Title: What's on your iPod?
Post by: nickagneta on July 29, 2008, 09:26:43 AM
SSF 2.0 asked in another thread and I didn't want to hijack it so I thought it might be a cool topic. Here's what dominates mine, in no particular preference:

AC/DC
Aerosmith
Akon
Green Day
Eminem
50 Cents
Kanye West
Daughtry
Disturbed
Neil Diamond
Dj Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince/Will Smith
George Thorogood
Justin Timberlake
Linkin Park
Metallica
Michael Jackson
Nickelback
Queen
Sean Kingston
Sean Paul
Dr. Dre and/or Snoop Dogg
Sublime
Usher
and of course all the most popular songs from the 80's hair bands and 90's rap.

Okay my taste is all over the place but I'm not exactly a kid anymore at 43.

Smithereens

Which Smithereens ablum? I loved their first 2 albums but I never listened to anything after that.

I was also a pretty hardcore Smiths fan and have all their stuff as well as Morrissey's.

My two favorite Smithereens' albums are Especially For You (first major label album) & 11 (third major label album.  They also just released a CD called Meet the Smithereens which is a song by song remake of the Beatles Meet the Beatles.  Pretty cool stuff.

BTW -- some great artists listed by everyone.  I love this stuff.

Jars of Clay

I was going to post something about this a while back.  Up until last NBA Season, Jars of Clay and a semi-popular song by the band Augustana were the only notable things to come from my college.  Then John Hammond was hired by the Milwaukee Bucks and he put Greenville College on the map!

MGMT
Vampire Weekend

I'll make it well known that I teach English to Korean middle school kids, and I've taught "Electric Feel" and "Wallcott" to uproarious success.  I will not allow KPop to defeat me, although I can't say anything against the K-Pop group Wonder Girls, but that has slightly less to do with music than...yeah they're just attractive is all.

I'll add to that information that I'm pretty sure of ricky_fan's 19 TPs, I'm probably responsible for 15.

In terms of number of songs, the heavy hitters are:

U2
The Dresden Dolls
The Dropkick Murphys
Tori Amos
Beastie Boys
Flogging Molly
Nirvana
The Pogues
R.E.M.
Eminem

There are tons of great singles that I listen to over and over, but off the top of my head, those are the most represented bands.

I was just on a plane trip, and decided to get through it by listening to my "top 25 played" (instead of the lovely child singing twinkle twinkle little star for 2 straight hours (I hate entitling parents btw)) and was a bit surprised at some of the stuff that popped up, not sure if it was because I recently updated, but there was def. a song I listened to maybe twice, but anyways here are my favorites despite what the ipod tells me:

7L and Esoteric
Apathy
De La Soul
David Allan Coe
Dwight Yoakam
Flogging Molly
G Love
Hank Williams III
John Prine
Johnny Cash
Kanye West
Michael Franti/Spearhead
Pavement/ Stephen Malkmus
The Pogues

Mostly just metal bands no one has ever heard of. The kids on my basketball team find it funny whenever I'm in the layup line with a ball in one hand and my ipod in the other blaring Suicide Silence or something like that.

I guess metal and  basketball don't mix?

Yeah, they're an incredible band, especially live.  Very odd, but also very clever lyrics.  Plus, I have a huge crush on Amanda, as strange of a girl as she is.
