Key Matchups
(http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/boston/KGBos.jpg)  vs  (http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/charlottebob/DiawCha.jpg)
KG has a height advantage over Diaw and so, if healthy, should be able to exploit this matchup.  However, Diaw is quick and so KG needs to be able to get back on defense of Diaw will make him pay.

(http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/boston/RondoBos.jpg)  vs  (http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/charlottebob/FeltonChar.jpg)
Rajon Rondo vs Raymond Felton
Rondo is playing for a big contract and needs to prove night in and night out that he is worth it.

Honorable Mention
Paul Pierce vs Gerald Wallace.
Wallace always seems to play his best games against the Celtics.  Pierce will have to step up his defense as Wallace is one of the main cogs of the Bobcats offense.

BOBCATS AND CELTICS CONNECTIONS:
· Celtics Head Coach Doc Rivers played for Bobcats Head Coach Larry Brown with the Clippers during the 1991-92 season. Celtics
forward Rasheed Wallace played for Brown in Detroit for part of the 2003-04 season and the 2004-05 season.
· Celtics guard Eddie House played 13 games for the Bobcats during the inaugural 2004-05 season.
· Bobcats guard Ronald “Flip” Murray and Celtics guard Ray Allen were teammates in Milwaukee and Seattle during the 2002-03 season
and in Seattle from 2003-06, where they also teamed with Bobcats forward Vladimir Radmanovic.
· Bobcats guard Raja Bell, Bobcats forward Boris Diaw and Celtics guard Eddie House were teammates in Phoenix in 2005-06.
· Bobcats center DeSagana Diop and Celtics guard Marquis Daniels were teammates in Dallas in 2005-06. Bobcats guard Stephen
Graham and Daniels were teammates in Indiana from 2007-09, where they were joined by Bobcats guard Ronald “Flip” Murray for part
of the 2007-08 season.
· Bobcats guard Ronald “Flip” Murray and Celtics forward Rasheed Wallace were teammates in Detroit for the 2006-07 season and part of
the 2007-08 season.
· Bobcats guard Stephen Graham and Celtics guard Tony Allen were college teammates at Oklahoma State University in 2003-04.
CAROLINAS CONNECTIONS:
· Celtics assistant coach Kevin Eastman served as the head coach at UNC- Wilmington (1990-94) and Belmont Abbey College (1986-89).
· Celtics forward Rasheed Wallace played collegiately at the University of North Carolina.
· Celtics center Sheldon Williams played collegiately at Duke University.
· Celtics guard Ray Allen attended Hillcrest High School in Dalzell, SC. Celtics forward Kevin Garnett hails from Mauldin, SC. Celtics
assistant coach Clifford Ray is a native of Union, SC.

Game Notes
The Bobcats are one of those young and athletic teams that always seem to give the Celtics problems. The Celtics have had to scrap out every win they have gotten against this team over the past two seasons.  Hopefully they will be able to set the tone early in this one and get an easy win.

The Celtics are playing in the second of back to back games after beating the Cavs in Cleveland in their first game of the season.  This is the Bobcats' first game of the season.  So, fatigue may be a problem especially for KG who is still working his way into game shape.

Keys to the Game
Start strong   The Celtics got off to a very slow start and were down 13-2 against the Cavs. It takes more out of them to have to play catch up and need to get off to a good start in this game.

Defense  Defense is going to be a key to every game this season and to winning  another championship.   They have said they want to be the best defensive team ever and will need to play better defense than we have seen so far if they want to accomplish that goal.

Limit turnovers  One of the Celtics flaws is still allowing too many turnovers.  They need to take better care of the ball and not give away as many possessions.

Bench play  Against the Cavs, the Celtics bench brought energy into the game when the starters seemed to be lacking it.  It was the bench that brought the Celtics back from the 14 point deficit to take the lead.   This bench is going to be crucial in a lot of games this season because they are deep and talented and should be able to take advantage of most of the other benches they face.

I wish we had wallace. He is the one guy on their team that I really really like. I still get puzzled every time I think about the Chandler for Okafor trade. What exactly did Charlotte get out of that? I think we win by about 15

End this one in 3 quarters, so our starters can have their nights end early. :)

Oh yeah..and I'm gonna need a stream for this...UGHHHHH.

I'm siked for this game, with our bench made up the way it is it makes it impossible for these teams to go on big runs against us.

Lets say the starters come out soft, and we're down by 10 or even less against a team like the Bobcats, or the Nets. The bench will be sitting down watching and looking at where they can attack. Quis will post up there weak 2nd year guard that they still have on him, Eddie house will be coming free on screens becuase the other teams rookie backup PG has never played NBA defense, and Sheed will just be laughing in the face of whoevers covering him.

THEN... the starters will get fired up by the bench's good play and they'll dominate.

You have Stephen Graham's picture up there but you have Raja Bell's name still listed as the starter at SG.

I think this should be an interesting game, they always give us a good one.  Although without Bell I'm really not very worried.

I want to see how their rookies, Henderson and Brown, play.

I'm officially ready to do this again. Hopefully we can come out stronger than last night and jump on top early. Get the lead with our starters then push it even further with Sheed and Daniels out there.

The Bobcats always give us a run for our money, but without Emeka this new rendition of the Bobcats, it'll be interesting to see if that trend continues.

The bottom line is; the Bobcats have ugly jerseys, so the Celtics win by 91.

Thanks for pointing that out,  I had Bell in the starting lineup first and then changed it and forgot to change the name.  It's fixed now.

I'm glad we upped our bench.  For some reason this team gives us fits and generally plays us very well.  I'm hoping switching Okafor for Chandler will reduce this and the fact that our team is much deeper.

Im kinda nervous of a let down game here.  We are playing an inferrior team, at home the night after a road game in Charlottes season opener.  I think they will be jacked up and we may be a little relaxed after last nights huge win.

Maybe that will keep their heads in tonights game, but I have my doubts. Especially considering how last season started off. A solid team win against the Cavs and then a unfocused loss to the Pacers.

It's not, they match up well with us. Gerald Wallace is always a pain for the C's. Though we'll see how their retooled line up does.

I think the Celts will come out strong and really beat up the Bobcats. The saw the Lakers get their rings last night and the Big 3 walked by with a disgusted look on their faces. Celts are going to tear it up right away. Yes the Bobcats do play us tough but if we come out fire look out cause this one could be over very very fast! To bad i will miss it because i will be working 5-10, thinking about DVR but idk its like i will know the score when i get home.. Wonder if it will be the same? Has anyone else done it? How is it?

It frees you up to focus on the little things happening on the court and not worry about the win (if they lose I just delete it).  Plus you can zip through commercials, halftime, timeouts, FTs, etc, and go through the game in 1:15 or so.  I'd recommend it.

If you can keep yourself from finding out the score I actually find DVR watching more enjoyable because you can fast forward through the time outs and stuff.

Tonight, it's really gonna hit me that I'm not living in Boston anymore.

Hope my father and his buddy enjoy my seats because I sure wish I could be there.

A bit of a concern for a letdown game tonight and our spotty track record against Charlotte.  However, after seeing our depth last night and knowing that they'll be a fired up home crowd behind them tonight, I think it'll be a game that we'll pull away in sometime late 3rd quarter or early fourth.

I also worry about some let down, but let's be honest.  We're better and deeper.  This is their first game whereas we now have some of the jitters worked out.  It we can just give them a steady dose of runs, they'll eventually concede.  If we allow them to hang in through 3 quarters, I worry about our starters having to play heavy minutes again.

I don't want a Ray Allen last second shot tonight, i want total dominance. The combination of a win last night, and an explosive performance tonight will really send the message that we're here.

My wish, exactly. TP to FL as usual, thanks for the game thread!

I won't watch the game this time - it's a given, I've slept only 2 and a half hours last night - but I hope I can catch a replay tomorrow. And hopefully the game won't be close. I'm hoping for a big blowout win which would allow our starters to get some rest, especially when you consider this is a back to back after an exhausting game in Cleveland.

The Bobcats are one tough competitor for Boston usually but I feel that our new bench will make the difference.

Let's go Celtics!

The Bobcats were a scary team during the Jason Richardson era (lol) but with Gerald Wallace and Ray Felton being their only real scoring options, I think we'll handle them easy tonight. Go C's!

I'll be excited seeing a well played game, taking none of it for granted, resulting in a win. The seeds of disappointment are sown with taking opponents lightly, by individual players, teams and or posters here  ;)

I really do, I suppose from having loved playing the game, have an appreciation for the journey as to how its done as much as the justified win(s) that should follow.

Aw heck, at the Garden in their season opener, this contest could very well be the first of many blowouts of the 09-10 Championship season, as we mostly expect  8)

Thanx FL for the efforts, TP

Reposting what I posted in the comments on the front page under the front page game preview:

pre-game notes from Doc From Doc:

Scal will dress tonight but will not be playing. He is progressing but is still not ready to play, which is unfortunate becuase this is a perfect matchup for Scal. Last night, the Celtics would have went with Shelden regardless because the Cavs are so big

Big Baby- still has not addressed the team but according to Doc, “plenty of time for that”. Baby is not at the game tonight. Doc said he was dissapointed in Baby’s mistake but says hes still part of the team. also noted that parents get dissapointed with their kids sometimes, but they’re still part of the family. Baby is still part of their family. Has no idea what Baby’s fine is, or if there was one. He said he is no part of that and hasn’t had time to even think about it.

Had good words for Shelden. Find the player in him that was there in college. Great opportunity on this team. Starting to understand what is needed of him. Terrific elbow shooter and rebounder. Needs to learn the Celtic scheme (needs to be more of a help defender instead of sticking on his man)

Lineup at the end of the game last night, according to Doc is the best lineup at that time. Unless he needs Perk for defensive purposes. Also noted a three big guards lineup.

A lot of respect for Larry Brown as a coach. Notes how much attention to detail he gives to the point guard position. For anybody who didn’t know, Doc played for Larry Brown for a short time. He said he opened his eyes to the little things at the guard position.

Rondo has his hands full tonight with Felton and Augustine. Two different types of guards. Rondo has established himself as a guard that opposing guards measure themselves to. He is no longer the guard measuring his ability to other guards.

Pregame was usual stuff except some cute stuff projected on the floor saying that they reloaded this summer and time to get back to business. Intros of the bench as they stood in line waiting for the starters intro.

Perk
Rondo
Ray
KG
Perk

Eddie and Paul roll the dice
Ubuntu
Paul's rah rah speech.

KG goes nuts.
Tip off.

Quick feed to Perk for a turnaround baby hook.
Wallace turnover
Tough KG turnaround while being hung on.
Stop
Shots and offensive rebounds by the C's to no avail.
Blocks
feed by Rondo for 2 to KG
Steal Rondo layup Timeout Charlotte.

I can't look at Vlad "space cadet" Rad without remembering how Pierce abused him in the finals.

The majority of players in the league have at some point in time abused Radmonovich.

Sweet, C's on track for an undefeated season, Cavs on track for a winless season.
I wouldn't count the Lebrons out just yet. They are playing the Raptors after all.

I saw a stat today on NBA TV about the Hornets.

Chris Paul averages 11 Assists a game
The Hornets as a whole average 17....

the other 11 people that can dress any given game combine for 6 assists a night... thats just HORRIBLE.

Bargs is KILLING the Cavs.

A preimeter big man who can shoot the long ball?

I sense a weakness the rest of the league has figured out lol.

I'm actually interested to see how the cavs do against teams like the bobcats who are young, dumb (basketball iq wise), and love to run.

I can actually see them having problems if they try to play shaq and Z together against a young, fast offensive team. Any long rebound/ turnover and the cavs will be playing 3 on 5.

Giddens must be in Doc's seriously deep doghouse if when Marquis and Pierce were in major foul trouble he could only muster 2 minutes and then the C's are blowing out a team by 30 entering the 4th and Doc would rather play Ray 40 minutes than Giddens even one.

To me that says more about how bad Rivers thinks Giddens is than it does that Rivers is hell bent on exhausting Ray in the first week of the season.

With the game being such a blow out, I don't get why Doc couldn't leave Giddens out there. It's as if he's trying to prove a point: practice hard and work on your game to get minutes. I'm all for that, but not when ray has to play that many minutes on a back to back!

JR's problems personified right their. Horrible shot because he's all jacked up and jumping around, then goes for a circus block and plows right through his man.

He just doesn't look under control when he gets into a game, he's always overcompensating, and it gets him in trouble.

Well, we can quibble about what's right and what's wrong, but Scal played pretty well last playoffs and I don't expect Doc to let Sheldon displace him on the depth chart unless he dramatically outplays Scal.

Plus, I think Scal is closer to Baby in terms of offensive game than Shelden.  It might be better for preparing the team for what's eventually going to happen come playoff time (when neither Scal nor Shelden is going to get off the bench).

Why the eye roll. He airballed the ball on an overshoot by a clear 18 inches then when flying out of control and picked up a foul and then had a stiff go by him for a layup like he wasn't even there.

His play this game has been beyond awful. And that's being objective. I have no anti-JR slant. Never have. I hate Tony Allen's game and JR makes Tony look really really good.

KG and Pierce are having a ball on the bench. More games like this please.

Don't think you want to discount the trap element here, either. Lots of reasons not to be focused - big statement win last night, the pagentry of opening night.

Got quite the opposite tonight. Really, really can't overstate the defensive effort these past two nights.

Nice dough-pop of the Bobkitties.

I think Williams is the BBD replacement we have been looking for.

Disagree. Williams has no offensive game.

And once Scal is back I expect him to be the 4th big, not Williams.

I hope not. I like that Sheldon works the boards. We don't need Scal and Sheed out beyond the 3 point line.

Agreed. I've been happy with what Williams brings to the floor inside. He's earning minutes, not losing them.

Wow.  Since when are the celtics so concerned about offense?  How about baby doesn't rebound well.  When you look at the fourth big on an NBA team, I would rather a player that rebounds and defends than someone with good offense (if you call an average jumper and good foot work good offense).

+1. We have enough scorers. Everyone can't be a gunner. We need role players on the 2nd unit and I would prefer a body that's going to bang, board, guard bigs and hustle. Sheed is already outside most of the time. If Shelly keeps playing the way he is, he's going to be hard to take out of the rotation.

TP here. I'm surprised by all the animosity toward Williams because he's doing EXACTLY what we're going to need from that spot in the rotation - defend like crazy, work hard and rebound. LOVED the pickup from the beginning, and I like it better now. Williams is earning minutes, not losing them. Sorry if that disappoints you.

Being there in person I couldn't believe how bad Charlotte was...the final score didn't even do it justice.  Until there was about 5-6 minutes left in the game, they had more turnovers than field goals made.  There was no semblance of an offense being run, which would explain the 59 points.

I think the point is that neither should be on the court for that length of time during a blowout of this magnitude.  Starters could have been on the bench with 3-4 minutes left in the 3rd.  Game was well out of reach for Charlotte at that point.

Just trying to keep my emotions in check.

I am finding it very easy to get carried away with this team after only two games.

They have the team, but we all know the journey is long and arduous.

After this start, if Rondo signs a long term extension, my Celtic life will reach an all time high since PP won the MVP in 2008 and Larry held up the trophy in 1984 & 1986.

I really, really like the heart of this team already.

Go the Green !!!!

Cheers

Aussie

Both should Avg. somewhere around 31 - 35 minutes a game this season and I don't care how they get there. Basketball players play basketball, it's what they do.

I agree about Ray's minutes, I kept wondering why Doc wasn't getting him out of the court when the game was already won in the 3rd and all the starters were resting on the bench... Don't know what Doc thought but I hope it won't happen again in such a blowout.

Great game, Celtics made many three's in the first half and went more in the paint in the second. Perk was phenomenal (4 blocs, and what blocks!), Rondo too (double double) and the starters were all good. Sheed was Ok but I would like to see him more in the post instead of just shooting threes. House made the job in the 4th and Marquis was OK (not good shooting, and bad fouls but good passes). 2-0, and Cleveland at 0-2 : great way to start the season and get some advance for the first spot in the East.

I love how Comcast doesn't edit their replays.

KG - "Get that [poop] outta here, [brotha!]"

Surprised the FCC hasn't killed KG yet haha

Yeah ... you noticed that, too ... and this is the 3rd time this game has aired! Standards are dropping, I'm afraid.

I'm fine with it, really. I think the FCC is far too uptight with what they allow on TV and what they don't. Words don't bother me, I could understand parents with small children, but then again they allow gore and blood on primetime.

It's an interesting world we live in.

Love that reverse slam by Perk ... finally getting up in the air ... sweet play, too - from Rondo to KG to Rondo to Perk ... love that stuff! That's what can happen when Rage is being aggressive and attacking!

Middle of the 3rd quarter and Rondo has twice as many assists as the entire Bobcat team!

I'd like to see him look for his shot more, but [dang] the 2 consecutive threes to Pierce then to Pierce again for the dunk.. That sequence was sick.

Perk is much more at ease this year, too ... not that deep scowl on his face all the time ... I think he's really matured over the summer, and losing weight was huge in his physical development ... he's moving his feet better, getting in the air more, getting more blocks on defense, passing better, and not needing to put the ball on the floor before laying it up every time.

I hope so ... I'm getting married soon! ;) (The first time was rather the opposite, haha). But Perk does seem to be loving it!

I'm acclimating her to it slowly, but she's at that point where the reality of it is sinking in ... statements like: "Wow ... you really DO love the Celtics, don't you?" and: "You and sports ... you're really addicted, huh?" ... but she says she wants to learn so she can enjoy it with me ... which would be great, but I think it's wishful thinking on her part. I give her credit for wanting to try, though ... and you never know ... she's filipina and basketball is huge over there! ;)

I always get the "Still on Celticsblog?" look from my girl, who might as well be the wifey haha.. I don't wanna say luckily, but.. well.. Luckily she's in school upstate and I get to watch the Celtics without complaints most nights = )

Watching the Celtics is a very sacred, personal time for me haha

I hear ya ... count your blessings. My fiance' knows it's part of the "package", so she's real good about it ... I just don't think she knew just how BIG a part of the package it was until now, haha. She's totally into movies, though, so all we need is two TV's ... and we'll both be happy at game time!

Even Eddie is looking great this year ... man, every game I see I'm just more and more excited about this season ... awesome team, the best since '86 I think.

Well, there was that immature stare down last night, but in his defense, Chandler was crying like a little child that needed an adult stare down.   ;)

Oh, I don't imagine for an instant that we've seen the last of that stuff, but he's definitely made steps in the right direction. Man -  summer of 2008 I was ready to get rid of him ... he's come a long way! I imagine he'll still be near the top of the "T" list, though! ;)

Gotta think that that T Perk got last night should be reversed though. He didn't say a thing. He just stared at Chandler and once again got a T for looking "mean" at a person. Where is Tim Donaghy doing color for TNT to explain this stuff to us anyway?

I also want to chime in to say that I freaking love this team. What a starting line up! What a bench! Looks like we have an all star team on the floor.

Gonna be a fun year! Go Celtics!!

Did anyone catch the comment Tommy made on T.Chandler?!?!?!
"He should have go to collage so he could learn to count to 3"
That was a harsh thing to say after Chandler got called for a offensive 3 seconds.

Not to mention his semi-shove of Gerald Wallace when he landed on the broadcast table.  ;D

That was great ... there was sweat all over Tommy's & Mike's table and papers, and Tommy's like: "Get me some towels!" ... he shoved him off the table like he was a leper, lol!
