. Davis had a good game once again but other than him... Quisy was OK in the end and Finley hit some shots. But overall I'm very disappointed by Nate. I thought he was supposed to be much "more of a scorer" than Eddie and yet he only makes 3's and when he (rarely) attempts a drive he never scores. I hope it changes soon!
-
The calls must have had doc & sloan ready to throw chairs. I didn't have a good feeling when the c's were up 7 or so at half and they had gotten (deserved or not) lots & lots of calls. You knew wwf oops I mean nba style the 2nd half the ref's calls would change. I feel deron williams , this year, is the best pg in the nba. This doesn't mean I think he can lower the shoulder/elbow and physically go through rondo.
I liked the game the jazz played and hope they can give lakers fits in playoffs, if okur shoots like that they look pretty good. I believe the celtics kept minutes down for everyone, again playoffs are the big picture. Davis looked really good 1st half as did robinson.
-
Rondo checked out mentally and was trying too hard to match Deron. Sheed was non-existent. Two biggest factor as to why we took the L.

I gotta agree. What jdpapa said is encouraging, but it looked like Utah was given too much time to shoot the 3's. I didn't like that. If it wasn't Okur, it was Miles. As I said in the chat, maybe the fact the Jazz had a big man in Okur who could shoot from long range put a bigger strain on our perimeter defense.
It sucked we lost this game, but it doesn't mean we took a step back, necessarily. However, we have to bring it against Denver on our court. Definitely.

Go look at the +/- for that game. You want to blame someon don't blame Rasheed. He was tied for the highest on the team with a positive 3. He blocked 3 shots and was playing hard defense while out there. Every single starter was double digit negatives. You are dead on with Rondo though. He looked like he was more interested in proving he was better than Williams than winning. What he proved is that he can't hold Williams' jock. Williams IMO is the best PG in the league. Rondo is tier 2 still until he gets a jumper and can hit a free throw. Oh, and keep his man in front of him.

Watching the game now on the noon replay, (CSNNE), and while we gave up a lot in the 3rd quarter, I see a lot more positive than negative. The 4th qtr is just starting, and while I know already that we lost this one, I'm really not that disappointed in what I've seen so far ... there have been WAY too many turnovers, but they're hustling and executing well. The Jazz are on fire ... gotta say seriously, Utah has some great fans ... that building is loud!
-
Man, I love Sheed when he works on the post, he could own this game if he stayed there more ... then I hate him when he settles for those horrible threes and doesn't play defense. Sheed could've been a major power in this league if he had set his mind to it, but he just doesn't seem to take it seriously, and gives around 60 to 70% most of the time.
-
Everything just went Utah's way in the second half ... including the officiating. Despite all the turnovers, we still played a decent game, and I'm not all that bummed about this loss. The Boyz are going to lose once-in-a-while, even when they're playing well. A lot of good to take away from this one. Doc should've gotten ejected a lot sooner ... it may have supplied the energy to turn the tide. Ed Malloy's a jerk. I'd give the C's a B- in this one ... Utah fans get an A. ;)
