Paul has a lot of miles on those legs, but he has played 402 games in the last 6 years (Thomas is at 433).  I don't think I'd want to give Paul a full 4 year max, but I might be open to that type of move if it was 2 or 3 year max and depending on what I could land for Thomas.
So a few problems with this. He also is getting injured in the playoffs.
He has missed playoffs games the last two years. It is tough to feel like you can complete the playoffs as a contender with him right now.

Thomas is also younger so the fact that he is already playing more games than Paul before Pauls age 33, 34, 35 seasons is particularly troubling.

It is an obvious concern, but I just think Paul's timeline fits better with Horford and the young guys, and Paul is still a significantly better defender than Thomas.  Obviously not the scorer, but Paul is a better overall offensive player (i.e. better shooter, better passer, etc.).  A lot of this would depend on whether Paul was willing to take less than 4 years and what Boston could get for Thomas, but I think it would be worth a phone call to Paul's agent.

Let's say the best offer the C's get is IT to Minnesota for Shabazz Muhammad and Gorgui Dieng.

What do you say, then, to the Chris Paul scenario?

This would never be your best offer. That is ridiculous. And if it was, you say no with 0 hesitation. I dont care if you have 9 point gaurds. You cant make this trade.

CP3--?

Why not also go after Chauncey Billups-?

No way Ainge does this--Heck, I don't even want that loser Blake Griffin.

Trade for PG13 or Butler on draft night---then try to sign Hayward or maybe even Millsap.

Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

lol I knew I this would happen.

I'm just giving a concrete example with which to play devil's advocate. I'm not advocating for the deal.

Doesn't make sense to me.  Not with the direction this team is headed.

CP3 ..is probably coming off the bench for the next Laker contender team......if he lasts that long .

He ll be 38 globing on like guys are doing for Team LeBron

I don't want the loser near the Celtics , other than  just their foot on his throat... ;D

Trading an All-NBA level PG for two mediocre rotation players is bad value. We'd be better off holding onto IT and cap space.

If we turned IT and cap space into CP3 and Jokic I'd be thrilled. I think Jokic is seen as untouchable right now, though.

Love me some Isaiah Thomas.

But if the Nuggets did that, you might as well have them start filing their paperwork to become the Las Vegas Nuggets  :P

Jokic is like one of their only bright spots right now in DEN.

I think of the only untradable players in this league... Jokic is one of them, and they are certainly not going to give him up for IT...

All-NBA PG?  Hyperbole, right?  I got Westbrook and Harden by a mile.
