Team Connections

Ben Gordon and Ray Allen are former UConn Huskies
Paul Pierce and Kirk Hinrich are former Kansas Jayhawks
Glen Davis and Tyrus Thomas were teammates at LSU
Mikki Moore, Brad Miller, and John Salmons were teammates in Sacramento

Key Matchups
(http://www.nba.com/media/act_rajon_rondo.jpg)vs(http://www.nba.com/media/act_derrick_rose.jpg)
Rajon Rondo PPG 11.9 RPG 5.20 APG 8.2 EFF + 18.84
Derrick Rose   PPG 16.8 RPG 3.90 APG 6.3 EFF + 17.10
The Bulls' #1 draft pick has been playing very well for them and is near the top of every rookie stat category.  In their first two meetings, they played fairly evenly.  In the first game, Rose had 18 points but just one assist while Rondo had 14 points and 6 assists.  In the second meeting, Rose had 14 points and 5 assists while Rondo scored just 4 points but had 15 assists.  Most importantly, the Celtics won both games.  In the third matchup between these teams, Rondo clearly had the edge with 26 points and 10 assists to just 11 points and 8 assists from Rose.  This is a matchup of two of the brightest young point guards in the league and it should be a fun one to watch.

Paul Pierce   PPG 20.5 RPG 5.60 APG 3.6 EFF + 19.17
John Salmons   PPG 18.3 RPG 4.20 APG 3.2 EFF + 16.89
It it isn't a coincidence that the Bulls have been on a roll since they made the trade for John Salmons.  He has been playing very well for them on both ends of the floor.  In the only game between these two teams that Salmons played in, he scored 38 points and led the Bulls to a win over the Celtics.  One of the keys to this series will be the matchup between these two players.

Honorable Mention
Ray Allen  PPG 18.2 RPG 3.50 APG 2.8 EFF + 16.77
Ben Gordon PPG 20.7 RPG 3.50 APG 3.4 EFF + 16.89
This will be a battle between two sharpshooters.  Both players are able to change the course of a game by hitting a volley of 3 point shots.  Ray will need to limit Gordon's shots while trying to get his own shots off effectively.

Worth Mentioning
(http://hoopshype.com/coaches/doc_rivers.jpg) vs (http://www.basket-stats.info/players/playerfile/d/images/vinny_del_negro.jpg)
Doc Rivers vs Vinny Del Negro
Doc has a big experience advantage over Del Negro who is in his first year of head coaching.  This could make a difference down the stretch in this series.

Game Notes
The Celtics game notes have Leon starting at power forward, but that could change by the time this game comes around.  Leon gives up height to Thomas but makes up for it in sheer determination and toughness.

The Celtics won the series 2-1 in the regular season.  The Bulls won their final meeting in Chicago, which was their only meeting after the Bulls brought in Salmons and Miller after the trade deadline.  The Bulls were 13-28 on the road in the regular season and so weren't a great road team.  But they were 14-2 at home after the All Star break so could be tough on their own court.

Defense is going to be the key in this series.  Chicago was 8-26 this season in games that they didn't reach 100 points.  This was the worst among all the playoff teams.  The Bulls aren't a really strong defensive team and depend on their scoring to win games.  When they are held to below 100 points, their chances of winning go way down.

Keys to the Game
Defense
Play Team Ball
Stay Focused
Limit Turnovers

X-Factor
Determination and Tougness
The Celtics received a big blow when they learned that KG wouldn't be back for this series.  But, they still have 2 future hall of famers and a very deep team. The Celtics are a very determined and tough team and if they play like they are capable of, they should win this game.

I'm really excited for this game.

I honestly think that the Bulls are headed into a buzz-saw.  I think the Cs are frantic to prove to everyone, perhaps themselves most of all, that they can battle through the no-Garnett thing.

Rajon Rondo
Stephon Marbury
Gabe Pruitt
Eddie House
Ray Allen
Tony Allen
Paul Pierce
Bill Walker
Leon Power
Glen Davis
Mikki Moore
Kendrick Perkins

Kevin Garnett is not walking through that door....

i'm perfectly fine with this team but in the early rounds we're going to need to give Walker and Pruitt some minutes and some trust, more so Walker than Pruitt becuase we have 6 Guards and only 1 legitimate small forward.

i'm just saying that we go in with 12 guys, then only 10 are capable of performing, then 3 out of those 10 are PG's.... we need to get some bodies in there. bodies that are over 6 foot one.

Not a huge fan of the 12:30 Saturday start but the playoffs are FINALLY here.  I love this time of the year.  Between the KG news and Danny's heart attack, there is going to be a lot of emotion in the Garden tomorrow.  I think that'll help the C's tremendously and I think they'll set the tone for the series in a big way.

I think Celtics take Game 1 by double digits.

I've got an itching feeling Powe is going to play his way off this team this post season...if anyone besides Pierce knows when it's time to step up, it's him. I won't be surprised, if he's  starting, to see 20/12 out of him.

Looking at all the match ups It's obvious to me that we are a better and deeper team. Adding to the mix the extra motivation after everything that happened yesterday and I think we will beat the Bulls in 5 games. Thanks FL for the preview and Go Celtics!

My +/- view:
- list:
no home court advantage
no kevin
Powe is a ?
cavs are better than last year

+ list:
Ray has integrated himself into the game, and people don't understand how important that is. If we had this Ray last year, ECF playoffs would be ridiculous
Big Baby can offensivly make up for KG, and has a great chance to prove himself
Rondo is more consistent
Eddie is just amazing, and might be our x-factor

All in all I' really confident about this team, guys have something to prove and I really think they can.
Go Celtics  ;)

I'm kind of with you guys. I'm at work right now in Sydney, Australia and it is 6:40 PM. The game doesn't start until 2:30 am tonight (sunday morning). It is not on TV and i don't own a computer. Pretty much my only option is to walk about 15-20 minutes to a 7/11 down the road which has internet access to watch the game and probably end up spending about 15 bucks jsut to use the interset for the whole game. This is probably what i am going to end up doing. Is there something serisouly wrong with me? I feel like I have a bad addiction

This will be more diifficult than most people think. The Bulls run and run and are taller, deeper, and faster at the bigs. They are exactly the type of team that gives us difficulty. They also have Ben Gordon and Brad Miller.

we're gonna have Bill Walker clothesline Derrick Rose to throw them off their game. So the matchups don't matter.

Refs for today's game:  Bennett Salvatore, Eddie F. Rush, Mike Smith

I am sure we cringe at the thought of that horrible foul that Bennett Salvatore called on Pierce last season.  Pierce was shooting a 3 and was fouled in the act and Salvatore called the offensive foul on Pierce.  Let's hope he got his vision checked since that call.

With David Stern set on a Kobe LeBron finals this season, I expect his minions to call game pretty one sided for the Bulls.  Celtics will have to keep their cools and just play though the bad calls (and non calls) that are certain to come.

:) The eyes of quiniela are upon the Celtics playoffs once again. Seems like this is a time honored tradition. Just two years ago we were pleading for Doc Rivers to be gone. Now we know that he is one of the best coaches out there (some debate that Tom Thibadeau might have had something to do with it.

A big key here is going to be the Ticket Stub, formally known as BBD. He will have to provide scoring, rebounding and defense. Also we need muscle and hustle from Kendrick Perkins and Leon Powe. Chicago has Joakim Noah and the Tyrus Virus along with Brad Miller. We need to win this matchup down low to win the series.

The Salmon-Pierce and the Uconn matchup (Ray vs Ben), plus the bright young PGs are the most visible matchups. Chicago is capable of matching our outside firepower.

Boston wants this game in the nineties and Chicago wants to light it up Phoenix like 115 or more.

The bench is decent for Chicago - Kirk Hinrich comes to mind here - got to guard him and chase him off the 3 point line. Boston will counter with Stephon, Mikki, Powe, Tony Allen, Eddie House. I doubt Walker or Pruitt see much action here this post season.

The Celtics need to close this out in Five Games and conserve energy. They cannot afford a pair of sevens and then face that Monster in Cleveland.

2. stop ben gordon...he is streaky and taking him out would be big
3. controlling rose...keep him out of the lane

You are gonna send out the Boomer Sooner wagon to poop on Bennett's sneakers aren't you, Bo? I was hoping for Mark Wonderlich, that kid who tossed out Doc in Chicago last month, and Violet Palmer to call todays game. I agree that Lebron has practically legalized traveling. And Kobe is the de facto Basketball commisioner west of the Mississippi Rivah.

Poop? Nah.

I was thinking of something a little more Draconian.

That call on Pierce in Game 6 remains the single worst call I've ever seen.

You roll out Violet and Wunderlich with Bennett and I'll just go outside and mow. I've had enough stress.

Why stop there, Stern?

Let's go with Bennett the Boob, LeBron James and Kobe Bryant to officiate.

Why not? James and Bryant officiate every game in which they play anyway.

So true.

That said, I am pledging that I will not blame the refs today.  If the Cs show up and are prepared to play, they should win even if it is 5 on 8.

Ball control, limit T.Os and stay outa foul trouble and the game win will follow.

Rondo must stay in front on D to quite that reachin in after getting beat.

Perk Must continue his recent steady play on D and remain on the floor!

I really do like the contribution by Steph and his continued ball handling, assist and shooting with the second unit.

Fun, fun, fun on the post season run for #18 , BY YOUR World Champion Boston Celtics ...

Go Celtics ~

Why am I not surprised? I wasn't expecting to see a decently called series this postseason and seeing Salvatore on the first day doesn't reassure me in the least.

from what ive seen so far, I am not confident at all in this series anymore.

All of a sudden we cant hit the broad side of a barn, the lineups are mysterious and the bulls are playing better and more confident then us....should there really be any question they tanked that last game in hopes to play the celtics? from there enthusiasm, they certainly look like theyre right where they wanted to be. The Magic would be blowing them out.

Hmm... so far feels like the end of the regular season games for the Cs.

Obviously. Same players, same team.

Haha, I was referring to attitude wise and the inability to put away lesser teams, but that works too.

Bulls however, look like they've realized it's the post season and have their energy levels up.

Bulls have been playing very well lately. I think the theory the C's were coasting and would step up in the playoffs was quite bizarre. I think their attitude is nice, they just need to play better, more intelligent ball.

That's a myth. That's why there's a strong correlation between how teams perform in reg. season and playoffs and point diff. is a good predictor of future playoff success.

unacceptable not hitting open shots is one thing sometimes they don't drop but you gotta start forcing the action and allowing lay ups all day is not a good way to make up for not hitting jumpers.

I think I want to vomit. This is atrocious ball we're playing :(

I'm definitely not one of those people who bail on the team the moment there's a little adversity, but this game is unfortunately confirming my suspicions that we don't have what it takes to even get beyond the Magic.

Despite how terribly we're playing, I still really really like our chances of beating the Bulls. But the Magic are a much better team than they get credit for... it wouldn't even surprise me that much if they beat Cleveland or even win the championship. Without KG, that series is looking a little bleak.

I think they'll be okay -- it just seems like they need to get their playoff legs under them.  (And maybe drink an espresso or two.)  It's a feeling-out period.  But Rondo, Perk and Powe are playing well -- you know Pierce and Ray will find a way to step up, and hopefully Doc will adjust the rotations as needed and Thibs will sort out the defensive problems.

What a stinker of a first half.  I normally hate booing a successful team, but this performance absolutely deserved it.

I still feel good though - as bad as we've played, we're still in it, and we've actually gotten some good shots that just won't drop.  If we can play D the way we did toward the end of the 1st, we'll be in good shape down the stretch.  If not, well...the wakeup call gets a lot louder.

The Celtics haven't been playing Celtics basketball.  They have more turnovers than assists.  They are not moving the ball.  Ray and PP are cold (2-11)  You know that they are going to heat up at some time.  They need to get it together at halftime and come out and play some team ball and team defense.  The 3rd quarter is ours.

I'm really unhappy with the boos which I hope was directed at the Bulls. Unless its a totally different crowd that cheered on Wednesday when Pierce asked for support in the playoffs.

Yeah the first half wasn't pretty but that's why there are 4 quarters. Maybe its just me but isn't cheering a comeback  more satisfying than prematurely booing and lowering the team's spirit?

Well, Garnett is on the floor (technically) so I'm here to say that when the team I love plays like that it makes me sick.  That final play where Perk and others stood and watched Miller just gather the rebound and put it back like we just wanted to go to the locker room and sulk makes me want to be buried alive.

Paul and Ray are still at home asleep physically and emotionally.  There IS no excuse. KG could have played 8 to 10 minutes in that half and it wouldn't matter.  Horrible.

more of David Sterns magic at work here.  Two afternoon games in the playoffs? Thats a slap in the face to this Celtics team if you ask me.  This is the playoffs we are the defending champs in one of the biggest markets in the country and were playing afternoon games.  No respect.  NBA is a business more than it is a sport and this is just another way Stern is making sure Boston stays away from those finals.  The finals is reserved for LeBron and Kobe this year I pity those who think it is not.

yall remember Wade as a rookie?  He was good during the regular season... but once he got to the playoffs everyone started going "wow"...

Nice to finally meet you, Rose.

Rose is ridiculously good for a rookie. Going to be a top 3 point guard in the league in 3 years.

Indeed, he is the real nightmarish deal...

Let's Go Celtis, give 'en *ell...

I love how the announcers make it clear that the celts got a call on the miss big baby dunk then when they clearly hit it out of bounds and then when rondo just got fouled they don't say a thing. Why can't we see the replay on those ones only on the ones that go the celts way so the announcers can say how the young lovably bulls are getting screwed.

Oh, shut the hell up about the refs already. This might be the best-called game of Bennett Salvatore's life. We're losing because we're sucking and Rose has been out of his mind, not because of the refs.

Mrs. Salvatore is that you?

if we're not gonna even go to Ray we should put in Tony for D and driving to the basket.

actually he spreads the floor so nevermind, its like the Randy Moss effect.

Why in the world is Powe coming out of the game?  He's playing well, dominating Noah, while Davis does not have a single defensive rebound in 31 minutes.

Yeah, I'd call it sucking compared to what this team is capable of. Ray Allen bricking everything? No ball movement? We're not dominating, I can tell you that much.

Joakim Noah is a walking hack machine.  Every single movement or motion of his body is a foul.  He fouled Perk 3 times there just by blinking.  How he lasts more than 3 minutes into any game is a mystery to me.

Blaming this loss on one person is crap. I told you guys before the series that without superlative defense the off-season is coming, and soon.

We aren't good enough defensively to overcome the loss of Garnett, apparently. Get used to it. It's a team loss.

Sadly, I agree with you 100 percent. How can the defending champion come out flat in its first playoff game. Inexcusable. No movement or passing on offense and then at the end of the game we went back to two yeara ago -- give the ball to Pierce and hope he makes a shot or gets fouled. Disgusted at the lack of emotion today. No excuse. Noah had 17 rebounds.

the lack of intensityin the first half told me all I need about this team. They coasted through the season adn think they can coast through the first round. I dont care if they win this series, they are mentaly over confident and think they dont have to bring it every play like last year. I'm ashamed and embarassed of them. I dont care how good the bulls have been playing, you dont lose to a seventh seed. I was hoping that I would see energy and swariminmg d, but what I saw was rondo playing well and the rest standing and playing like crap in the first half.

Right there need to wake up and focus on what just happened. If they don't win the next four games after such a embarrassing loss then Celtics have a tough road ahead of them.

Don't blame Ray Allen he just had a bad shooting night he will bounce back. Putting it all on him is insanity, the whole team just wasn't there tonight.

Also should add, Rondo's incredibly poor play on defense balanced his really good play on offense. Well, if they lose in the first round, the best thing will be the large credit I get toward my half-season tickets for next year!

we can beat them, how many nights will Ray Allen be 1-12. Tonight we should have put in TA or House at the 2. PP will come out with a vengeance in game 2.

i disagree...this team hasn't come out with  vengeance in a long long time....young athletic teams like the bulls are the worst match up for boston....if you can't come out ready to play at home and defend your title and drop your first home game...you are not going to win....this team cannot just flip the switch like a lot of people thought....the way they played down the stretch is really who they are....philly getting the 6 seed was the worst thing for boston...

so they win game 2...then go to chicago for 2...they need both games in chicago

Mikki Moore proved to all of us that he will be completely useless off the bench.

Bad rotation on defense, can't make a layup, foul prone, etc.

Marbury, not much better.

Then Ray has the worst game I've ever seen him have when we need him most.  I'm going to go smash something.

Bad game? Yeah.

You want to love up Rondo for getting absolutely lit up by Rose?

Plenty of blame to go around.

Been talking to you guys for awhile about the lack of effort, too. Remember the phrase, "You can't just flip a switch and turn it on?"

No one should be surprised here.

I agree, and I knew it all along that rose would be a seriously problem...so I wasnt suprised by it...I was suprised by Noah and Thomas playing career bastetball (unnacceptable) but I was mostly  suprised by the pathetic performance  by ray allen, it caught me completly off guard and it was seriously puke worthy.

I wonder where Jon Barry is taking Derek Rose out to dinner tonight since he couldn't stop talking about how much he loved him.

And why shouldn't Barry talk about Rose the way he did? The KID was the best player on tthe floor tonight. Thanks for reminding me about that and of  first half play. That summed up the effort and intensity of the Celtics today and they deserved to lose.

Amen.

That play summed up this pathetic effort.

Kudos to Rose for how he played on offense, but he and Rondo both acted like they had an agreement to just let the other guy go werever they wanted.

I'm not saying he shouldn't have talked about him. DRose played out of his mind today.  What bugged me was the way Barry talked about him.  I felt like we could all see Rose was playing great ball, we didn't need him reminding us.

boston going nowhere fast...hate to say it...not being pessimistic but this is no surprise by the way they played the last month...finally caught them today...we will see all we know come game 2...if boston struggles loses or  wins barely then it tells me that the end is near...if they come out and blow them out then there might be some hope....

without KG boston has trouble defending A PG or player that gets into the lane...we saw it with chalmers, LBJ, felton, wade and now rose....

but the offense today was some of the worst I have seen since the tank year...stand around while pierce goes one on 5 or settle for long jumpers...

The Bulls post player are way to athletic for Glen Davis to cover.  Sure he had 18 points today, but he had 3 rebounds in 40 minutes...Not saying Moore did anything great but he had 4 in 6 minutes and we all know he's a sub par rebounder.  That is a big reason why we lost this game.  We put all the rebounding duties to Perk and PP when he is in the game, and that is something that needs to be addressed or they will continue to lose the rebounding battle this series.

The Bulls beat us without Powe, Garnett, Allen and Scalabrine. Paul Pierce ended up playing center at the end of the game. And the Bulls still struggled at home to beat us by 6. The Celtics have a significant talent and experience advantage over the Bulls. The only way the series is a tossup is if the Celtics continue to play with a lack of intensity. In that case, they will lose the series in 6.

game 2 should always be the scariest game...you usually win game one and letdown in game 2...boston just isnt the same team...the bench is what we all thought before the season....the KG injury is a huge obstacle...we can't sugarcoat it anymore...can't make excuses...they are just not a strong team right now...they faked their way the last few weeks beating teams close in the end but they cant fake it anymore...

i for one felt the bulls were the WORST match up for boston they could have...today took a step toward proving that...they were destroyed on the glass by Noah (that is a joke)....let a rookie PG break them down over and over....and had no idea on offense...

One more observation...this whole year it seems we've struggled with consistently putting together runs with defensive stops tied to offensive finishes.  This happened all day today.

We'd get a stop, then a turnover.  We'd get a stop, don't secure the rebound.  We'd hit a big basket, give up a layup less than 5 seconds later.

This is a trend we've all seen this year that is now going to bite us in the butt if we don't get our act together.

Rose does not score 36 points if the defense is rotating and funnelling him into KG and Perk and their combined length.

they need to dump it inside for Perk more, he's the only one that can consistenly score one on one in the post, he scored good in the first half and had an awesome percentage, but they stopped giving it to him. Perks at a point in his career where he could go for 15+ consistently but he's just not getting the touches, without KG he NEEDS them.

I'm not underestimating the Bulls -- this Celtics team is not going to have any easy playoff rounds.  But I think there's a difference between respecting the Bulls and declaring that the season is over because of one game.  Even with Ray's putridity today, we would have won this game if we had made adjustments on defense and offense, and I think the team will see that when it watches the game film, and will hopefully come out playing not just with more effort, but also smarter the next game.

I totaly agree. It doesnt matter to me if they winf this series, they should not need a wake up call w/o kg. they should have come out a played tough d and lock thier guys down. But they came out lazy and allowed the bulls to make a game of it. I do believe they couyld have turned thier d on this post season. Offense is harder imo to flip the switch on, but these guys have been playing in this seystem loing enough that they should be able to swarm to the ball even w/o kg. This is what I got from the game.  Doc doesn't know what he is doing, and KG is not helping at all. Why couldn't KG sit on the bench for the 2nd half? How is him sitting out there a distraction and not a help for the team. The mysteriousness of KG is getting a little bit overboard and it is not helping us out lately. Doc made many mistakes in the game. In the 3rd Qtr., when the starters made a run to get us back in the game, he should have taken them all out with 3 minutes left and put in TA, House, Mikki, Star & Powe.  Just because the starters went on a nice run doesnt' mean they are going to keep going on a run, had Doc bought in all 5 subs, the subs could have gone on a run, too but Doc never does that. Late in the 4th while on defense Doc takes out Perkins and puts in Ray, leaving us with only BBD on the floor as a big, Rose takes it right to the hole and scores. That is ridiculous from Doc. If you want to put in Ray then sub him for BBD that was a horrible coaching move. Here is another note, when Brad Miller made that shot at the end of the half, the clock stopped moving and we never saw a replay of that play. That is not blaming the officiating its blaming the coverage of the game by not letting us know exactly what happened on that play, had the clock run regularly I don't know if the basket would have counted.  And finally you people are crazy to think BBD should be in the starting lineup. Mikki should start with Perkins, definitely. We need the length. Mikki is shooting 60% from the field this year and we need him to play with Perkins, but Doc doesn't know what he is doing and it probably will never happen so we won't win. Anybody who blames Mikki in this game doesn't know what they are talking about, he only played 6 minutes.  We will never win with Garnett out and BBD & Perk starting they are too small. Start Mikki.

You people are crazy thinking BBD with Perkins is enough height.  Not even close. With KG out Mikki has to play 30 minutes with Perkins. Don't understand why some of you are down on Mikki, he had 4 rebounds in 6 minutes he is a good defender. If Doc doesn't play Perk with Mikki 30 minutes a game no chance this year with KG out. Its so easy for me to see that yet nobody has even bought it up. Rondo, Ray & Pierce are a little small for their positions as well. We need Mikki out there like we had PJ out there with KG last year.  Doc has to wake up.

Coaching, bad game from ray are not to blame. Its lack of desire and defensive intensity that lost it for us. They lack dare I say it, heart. I dont care about 60 wins, I frankley think some have made too big of a deal about it. They compitition in the nba is not very good. To come out and play with no energy and overconfidence like this team did today says that there will be no miracle run this post season. I dont care about the athletisim of chicago, we have the better team on paper and if we played like we gave a [dang] in the first half we would have won this game.

They did come out with energy in the 3rd, but after the starters made the run to tie it, Doc left all of them out there for the entire 3rd QTR.  That never works in the NBA, he should have bought in all 5 subs at 4:00 left in the 3rd.

this team looked to me like a team that knows they dont have a shot today. I guess I overestimated them.

My point is it shouldn't have taken till the 3rd to get them going with energy. It should have been from the opening tip. They have looked lazy all season on d, I know they were 2nd, but they didn't play as good as they did last year.

Yeah but if they play Mikki with Perk then they have height

And so what? Moore can't block shots or rebound. His height is useless.

maybe they are just mentally worn out...after the long run last year....the defending of the title....the injuries...etc...they certainly looked confused and unfocused today...but to me monday is the season...lose that and it is over

I'm super positive for this team, and this could drive them into an over-acheiving mode, but if this team makes it to the ECF and gets defeated by Cleveland......

Think of how much experience Rondo and Perkins are getting for the future. Rondo was the best player on our team tonight and you could argue that he was just as effective as Rose becuase of his 0 TO's and the fact that he didn't foul out of the game. Rondo made his FT's he made his jump shots. We were saying that when the big three is gone RR will be "The guy" on this team, i'm saying that after this postseason (regardless of what happens) RR could be "The Guy" while the big three is still here.

And Perk is showing offensive gifts that i thought i'd never see out of him, with touches Perk could be a HUGE threat down low with his Hook shot his fade away where he turns to the middle.

I'm not looking past whats going on right now, but going into 09/10 the Boston Celtics starting 5 could be ridiculous.

Today didn't prove it, but yes I believe they do.

That may very well be.

But Mikki would foul out
in about 25 minutes...

This is what I got from the game.  Doc doesn't know what he is doing, and KG is not helping at all. Why couldn't KG sit on the bench for the 2nd half? How is him sitting out there a distraction and not a help for the team.

The Bulls were up 9 in the first half. They won by 2.

don't overreact BUT they have been playing this way for some time now...and according to PERK:

Following this afternoon's loss to the Chicago Bulls in Game 1 of a first-round playoff series, Celtics center Kendrick Perkins said his team did not bring the intensity necessary for a playoff game.

"Playing against a young team, the most important thing is that you've got to bring a lot of energy," said Perkins. "We're not just going to show up and beat teams."

pretty sad you cant bring it on day one of the playoffs at home

Yeah, especially considering Deng is also out for the Bulls. Boston is good enough to win it even after this loss, I still have the Bulls as the underdogs.

The media are all reporting how Rose has tied Kareem's first playoff game scoring record with 36 points...however, I could have sworn that when they showed the numbers of scoring records there was someone who played for the New Jersey Nets in 1970's who scored 39 in his first playoff appearance. Can someone back me up on this?

Kareem's is the rookie record. The 39 points must be from someone whose first playoffs weren't in his first year.
